We had a medium share of the fish(2 lbs) and an order of scallops(1lb) every three weeks through our winter CSA with Sunnyside, and we were pleasantly surprised by the consistent quality of the scallops(so delicious, fresh, really wonderful). But we were very disappointed by most of the fish we received, which ranged from winter skate to porgy to rainbow trout(the only fish we actually enjoyed) to more porgy and, again, more porgy. It’s fairly pricey to order a medium share of the fish through Village Fishmonger, and considering we paid an average of $ 48/week for the five winter pick-ups, the value of pre-ordering fish through a CSA was missing for us. We won’t be registering again to order another CSA this summer with Village Fishmonger, as a result. Also, there were quite a bit of grumbles from other CSA members — and I agree — that Village Fishmonger tended to run late in delivering the goodies for each pick up. Pick up for our CSA was between 5−8pm, and they sometimes arrived as late as 5:45pm, making it difficult to coordinate an efficient pick-up process for members.

Village Fishmonger NYC is a new concept in fresh seafood. Delivered to two drop off points in NYC. I pick mine up at the Kaia Wine Bar on the UES. I signed up for a «small share» of fresh fish You can add on additional fish. This week I added a pound of «Day Scallops». They were amazing. The fish is so fresh that I am now totally spoiled. I do the every other week Monday night pickup option. They provide what every fish is caught that day. So far, we have had Monk, Fluke and Skate. All wonderful. Check it out!
