Great space, the woman in the ticket booth was really nice, I love having an outdoor space between sets, free water if you don’t feel like drinking(still nice to leave a little tip for the bartender), the drinks do look reasonably priced with a good variety of options. Nice art around the premises, too. The sound was great, too – nice loud bands. Despite living on the other side of Brooklyn – Brighton Beach – it’s worth the trip to Bushwick for all the great little music spaces like this, many within walking distance from the Myrtle stop on the J train.

Silent Barn is a beautiful space to see music, a poetry reading, installation art, or really just to hang out in their cozy outdoor space surrounded by nice welcoming cool people! Doesn’t get better than this place.

It is what it is, and it is good. Some great bands play here on occasion. Pro tip: Arrive at the music events later, not earlier… Showtime is always much later than you expect.

I am really into this place. I saw a show here recently and though it’s really loud, I am pretty into it. They have cheap drinks and a nice outside space. There was a even a cool bookstore/barbershop thing going on. Really nice addition to this area.

I like this venue! I’ve been here for mostly queer events and the crowd is mostly left and radical, which is pleasant. I’ve been here for a clothing swap and also for a punk show, both of which were fantastic. The staff are friendly and down to earth and the space is big enough to accommodate many people and various types of events. I dig it!

Great venue! I’ve entirely enjoyed every show I’ve seen here. The space is intimate and the walls are covered in all sorts of interesting artwork. They’ve got your standard cheap beer along with other more expensive stuff if your willing to spend the extra bucks. The line up of musicians is superb almost always. One of my favorite aspects of the venue is the court yard where you can step outside in between sets to get some fresh air and escape the heat that accumulates in the building from all the people having a good time. I hear when the music isn’t playing the venue also hosts other community events but I have yet to check those out. Overall this is probably my favorite venue in New York City.

This is one of my favorite venues. Cozy, unconventional, colorful, and cheap. The artists booked are awesome, and if I haven’t heard them before seeing them live, I usually end up listening to their entire discography on repeat for weeks after. They recently added some pavement to the outside bit, which I am not a huge fan of, but I guess unnecessary conformity creeps up on us all sometimes. The crowd is usually a lot like myself – young, broke, and hungry for good lo-fi music. I hear there are more things I should take advantage of at the Silent Barn… barber shop? café? more art than I have seen? I will have to investigate.

Art gallery, music venue, barber shop, vinyl store, screenprinting studio, bar, café… pure DIY energy soul and beauty. I came for the queer dance parties and stayed for the humans.

Not bad! This spot had potential. Alright, I’m not really feeling the gate murals all the time(some of em are cool!) But the location and shows are fun! I’ve gone to a few ones that were fun. I also live in the area so I walk by a lot and it’s always poppin off! I see a bunch of great characters at this spot. They have art shows and music shows and other random events. Fun stuff! Parking isn’t too bad(but definitely lock ur cars and don’t leave items visible from the outside!) if you are driving. This spot has an indoor area, an outdoor area and sometimes there’s a back room accessible from the outside area where they show and sell art! Tons of dancing space! If it’s BYOB, there’s a sweet bodega across the street and down one block that has a great beer selection at super reasonable prices! If someone invites you to an event st Silent Barn, you’re probably gonna have a good time! This part of the neighborhood is also starting to pop-off, slowly and steadily. I hope silent barn stays and continues to kick ass!

All kinds of weird, but in a fun and amusing way. A lot of people in the crowd seemed like they randomly woke up in this building a decade or so ago, shrugged, and just decided to stay. Silent Barn is a good place to go to shake up your usual concert venue routine. There’s also a badass«Ice Cube Celebrates The Eames» poster on display above their main entryway.

OMG this place is awesome! Cool shows, Deep Cuts is a Barber shop/Record store, Gear & Needle makes bags from recycled materials, Aftermath is where you can get anything you want Supplies Store… and there’s MORE. They are open every evening!

I haven’t been to the Bushwick barn yet, BUT! I loved the Ridgewood one so much. The people were so friendly and it was just such a cool space. I saw some of my favorite bands there. The art on the walls, the way the seating was set up, and playing in those dudes’ kitchen. Unforgettable! Hope to come by soon.

Best DIY venue in NYC. Best place to see shows, best place to play, and extra points for the homemade Babycastles arcade installation in the basement. There’s really not much more to say about the Silent Barn. Recently, Silent Barn was robbed of 10k worth of gear. The fundraiser that began on Kickstarter soon after garnered so much support that within 2 days, they already raised half of their monetary goal. It just goes to show how much this venue means to the musicians and artists in NYC. With the renovations planned after they will likely hit their mark, it will be nice to see the Silent Barn solidify its home in the underground NYC music scene for years to come

The bands started much later than the venue suggested. The smokers did a good job of making it uncomfortable for the non smokers. Getting here from anywhere other than Brooklyn is a pain. The venue is small and cozy and would be a great place to see any band, but the acoustics are terrible and when it starts to fill up can get pretty claustrophobic. Got served a warmish beer, hopefully just a rare bad timing thing. Low cost cover makes it affordable, assuming you haven’t blown your wad on transportation to get there. Was an interesting experiment, but won’t be going back unless John Lennon is resurrected and plays there.

to break this down — this venue is a place where people live. bands play in the kitchen, there is decent floor space, and a «cool» unfinished basement to hang out in and get drunk. pretty close to the quintessential diy venue, especially since it’s a little further out there. saw the mae shi here a few years ago and it was definitely one of the best shows of the year.

Smokers everywhere in this place filling up the room like a fog machine casting soft lighting in this dimly lit venue. With a fridge and stove in the background this seems to be where a few people live. On the Thursday night I went it seemed to be much on the experimental type of music. No singers on this night but I’m sure on other nights they have their vocalists. Three couches to sit on most people stand. My stars are for the venue itself which I’m glad is there. I’d like to know the story behind the set up of place like this… How many people live there? Do they actually make rent playing these events? There just aren’t that many places that look like this in the city that I’ve seen. Almost like watching a band play in someones basement. I’ll stop back again.

Gotta love the DYI places! This venue is literally in the middle of nowhere, but its so worth it. I rode over from Café Orwell(in Bushwick/East Williamsburg) and was pleasantly surprised to find myself at Silent Barn less then ten minutes later. The outside really does look like something out of the Silent Hill video game. When my boyfriend and I pulled up, I seriously almost passed it thinking it was just some abandoned storage area. The inside however is really funky and cool. The people that own/run this venue are completely down to earth, and make you feel welcomed here. No snobs allowed! The venue is BYOB(There is a bodega a one minute walk down) or they have a mini bar down stairs. I warn you though, that mini bar is vicious! Maybe the very kind bartender thought she was helping me out by giving me that drink with half the bottle of vodka in it… but yeeaaahhh. Don’t say I didn’t warn you! Though I recommend buying from the bar and supporting the venue, unless you’re super broke, in that case the cover is also usually only suggested as well. Silent Barn is overall pretty awesome. I came here recently for an indie video game event and it was a good times! I talked to a lot of really great people, played new games, saw a live show, and hung out on the roof while some people had a mini pool party. Great night. Bike out for the event, feel at home with cheap drinks and crowd, stay for the roof top pool parties! A+ Kind of place.

Ah, my neighbors. I like the Silent Barn. There’s usually something interesting going on. The other night I was walking my friend, who also lives nearby, through some of the cool things in this part of the city which she wasn’t totally crazy about yet and I showed her the Silent Barn. We went in, and there was a weird dude jamming out on a crunchy synthesizer turned way too loud and chanting over it. A bunch of kids were slouched around half paying attention. And all of this on a Tuesday night! Just imagine if you go back on a Thursday or something. After seeing this place, my friend thought there might be some things worth sticking around for here on the far side of Ridgewood/Bushwick after all. Really though, this is an important kind of space to have. It’s lo-fi, dirty, open, and DIY. The kind of place where really, really special things can happen. While they might not happen every night, when they do they’ll be better than anything you’d see at a more refined venue. Plus, Todd P organizes some events here and that guy is a class act. Good stuff.

Somebody scooped up a bit of Athens, GA and plopped it down on the edge of Queens. Seeing the Vivian Girls at Silent Barn made me feel like I was 20 again and doing undergrad right this time around. It also made me regret not having seen Marnie Stern there the week before. A previous reviewer’s assessment of this as a «speakeasy for underground music» is spot on. Don’t come expecting anything polished or refined. I don’t know where the couches were in a previous life, but I wasn’t too fancypants to sit on them anyway. The floor seemed as though it might collapse under the weight of the mosh pit, but it held steady. The music was really enjoyable and I could tell that everyone really wanted to be there, from the highschool kid bouncing his heart out to the dude in a milkman uniform. Given how often hipsters are denigrated for aloofness and disaffected posturing, it was nice to see a whole passel having a really nice time. It felt like one of the most authentic music experiences I’ve ever had, and once in a while that feeling can trump all else.
