NYC is home of the«corner store» thus, needless to say, there are a million on every block lol. However, I am still picky with where I buy snacks from and especially food. My boyfriend told me this place is the joint for bodega sandwiches so I gave it a try and now I am hooked. I usually order the«Mike’s» tuna sandwich on wheat w. added pickles and it is sooo good. The place is clean, the staff is nice, and the vibe is pretty upbeat. I wish their chips selection was bigger and cheaper though, because all I saw was kettle chips and big wise brands which I like but umm… sometimes I just want a bag of 50 cent ridges so I can move on with my life. I went next door to the less expensive corner store for that instead but anyway, great place for inexpensive sammiches y’all.

Love this place. Great selection of food/beverages. People are really friendly. Cheap, good coffee too.

I used to love this place — great selection of snacks, friendly employees. But over the past two years I stopped going because the bulk food items started to taste a bit stale. I went back today and got two different items. Both totally stale, to the point of being inedible. It’s a real shame, but also an outrage. Just because we don’t live in Manhattan doesn’t mean it’s okay to sell us stale food. Pull that **** from the shelves when it gets old.

This place goes by a few names, Kings Candy & Nuts or as my wife and I call it, «the fruit and nut guy» but regardless, they have the best selection of dried fruits and nuts around. The dried strawberries, when in season, are my new addiction. I have never even seen dried strawberries before, but here you can buy them by the pound! They also serve Hershey’s ice cream, baked goods such as baklava, chips, and have eggs and milk in the fridge.

What a fantastic place! The product selection is so unique and blends canned imports and bulk nuts/sweets with health foods and treats. The couple that often works there are the sweetest people, and I love visiting them when I get off the train. The older gentleman is a light in this world, he is a gem. I am a big fan of this store, and I’m glad they have joined the neighborhood. Check them out!

I figured since I was declared the«duchess» of this fine establishment, I should honor my subjects with a brief yet informative review. This store carries treats. Good treats. Even good-for-you treats. They also have some regular convience store/grocery items. Other reviews have talked about this though. I want to talk a little about the treats. There is a wide array of candy and nuts(go figure!), which seem to be replenished often. They have a chocolate section which is next to the nuts and fruit, and they also have candy like gummy everything and a few international items. They have a great selection of dried fruit. Their dried peaches are amazing. I used to buy the dried white peaches at Trader Joe’s — never again. They were flavorless by comparison to the fresh and tasty peaches here. I am craving some now. The staff here are very nice — the man behind the counter is super-friendly. If you find yourself in the neighborhood, stop by this place and at the very least buy some dried peaches. **To note as another Unilocaler did, this place is not called«King’s Candy and Nuts» on its signage. You’ll recognize it all the same though, seeing the bins of by-the-pound nuts and fruit lining the left wall.

There are two supermarkets within a two-minute walk of this place, but neither of them has a good selection of nuts, so I always find myself coming here, and it’s always a real pleasure. They’ve got what I need at a reasonable price, and they seem to have a good stream of business, so the nuts I’ve gotten have always been good and fresh. Nuts are all I’ve ever gotten here, and frankly it’s all I’ll ever need, but it’s good to know I can get a hunk of cheese too, if I happen to need it.

Every so often a store opens in your neighborhood and you say«how did we get by without them?» King’s is one of those stores! Located seconds from this B/Q train stop in an easy to miss location on the Newkirk Plaza between a shoe store and a nail salon, this small but very well laid out and spotlessly clean store offers coffee and teas, fresh American and Turkish bakery goods and breads, organic milk(including soy, rice and almond) and eggs, dried fruits, nuts, cookies, candy(Godiva, Lindt, Perugina), cheeses, halal meats and international foods at some of the lowest prices in the city! Especially delicious is their fresh baklava which goes very well with the Green Mountain coffee they sell by the cup and the Turkish boreks which come in daily in cheese, meat, potato and spinach. Also very impressive is the staff who are helpful, polite, patient and really seem to have an interest in carrying what their customers want at prices they can afford! Update 4÷15÷11: The original guys who worked at Kings bought their own store and their partner now runs the store and has renamed it Plaza Gourmet. The new help has limited English skills and does not understand the American market as well as the two original guys. They are very nice but the store has lost a bit of its special appeal. One nice addition, however, has been Hershey’s Ice cream cups and cones. Another update: Oct 20, 2011: There was a new owner named Abdul at Plaza Gourmet this week. He is very nice and was today repairing the floor and has a genuine interest in seeing the store continue to grow — I was impressed! The store looked very clean and well organized. I wish him all the best! Oh by the way he is friends with Kobir and Rahman who owned the store when it was King Candy & Nut… another good omen! Dec. 2012: Unfortunately after I wrote my 2011 update, the store began a gradual decline as the owner was apparently preoccupied with other matters. Well recently the store was again sold and now dba’s as Plaza Gormet Foods. The new owners have not only cleaned up the store but added new items and made the store the nicest it has ever been! Sept. 2015: Yet another new owner and my first impression is that they are going to be great. They are friendly, hardworking and listening to what their customers would like to see. Time will tell, but I have a feeling that this store is going to get to the next level!

This place is an excellent addition to the neighborhood. A large selection of nuts, candy, and dried fruits at very reasonable prices. The Green Mountain coffee is only $ 1 for a cup(!), and the baklava is incredible. Organic milk and eggs, and(I think) some halal meat selection. Cheap dark chocolate by the pound, European biscuits and Nutella, buckwheat pancake mix — these guys are open to suggestions and conveniently located right above the Newkirk Ave. BQ trains. Very sweet.
