It’s all about the Roti! Chicken curry and shrimp Roti are absolutely delicious and our favorites at this place. The Roti is freshly cooked so if you don’t want to wait fifteen minutes I recommend calling and ordering ahead of time so your order’s ready for pickup. If you get the curry chicken Roti be careful of the bones. Shayna’s is a small hole in the wall corner store, it’s basic and the food is well made, full of flavor and simply excellent. I usually grab a couple to go and am completely satisfied after every bite. A local favorite.

Stopped in randomly to grab some take-out before a show at the Kings Theater, and got possibly the best Roti I’ve ever had in Brooklyn. The only bad thing was having to eat it in such a hurry. Will definitely be back.

Best Trinidadian food in the area, if not many areas. Shayna is a very friendly, generous, person, and always greets me with a smile and warmth. The roti is insanely tasty. Best I’ve had. I prefer the shrimp roti, but the curry chicken is also delicious(just careful of the bones). The curry chicken over rice is also great, and a ton of food for the price. It’s a very bare-bones place, but the food and the vibe are great.

So good! And such a bargain! We came for roti and curry. We wanted the bust up shirt roti, but they only had puri. So the owner told us if we could wait 10 minutes, she’d make us fresh bust up shirt roti! Yum! She was so friendly and accommodating! The curry was great too(we had both chicken and veggie,) and the sorrel wasn’t too sweet. The other reviews made the place sound like a hole in the wall, but it’s fine. It’s definitely no frills and simple, but it’s clean. There is a very small seating area — just a counter with maybe 6 or 8 seats. I’d recommend this place in a heartbeat if you are looking for good West Indian food.

The best roti we had in a long time. This place is best for takeout, only has a few stools at the counter but the food was terrific. The roti skin was nice and light, some places have a ton of dried peas in it, not here. We got the curry chicken and the curry goat, huge pieces of meat and a few nice potatoes. We also got the doubles, fresh tasting with a little bit of sweetness. The people running the place are the nicest and genuinely pleasant. We’ll definitely be back for more.

I was hungry so I checked on Unilocal for Restaurant for good food around the area and found one with good reviews. Arrived, I noticed the store is closed permanently. While sitting in my car, I scan around and notice there was a Thai restaurant, decently upscaled type and there was a parking spot. So I parked and got off thinking of heading over to Thai. While walking to the Rest., I looked around and notice far across the street, located on the corner next block is a store sign named West Indian. Probably is my first time, I didn’t realize they don’t serve food container on Roti. When looking back at the menu the next day have I noticed the Meat and Rice probably serve with a plate or container. The Curry Goat was wrapped with Roti, Roti wrapped with aluminum foil, served with one utensil. At first, I said to myself… hmm??? Could this be a mistake? It was too late to go back because I drove far from the restaurant already, to ask why it was not served with a container. Eating take some special skills without a plate or container trying to de-bone the goat with my strong teeth while forking the roti apart while trying not to poke a hole through the aluminum foil to avoid leakage, potentially sip into my pant, ruin my pant. I’ve quite not master yet. Probably a few more times of practicing I’m going to get good at it. For that time, I ate slow, I avoided being messy, avoided grease ruin my pant, when I was sitting in my car using my two legs as a table to hold up the food. It was a challenge chewing and de-boning the goat meat and holding the food together with my two thighs. The food is good, I can’t complaint, the quality of the food is good. It was delicious.

Wonderful food, owner and the local must have. I wish I have this in my hood. Their oxtail and chicken dish is a must try here in the Roti preferred. The owners are really nice and please converse with them. They have lovely stories. It’s rare in the city to have people like them. The price is very very nice. You can fill yourself and another with 1 chicken roti since the portion is always generous. This place is small with barely places to sit therefore, take your chicken and go to the park. Remember to bring those napkins and a drink.

Amazing!!! Try the oxtail — you will not be disappointed. Everything homemade, flavorfully spiced by Joyce, your adopted Trinidadian grandma. Call ahead to check if she has something or she may even make it for you :)

It was cool, I probably went a little too close to closing time so my food wasn’t as fresh as it could have been but I could see the potential. The owners are very very sweet people. Id come back for sure.

The place is called Shayna’s Restuarant, but the very kind lady who cooks is named Joyce. I love eating Joyce’s food; she cooks it with love.

Specially Trinidad & Tobago cuisine. Rice too oily so can’t eat the bottommost, uncomfortably hot restaurant so can barely even stand inside when they take 15 mins to serve 1 take-out order, high take out prices especially for this neighborhood & listed at but won’t honor any vouchers. Food is pretty good with oxtail & goat curry recommended if you must eat here, avoid white rice though they’ll say that’s all they have, insist on any other rice.

This is a great local place … The establishment is that of old world Caribbean lore. Really good comfort food … right from your grannies kitchen. Chicken Roti. Oxtail. Stew Chicken… all very well done …

Wow, a small place with great roti. Much nicer people than the other roti place on Flatbush. She even made me and my friends special boneless chicken Roti that isn’t on the menu. I just wish they would update the store’s appearance. Nonetheless great food.

My family loves Shayna’s. Anytime my mom visits, she suggests we get Shayna’s. The food is delicious and she is super sweet. Her oxtail and roti are awesome. I’ve also had her goat curry, jerk chicken and chicken stew. The portions are a good size. I’ve never been disappointed. I’m nine months pregnant and it’s challenging to walk but I do walk for pick up because it’s delicious and worth it.

Mmmmm. Good food, good people, and a good introduction to Trinidadian cuisines. I’ve been a steady customer here for two years, and it is a special place in the neighborhood. Unpretentious, healthy as you want it to be, with rotis made fresh always! And, the owners will treat you like family if you’re open to that much kindness!

When we walked in I wasn’t sure if they were open. She asked if I wanted chicken. I said yes. She asked if I wanted roti. I also said yes. This was repeated a few more times before we ended up with chicken roti and a plate of rice and peas, chickpeas and callalou. The chicken was great! On the bone dark meat, tender and not the least bit dry in a spicy curry sauce, fortified with their surprisingly hot sauce. The roti was also amazing — buttery and moist. And amazingly inexpensive.

Five starts for the Roti. Shayna’s is a little hole in the wall, and they don’t really deliver and they close really early… but they are so good. It’s super cheap and so friendly. Seriously, go get some rotis and head to the park.

Shayna’s is the business. I mean, really. It’s a family-run and the roti here is always incredible. I’m a vegetarian(for the most part), but even my meat-eater friends agree, Shayna can cook up a storm. On top of it, she’s always making some new curry or another with something that she just got in and she’ll throw it in there or give you a sample while you wait. Perhaps just as importantly, the price can’t be beat and Shayna and her folks are absurdly sweet. It’s almost worth going there just for the genuine lovely people… but the food is the real reason.

4 Stars for now till I get in and can taste the doubles. This little hole in the wall shows great service, and a real dedication to Trini food. The Roti skin’s are great, with the dal layer in the Dalpurri staying moist throughout the entire Roti. The chicken curry was flavorful and spicy, and the pepper sauce was perfect. The chicken(with bones) was tender and, managed to taste chickeny under the spicy curry. The staff was intensely friendly, and had huge smiles on their faces the enire time I ordered and waited for my food. They didn’t have some things when I went though, they were out of pumpkin and doubles. Hopefully I can get back and try those for breakfast soon.
