i had a good friend cut my hair for years, so i was worried about finding someone new when i moved to brooklyn. luckily i found skinny dip! sarah is the best. i mean, just the best! she is super sweet and funny and always does such an amazing job cutting my hair. it looks natural and i don’t even have to wait until it grows out a little to have it look the way i want. the cut is so good that i only have to go in once every 4 – 5 months to get a trim. she always has great tips and tricks when it comes to hair care and i trust her 100%, which can be really hard to find in a stylist! i found my favorite dry shampoo and although she doesn’t do color herself, she recommended a great low ammonia hair color that i used to get my hair back to its natural color. can’t beat the prices either — flat rate and she doesn’t accept tips. i believe she is moving locations from the bedford ave L to the lorimer L stop, so call in advance or stop by to make an appointment!

a great cut with simple, soft styling in mind — a natural look without gobs of chemical-filled product. philosophy: work with what you’ve got to make it great, don’t force your hair to do what it doesn’t want to. fixed-price cuts — based on hair length — without any additional tax or tip(it’s all built in to the price) means no guessing, no awkwardness at the counter. prices are fair and pretty reasonable for new york. everything about this place is low-key, low-maintenance and straightforward. i recommend sarah often to friends.

This place is great. The owner operated super Eco-friendly salon is the best around. Sarah is amazingly patient and delivers service with a smile. I wouldn’t dream of getting my hair cut anywhere else.

Sarah’s been cutting my hair for three years now. It all started when my wife got annoyed with old school Italian barbers in midtown making me look like a yeshiva boychik. Sarah helps nail my Park Slope prep look ever time. The surroundings are relaxed, and Sarah is always a delight to be around. Should you want products she has all the keen organic ones, and as mentioned in another post, I’ve never heard a word about purchasing any of them. It’s exactly the salon experience I want at the single seat skinnydip.

i was really excited to go because i’d read good reviews here and was the place was suggested to me by a friend(who had not actually been to skinnydip). Sarah was super nice but was sooo distracted. At first i didnt mind that she had to stop cutting my hair to sign for her already prepared juice diet/cleanse that was being delivered by the UPS person. BUt after like the 4th text message that she appologised for walking away to go check but. walked away to go and check. i got a bit annoyed. I wouldnt have been so bad if she hadnt forgotten what she was doing every single time .she’d say«we» were going to do such and such with my hair but she was so distracted that she’d do the complete opposite. forget where she was and it ended up lop sides and totally fringed when we agreed it would be blunt. ugh! once my hour was up. and it was the last hour she acted all frantic as though i needed to get out asap and as soon as she derobed me she went back to text messaging. the cut was so bad i just wanted to run away. i didnt have that new cut high… that is such a wonderful feeling when you often leave the salon. in fact, i was embarrassed to be seen .even by my boyfriend who i eventually sought for hair repair… now, that’s got to be pretty bad when you ask your boyfriend to fix it, right? the cut is $ 65. she is a nice person as far as i could tell but $ 65 is a steal in nyc and well, you get what you pay for.

Sarah is great. She never rushes and she charges a fair price for a haircut. I always feel like she makes my very average head of hair look good and, though I have no idea how one cuts hair, I am convinced she takes all teh steps to do it right. Plus, her place is eco-friendly, very cozy and she never pushes any products on you.

Here’s the DL; this place ROCKS, more specifically, Sarah ROCKS. This one of these places and one of these people that both make me love NYC and believe in the good of people. Sarah has trained at Vidal Sasoon and Aveda and worked all over and now runs her own funky shop in Billyburg. I was hesitant to go all the way there from Manhattan, but the strong thumbs up from my girlfriend along with the cheap price and the earth friendly set up got me on the L. Yup, she’s a green business with a cute selection of organic products to boot. And get this, she only charges $ 60 for a haircut and doesn’t take tips! I was like, please take my money, and she’s turning it down and I’m like, score me! I’m only afraid she’s going to become so popular that I’m never going to get in to see her again, really she’s that much of a find. She’s a sweetheart with ethical business practices in an industry that typically makes me want to stab my eyes out with a scissors. Make sure to call, she books at least a week out, and arrive on time because, OMG, she actually honors your appointment time. Oh, and it’s cash only. Have fun!

I love Skinny Dip! Sarah is wonderful and she has given me my favorite haircut ever. Seriously, ever. I have sent several friends her way and everyone has been more than thrilled. I also appreciate her commitment to organics. It’s always inspiring to see someone taking a stand for their beliefs in their life and business practices.

My friend, Sarah, cuts hair and uses all organic products(which are sold in the salon). She really hates weird chemicals. I’ve never been that concerned, but she scared the bejesus out of me when she started rattling off chemical names found in a lot of other products. The real reason I’m a big fan is because there’s only one chair. It’s like visiting a friend who happens to be taking scissors to your head every time you visit. Get an appointment in advance.
