SONASTY! Just got it delivered, took an hour n 20 mins, it was soggy and the guacamole was brown/black… I threw it in the trash NEVERAGAIN!

I don’t know what the hell is going on here, but it seems to be run by people recently ejected from a rehab center. The fish tacos are the only thing left on the menu that are worth ordering, and you better bring your patience with you.

DON’T EATHERE! My first experience: eat-in. Bad bad service. Bad food. My friend was 20 minutes late in meeting me there, it was pouring rain and the place was empty, and the watiress kept trying to move me to the bar. «Are you sure they’re coming?» What is this, an episode of Sex and the City where my date doesn’t show up and the bartender buys me a mojito and I cry alone into my drink? Nope… Then when my friend showed up the waitress, who had harrassed me at least 3 times about moving, was nowhere to be found. And the food sucked. Gross. Second experience: My work ordered a bunch of food from here, and EVERYONE good food poisoning. I work with 15 giant dudes in a shop and we only have two bathrooms. Do the math. Horrible. Calexico or Vamos al Tequila in Greenpoint or Dos Toros in Williamsburg are better bets. Avoid at all costs… unless you like spending lots of time with your toilet!

UNDERNEWMANAGEMENT, PRAISEJAH. No more narcissistic pictures of the owner and his buds on the wall. Food has been solid, Service has been good. The cash only thing is a bummer now, but I’m assuming because changing the terminals over takes some times when ownership has changed hands. Higher prices a draw back, but what can you do! Perfect timing, because this is a fantastic summer spot.

The average reviews list this place with 3 stars, and I couldn’t agree more. Whenever my family is in town, they want to come here and they love it, but it’s really just okay. The tacos, particularly the seitan one is really good and I do crave it pretty regularly, but besides that, I really don’t think Papacitos is worth all the rave. Get real Mexican food at New Mexico Place a few blocks away. Come here for some Mexican American vegan tacos.

Don’t waste your time with anything except the tacos. They are AWESOME!!! Tons of options from ground beef to spicy pork, to tempe and vegie options. 3 for 7 $ can’t be beat! Service is okay– they have interesting servers who work hard. Happy hour specials are legit. Good guac and salsa which cost a bit extra but each person at my table left paying less than $ 12.00 — Can’t say it again– TacoTastic!

Cody is Backkk and he is amazing. My friends brought me @ Papacito’s for dinner last night and I absolutely loved it. I had the fish taco and the steak and they were divine. Met Cody who is the owner and he is the most high spirited, energized person. I Highly recommend it to go for some authentic Mexican in Greenpoint

DO I LOVETHISPLACE or DO I LOVETHISPLACE? Only you, Papacito, can send this girl home with a full belly and a cheshire cat grin on her face! Burito with soyrizo and melty cheese all over it, chips and guac, roasted corn on the cob are just a few of the things I woof down at this place. Prices are sooo fair, staff is very sweet and friendly. Sometimes they forget to bring me my drinks, but I understand they get very busy, so it’s ok. Very hipster-y, i like the music they have on in the background and they have karaōke nights, yay!

I feel really guilty giving Papacitos a bad review. I remember opening day, I remember how delicious I thought the tacos were, I remember when they were robbed. I remember when they expanded into the Mexican grocery store next door, meaning we can’t get dried ancho and chipotle peppers in Greenpoint anymore. But after brunch my wife said, «are we getting old? That we get so disappointed? That we get so sad after a meal like that?» Maybe we’re getting old. We’re all getting to old. And so is Papacitos. Old and cold. Maybe the rent is too high nowadays, and they have to skimp on things like cooks and ingredients. We ordered two brunch dishes, and they came out cold. The poached eggs were pretty much hard boiled on both dishes. The hash browns were not only cold, but a good half of them were semi-raw potato cubes. The greasy split chorizo tasted of flab and regret. What am I gonna do, send it back? Our waiters were great(we had about three) and kind and smiley, it’s not their fault the guy in the back is hungover and just throwing cold raw potato cubes on plates and letting the poached eggs turn to rocks. It’s not their fault the owner has to pay ever-increasing rent and decided not to spend on a plate warmer, so the dishes come out on cold slabs. Of course we ate most of it, we’re not going to do a silent protest. Look, Papacitos. You’re serving stuff for brunch that would get sent back if I served it at my own HOME. Just put a little more care into it. Maybe hire a second cook. Get a better salamander. Anything. We need you in this neighborhood, and you’re resting on shabby laurels.

What the hell is up with this place? You take away the Yucca fries which were the best ever. Your staff is horrendously slow and always forgets something. Always. Its a good thing the food is good. My husband always begs me to come here whenever we’re in the neighborhood. Only if we have 2 hours to spare. Bleh.

I wish I could give this place 0 stars. My first experience with this place back in 2011 was great. It was my first day in the US and I happened to be staying pretty close to Papacitos so I ended up going like 3 times in 5 days and left wanting more, the food was great every time. After moving to the US this year, I wanted to repeat the experience, but I was left extremely disappointed. Service was TERRIBLE. The worst I have ever experienced. After living for the biggest part of my life in Barcelona, Spain, that’s saying a lot. If you’ve been to Barcelona or most places in Spain for that matter you know what I’m talking about. We were seated quickly but I was never served water. I asked for it twice and eventually had to go to the bar to get it. This was on a super hot day in summer. I don’t even wanna think about again, it was that bad. The waiter took our order –mentally– after 15 minutes of us being there. I was disappointed to find out that their menu had changed a lot from the previous year but I was still hopeful about the food at this point. Then she came back about 25 minutes later(still no water for me, but my husband had gotten his beer) asking us if we could repeat the order. WTF?! By this point I was starving and dehydrated. I should also mention that they were only serving 2 other tables at this time of the day so it’s not like they were overwhelmed with work. We waited for like 30 minutes for our food except when it came it wasn’t what we had ordered at all… So they took it back and we had to wait another good 40 minutes to prepare our order(just a couple of seitan burritos). What should have been a quick, nice meal, turned into an over 2 hour long nightmare. Then the waitress had the nerve to give us a mean look after I only tipped 10%. Looking back I shouldn’t have tipped anything, or even better, leave after the first hour with no food in my table.

I previously wrote a tip on how we kept having miscommunication with Papacitos about when they would say when they were open when in fact they were not. Since then we went there directly to be told they were closed again after we had called them earlier to find out how late they’d be open. –But this time we discussed our disappointment with their hours and mis-info in the flesh. They explained how business slows down sometimes and they have to close early. This we can totally understand. They were very apologetic & accommodating to the situation. They were still preparing food«to go» but they let us have dinner at the bar to make up for things and treated us to drinks on the house. It smoothed over everything! Plus our waiter Tom and bartender Ryan were awesome guys who did a wonderful job. We love coming to Papacitos and always breaks our hearts when they’re not open. The staff has always been accommodating and good to us on our numerous visits. Sure it has its off nights, but what place doesn’t? We always look forward to coming back, more so now than ever. Thanks guys for taking care of us!

You know how they say 10 people can see the same fight and if you ask all 10 of them what went down they’ll give you 10 different responses? That’s how I feel about Papacito’s reviews. I’m really thankful I didn’t read them before eating here, because I tore the fucking shit out of their tacos. New Yorkers and LA natives are really fucking picky about their Mexican, experts in fact is what they will tell you. First off. As a native New Yorker and lover of all things Mexican I would like to officially tell everyone that has moved to my city from LA to kindly stfu. Unless you actually hail from the country of Mexico, imma need you to step the fuck off your pillar of Mexican knowledge. I’m guessing that someone who moves from Mexico to LA and opens up a taco truck or stand or restaurant is equal to someone else who instead chooses to immigrate to New York. The best Mexican chefs aren’t all just flocking to LA. #getoveryourcity Now. Sometimes. Even though I don’t like to admit it, Unilocal lies a bit. You have to learn how to read reviews properly. Utilize context clues. You know, get a little Sherlock Holmes in this bitch. And then go on your merry eating way. Regardless of food, if you live in this area Papa’s backyard deserves a holla. Grab some $ 2 dollar late night Tecate’s and just hang the fuck out. But when the smell of Mexican food is in the air I can’t simply sit back and enjoy a cold one. Jessie or as I like to call him Dusty is the best. Period. Secondly. My tacos were delicious. Chorizo. Steak. Ground beef. You can skip the ground beef. Also note that these tacos are like fucking cruise ships. I can usually, easily destroy 3 tacos. Not the case here. One star off for the margarita. We got a pitcher so maybe the alcohol was distributed to some other lucky bastard at my table but my glass was weak sauce. Bottom line if you’re in Greenpoint and want an awesome backyard space to kick back with a bunch of friends. This is for you. If you’re from LA and gonna be all LA about shit. Go back.

3 out of 5 times we order take out it’s wrong. These are items that cost money that they’re leaving out of the order, and things that they charge extra for that they don’t include. The staff will not help you in the slightest when this happens, their response is that of a deer in the headlights and they can never actually seem to find the manager when they need him. They’ll shrug your problems off. The last time they screwed up(100% completely wrong, nothing even remotely close to our order) the guy’s response was ‘it’s all the same really, it’s not much of a big deal’. Tell that to a vegan when you accidentally give them a chorizo burrito, ‘Oh just eat it it’s all the same’.

Great service, tasty guac, strong margaritas(with a cheap happy hour until 7), and tons of vegetarian options(seitan, fresh veggies, and more). I love Papacito’s enough to take the G train. The G train!

Sat in the big open backyard with the really cool mural. We had a few different servers stop by and they were all so nice. The traditional margarita was good and the ginger pineapple margarita was interesting for sure. Subtle ginger and pineapple… not sure how well it works in a margarita but it was not bad. Drinks are good but could stand to be a little bigger. Loved the food though! The fried avocado was great and I LOVED my fish tacos. Loved the red cabbage and white sauce that came on them. My friend’s chorizo quesadilla was excellent too. I’d be here all the time if I lived closer!

It’s Saturday afternoon. I just finished my gig at Hollywood Stunts and I’m looking for a food fix. I head down Manhattan Ave. «How odd,» I thought, «everyone here is wearing my grandmother’s clothes. Must be a great restaurant.» The hostess(who has braces and is wearing a wife beater with shorts up to her neck) asks what we want. We say a table, and she points to one right in front of her. Job well done. Drinks, chips, and guacamole are brought out. They are gone in 5 minutes. As are the replacements. I start snorting avocado. A guy outside the window has rolled three joints since we sat down. He is wearing a leather hat and has a pencil mustache like the two weightlifters on Family Guy. I order the chicken chimichanga burrito. As the waitress is about to leave, I call her back — let’s make it wet. Food comes in fifteen minutes. The chicken is fresh grilled. The beans and rice are divine. A geyser of cheese is erupting from the center of the plate. I eat the whole thing. It’s over a pound. I inform my friends that they have 10 minutes to find me a couch or a hospital. Lunch was under $ 50 for three people with drinks. We go outside. A 65 year old man is walking down the street. He’s holding a baby by its legs over his shoulder like it’s the toddler equivalent of a sack of grain. This is Greenpoint.

I was very excited to try Papacito’s because my friend kept raving about it. When I got there, our waitress was a bit slow with our orders and wasn’t very kind. I ordered 3 Fish Tacos(3 forr $ 7) and it wasn’t all that. They’re small and the meal itself didn’t taste very hot or even warm for that matter. I had a really bad stomach ache later on in our night. The Burrito Grande was okay but. I’ve seen and had better. My main problem with the food here, it just doesn’t taste hot. Everything taste cold or perhaps even nuked just for a few seconds. As for drinks, I ordered two margaritas. A Papacito($ 8), which has pink grapefruit, jalapeño & lime juices and a Gatacita($ 9), jalapeño & ginger-pineapple syrups. The drinks were pretty tasty but there was too much ice and the glass size is way too small so just imagine small cup and lots of ice. Verdict — Skip it. There are other better Mexican restaurants than Papacito’s. This place is for hipsters with no taste.
