The best rye bread anywhere. I used to eat this rye break when I lived in Williamsburg Brooklyn than I moved out of state. Twenty years later I still hop on the subway and pick up a couple of loafs. I live in New Jersey but work in Manhattan. Looked all over but could not find a a substitute. The price is awesome as well.

There is no way you can walk past this place and not be immediately drawn to the delicious fresh bakery smells that emanate from within. Sometimes, you’re drunk. Often, it’s 3am and you’re walking home from Williamsburg, starving to death. Should the irresistible aroma catch you, go the the back of the bakery(on Manhattan Ave). If you’re lucky, a Polish dude will sell you a football-sized loaf of fresh baked bread for 3 bucks cash. You will wake up on your crumby couch the next morning, covered in half eaten crusts.

Excellent, top quality bread. Flaky, crunchy, melts in your mouth. Very European and has the best bread I tasted in the United States. If you can’t get a loaf inside, try Sikorski’s meat market on Manhattan Ave between Nassau and Driggs: they get bread delivered fresh several times a day. You can easily get a warm loaf there.

I don’t normally eat bread, but when I walked by this place and smelled the fresh baked bread I was hooked! I’ve only ever had one loaf and was lucky enough to have it fresh from the bakery in Greenpoint. It was still steaming after we cracked open the loaf. The crust was just right — a bit crumbly but chewy and the inside was hot and warm. Probably the best loaf of bread I’ve ever had! Go and get some now! Mmm I want bread!
