The food is only so-​so, very hit or miss. I often get the wrong order, or get food that’s been out too long. Lot’s of other similar restaurants in the area, skip this place.

Unprofessional, Rude And I Wouldn’t Order From Them Again. We Ordered A Big Meal And Didn’t Receive The Beans So We Called Them And We Where Willing To Wait For Them To Send The Beans, They Never Sent It The Lady I Was Talking To Over The Phone Acted Like I Was Lying About Not Getting The Beans SMH This Restaurant Is Ridiculous.

How do i begin… the first time i ordered from this restaurant it took an hr just to get an order conformation. i decided to give them another chance so i ordered again on a later date. The second time my food took 2 hrs to come. Then the delivery man pulls up to my house eating half a chicken and white rice I’m thinking to myself… hey that’s what I ordered. so I checked my bag my French toast is in there my soda is in there but what a coincidence no chicken and rice so after waiting outside in the cold in the middle of the street (because the delivery man was so busy eating his chicken and rice that he didn’t even get out of the car) my chicken never turned Up and I had to go hungry after A 2 hour wait for food because everything else was closed at this point. The owner promised me a free meal but when I called the restaurant to collect on that offer they acted like they didn’t know what I was talking about I wish I could give less Stars

Before I start this review, you have to know that this is based off their delivery, which I got yesterday
We ordered Meal #4, which was their fried chicken pieces, beans, white rice, plantains, and 2-​liter drink. My first bite into the chicken indicated that it was either very fatty or a tad undercooked. And I don’t mess with oddly textured chicken, so I put it to the side.
It was a one-​off as the rest of the chicken were fine. Beans tasted great and it was the piece that pulled the whole thing together. Rice was okay but they didn’t last too well the next day as the grains were hard (I made do by turning it into fried rice hehe). Plantain was okay. Two stars — «meh, I’ve experienced better» is pretty on point cause I got the same thing at Ceci’s and that knocks this one out of the water.

Great selection on the menu… all your Spanish food faves! Tostones, maduros, baked chicken, beef stew, steak, fish, pork and mofongo… just to name a few. Yummy desserts! Most of the time, food is good, but there are a few items on the menu I am not to fond of… like there stuffed chicken breast… wasn’t for me. Otherwise… I’m satisfied!
Delivery is okay, sometimes they can take 45 minutes… hungry .com
Employees are nice. Sometimes overwhelmed… they get busy!
Prices are kind of high. There on deal sites like
, but when you ask them about it, they say you have to come in talk to a specific dude… HUH?
Okay place… will satisfy your «don’t want to cook» craving. lol

Some coworkers had gave some chicken rice And beans the chicken was very dry the the rice was season less everything was just dry even with the beans the food tasted dry i am Dominican and this to me was not Spanish food the reason why I’m giving it 2 stars is because I tried there pepper steak and it wasn’t that bad it was actually nicely seasoned that’s the only thing that was good.

This place is weak not sure why it attracts homo-​thugs like Chris M. He’s been caught «numerous times beating his own guts numerous times with a oversized cucumber and ky– jizzel

Tavares is my go to place when in the Highland Park neighborhood for the consistently fresh and delicious Dominican Breakfast, lunch and dinner that’s full on flavor and done right, served in small medium and large portion sizes and cheap prices.
Let’s talk about the Coffee…
This is not your average cup of coffee, it’s Dominican coffee that is exceptionally good with fresh nutmeg and other spices that gives the coffee extra oomph, flavor and depth and warms the soul up perfectly.
Breakfast is my all time favorite with Mangu, Dominican fried Salami and sausages, fried over easy egg with the yolk warm~ n ~runny and fried cheese and a hearty dollop of hot sauce to give it kick! A cheap and delicious heart attack special!
A must try is the seafood soup based in a hearty garlicky broth and blooming with lots of fresh crabs, octopus, scallop, shrimp, fresh vegetables and potatoes! The soup is a solid 5+!
Tavares has a high turnover nothing is dried out from sitting around to long and the dining area is tastefully decorated with comfortable seating.
Go get your Dominican food groove on!

Green plantain mangu with eggs, cheese and onions for breakfast is great. I tried the oatmeal once and it smelled burnt but I didn’t taste the burning flavor in it.
They have combo meals started at $ 3 with rice beans and chicken but since I am a vegetarian I won’t be needing the meat. I asked if they could substitute it for something like a small salad or tostones and they refused so I ended up spending $ 13 on rice beans and tostones. The tostones took about 15 mins while everything else is already made prior to and they just leave it over a proper food heater.
It’s a good restaurant for some Spanish food but it’s not all that.

From the moment my lady and I sat down on the table, the waitress gave us a funny stare while holding the pen and notepad ready to write our order. Here’s the problem: she didn’t hand us a menu, so for a split second I thought we would have to predict our order. My lady already had a funny feeling about the way she’s conducting business as a waitress. We got our food and it was ok. The issue with the food it wasn’t really as bad as what we would normally deal with in any other mediocre place. It was basically a bad case of waitress etiquette. The waitress was so lazy she sat down on the table next to us posting stuff on social media. After we was ready to go, we ask for the food be packed up to go. She came back with a container and handed it to my lady so my lady could do the work. Lazy! Lazy! Lazy! There was a nice guy that used to work there previously and he made me shell out a great tip for his excellent job, which of course I didn’t have a problem with. But this girl with glasses, either get rid of her or pay for her customer service classes.

Very good service. The food is good and the prices are fine. The staff is very nice and not just I’m gorgeous (which I am). They welcome all and it has a pleasant atmosphere. It’s in the hood but if that’s a problem for anyone then they should go be lame and scared someplace else.

The food was great and very fresh. The staff was very nice and polite, however it was a little confusing how to order. Either way I look forward to going back again soon.

Recently ordered the rotisserie chicken with plantains, beans and rice combo. The combo was able to feed myself as well as my fiancé. I loved everything; my fiancé, not so much. His major gripe was the chicken, which I agree. The chicken is way too salty. However, I’m also pregnant and crave salty things. So, it’s a win win for me. However, if you’re concerned about your sodium intake, the chicken here may not be for you.

The food is excellent, however their ordering system is all screwed up. if your ordering to go n it’s busy Beware there’s no front or end of the line. Just a bunch of people squeeze together. mostly friendly staff for the exception of one or two servers who seem to hate their life. N they have the best rice called chu-​fan it’s dark rice with veggies n all types of meats A must if u ever go by n it’s available.

The food here is AMAZING!!! the food was delivered in a timely fashion and the prices are great. I would order from this place again.

Everything smelled good but the rice was a little hard, their chicken was salty & the worst of all they forgot the utensils! (Keep in mind I’m staying the night at a hotel so I have no utensils). Now when I called back the lady asked who did my order no one knew then it sounded like there was a problem bringing utensils smh. Wouldn’t order from here ever again & wouldn’t recommend it to anyone either

This is by far one of the best Spanish restaurants I have eaten. They have have amazing service and awesome food. This restaurant definitely has put other restaurants to shame. Great ambiance for a Friday night if you want to have a beer and have a great meal ! Love this place !!

The owner is very nice and accommodating. This place is always busy food is fresh. Great tasting Spanish food. Plus the price is just right. Very clean. He just remodeled the place. If you are want to eat good but are on a budget this is the place for you

Excellent food and service. I’ve been coming here for years with my dad. They recently renovated and now I love it more. An extensive menu selection and will put something together for you in the back with no problem. I’m a vegetarian also so I truly appreciate how they have options for me. This is not common in Dominican restaurants. I took off a star because their prices went up. :-P

Well they seem to have a very extensive menu, the fish looks and smells as fresh as can possibly be though I somewhat doubt that it was not fully frozen before being cooked, and as per usual with these places you simply do not get enough beans to equate with the amount of rice you get, the prices are within reason I think, and well it is my insight that the staff have generally speaking a typical New York attitude/​mentality but not so much obvious as you tend to find almost everywhere else, but we shall not let that sort of thing deter us from going back to try something else from the menu
