Pips is a throw back to a by gone era of Williamsburg when cool shit would happen independent of someone trying to make a profit. Ping Pong, beer, good people… Simple and pure. Thank you to those responsible for opening and keeping this place open. You are a credit to the neighborhood.

This place is great if you’re into recreational ping pong with friends. It used to be $ 5/person for unlimited play, but now it’s $ 10. I think you should price it at $ 5 per person, per hour. That way, you keep people moving in and out. $ 10 is a little expensive since whenever I come, it’s for 45 minutes, an hour, at most. Maybe too many cats spend a long time in there. I think Brooklyn needs more places like PIPS, because we love ping pong and there should be a little competition to keep prices reasonable.

Pretty fun establishment. There are ping-pong tables, artwork, drinks, sofas, it a lot of fun to be had. I would definitely try to come back.

I love this place! Cheaper beer and $ 10 to play as long as you would like. The patrons are pretty chill and it is more than okay to come solo and figure out some pick up games. I give them three stars just because of the typical Williamsburg service. The blonde behind the bar has the worst attitude-but hey-that’s Williamsburg for you. Great place to mix things up and play some ping pong, just don’t expect exceptional service

Just checked this out looking for place to play in the area. It’s not as awesome of a deal as others have described; as the donation model wasn’t working for them, It’s now $ 10 to play per visit, unlimited time — still pretty good given the other options available. The skill level of the players is all over the place, though.

I stumbled upon this place while walking around with my boyfriend. We walked in to see what its about. For 10 buks a person you can play ping pong for how ever long you want. My boyfriend and I stayed for about an hour and a half and had a blast. The space is also an art gallery with really funky stuff on the wall. I wish there was a bar here. I’d definitely come at night with all my friends. All in all. Its a great way to spend a couple hours.

Being Asian, I’m naturally good at ping pong and seek every opportunity possible to showcase my mastery of it. JUSTKIDDING! I actually don’t remember the last time I played ping pong before I played at PIPS, but I can guarantee it was not by choice(e.g. peer pressured into it, extra-curricular activity in elementary school, etc). We came across this place one Friday evening(okay fine, the boyfriend found this place. I was just tagging along, pretending it was also my idea). Although it’s also an art space/gallery of sorts, PIPS is predominantly a ping pong spot(they have 3 tables). There are also a couple of couches where you can hang out while you’re waiting for a table. The guy manning the front desk was super friendly and very excited about ping pong. You pay $ 5 to rent a paddle, put your name on the board to ‘reserve’ the next available table, and pick up one of the many stray balls around when it’s your turn to play… And it’s donation-based otherwise. They have beer, soda, and candy that you can purchase at a very reasonable price(I’m not sure why I needed to point that out, as if I was expecting eye-gouging prices like at the movie theater). It was pretty busy when we were there, but we didn’t have to wait too long. The crowd was interesting; they were clearly serious about their game but were also friendly enough to simply laugh it off when I sent ping pong balls flying halfway across the room, two tables over(repeatedly). We also didn’t feel like we needed to leave the table promptly(I suck at this game despite my heritage, so it would’ve been a very quick game if we had stuck to the general rules and scoring system). We played a couple games and didn’t stick around very long, but it was a fun, super budget-friendly night out and a refreshing alternative to the typical bar scene.

Great place to chill and hangout for free. Ambiance here is awesome, chill music, laid-back people, and spacious basement area atmosphere. As mentioned before by other reviewers, $ 5 to rent a paddle and balls are given. You can bring your own paddle. Play cost is by donations. Donation-wise I give them $ 5 since I bring my own paddle and the people are so cool and nice they deserve some love. At night, it gets lively quick with people watching and players who are anticipating to play some ping pong on the list of order by the chalkboard. If you’re the shy type or the type who plays with little people around, I recommend playing during the daytime.

Finally got to checkout PIPS! It’s a fun art space that has 3 ping pong tables, dj spinning, and sells beer. Paddles can be rented for $ 5 each and play time is unlimited. However, if it gets busy, you can be requested to give up your table. Luckily for my friends and I, the tables were empty which allowed us an hour of undisturbed playtime. P. S. play cost is by donation.

I love this place! Four of us finished dinner early at Miller’s Tavern across the street and decided to stop by PIPS for some ping pong. The best part is that they take card AND they email you your receipt! It’s $ 5 to rent a paddle and playing time is by donation. You can stay as long as you want and they won’t tell you to leave. There’s 3 ping pong tables with plenty of ping pong balls to go around. They have little cubbies to put your belongings while you play. They also sell three types of beer and soft drinks — which you will definitely need because playing ping pong can work up quite a sweat! But definitely come early because it does get busy once it gets dark.

This is a good spot to go to in Williamsburg, RIGHT near the L train. Table Tennis and Art space worth checking out. You make a donation, rent the paddle for $ 5(set price), get a couple of Tiger Beers, maybe a kit kat candy or snickers with another donation then enjoy playing at the tables. I only played for about an hour but I was there on a thursday watching the Knicks game on the tv there. Everything here was nice, I must admit. I want to come back soon, I had a good time checking it out.

Art-space-cum-ping-pong competition hall — now this is my kind of place! And exactly the kind of set-up I dreamed of finding in hip yet relaxed Williamsburg. It’s a pretty simple arrangement: an art-space funded by turns at one of the three ping pong tables taking centre stage. In true art-hipster fashion, though paddle hire is fixed at $ 5, playing time is on a donation basis, and in the words of the attendant, «you can play all night for that if you want to.» Wow. In theory you play by putting your name on the blackboard next to each table and playing the winner of the game in question. In practice, as there were only a further four people there, I ended up playing for a couple of hours with the very friendly person staffing the desk. The standard of playing varies, but it can be surprisingly high: two of the three tables have quite of bit of space around them, allowing for much scampering and full-expression smashing from dedicated players. On the walls, next to the art canvases, are photos of past winners of competitions held here. Playing is governed by 10 «commandments», most of which are serious, but I was amused by the 10th one, stating that though«hustlers» were welcome, «bad losers» were not. Cheap, arty, and with plenty of friendly people around: I had a great time here.

Pips is a great community. I love how this place is donation based and there is no barrier to improving your game here. Yes, the space is small and there are only three tables, but I still like playing at Pips tournaments more than at SPiN’s Monday tournaments because you get to play more.

For someone like me, who grew up with a ping pong table in their basement and can’t afford/don’t have the space for one in their NYC apartment now, PIPS is a godsend. Unlike the Fat Cat, you are not billed for the amount of time you’ve spent having fun. Also, you don’t have to wait 45 minutes to play in an uncomfortably crowded basement. You just walk in, pick up a paddle and start playing a friend, or a stranger. It’s donation-based, so whatever amount you have/feel is appropriate is appreciated. Every worker I’ve interacted with has been super friendly. They have beer, soda, water bottles, etc. If you’re lucky, you’ll see some eye candy. What’s hotter than a guy who is truly passionate about ping pong and is drenched in sweat? I’m sure all of you ping pong loving ladies can appreciate that. Oh, they offer private lessons too!

Sometimes you just NEED to play some ping-pong and during one of these episodes, my sister and I just happened to stumble upon Pips in a seriously serendipitous way. We were truly amazed to find a space that is a donation-based art space /ping pong space where you can enjoy a beer or a coconut water, tunes and some terrific table tennis. We were a bit hesitant to enter at first, nervous that we’d be among professionals with little patience for us, but there were these really great signs posted right on the door specifically saying that Pips is a friendly space for all levels – and they were absolutely accurate. We had a blast and will definitely be back for more!

A random spot where you can play ping pong and have some drinks to donate to an organization or get hook ups due to whoever is hosting that night. I liked how it was walking distance after a Unilocal event to check out!

So, this place is really an oddball, and I’m not sure what to make of it. It is a ping-pong space… sort of like a pool hall for ping-pong, but it is a nonprofit and also an art gallery. You can drink a beer for a dollar donation. I am terrible at ping pong, so not exactly my scene, but my friend loves it, and the folks seemed nice.
