This is a review of St. Joseph billing practices.
Before the service, insurance checks that the location is in-​network, copay applies, deductible does not.
Also before the service, front desk charge the copay, again confirms that this is a routine scheduled visit with in-​network provider, and only in-​network copay is due.
After the visit, multiple bills with 4x the promised amounts arrive.
After the fact, the hospital decided to bill the insurance for urgent or emergency care, out-​of-​network services, and deductible charges. The bills do not say any of these — only the amounts and due dates are listed, with scary language how they’ll come and take your firstborn if you do not pay immediately. It takes many phone calls and long times on hold to hear more lies how the hospital is allowed to send multiple bills because it is the hospital. They care, and prefer to charge more rather than charge less.
Stay healthy. Avoid St.Joseph. Save hours of your life.

For the most part, i’m not a huge fan of the hospital, but when I had my back surgery, I had to have it there. The nurses pre op and post op were fantastic! The nurses on the 3^rd floor in the tower were fabulous! I know I was a whiney baby and in a lot of pain. I’m not a skinny girl either, but those nurses never once made me feel like a big baby and came rushing in anytime I needed help. They were pretty great. It’s hard to find nurses these days who actually do remember that they are there to care for patients and not just collect a paycheck. Other floors other than L&D are a nightmare there. I HATE IT. I’m I had a great experience on L&D and 3^rd Floor Tower. If you have to go there, do not let them run you over. Remind them that they busted their butt in nursing school to care for patients and sometimes they need to be reminded.

Over the past 6 years we have had two parents in the CCU at St. Joseph’s. My dad was there 6 years ago due to a heart attack and quad bypass. The care he received was exemplary! The nurses were caring, efficient, and knew their business.
This week my mother-​in-​law was in the CCU. She too has received exemplary care. From the moment she was brought into the ER until the procedure she needed was completed today all of the staff have been professional but warm and caring.
The majority of my family works in healthcare… from a neurologist to an RN to a lab tech so we expect a high level of care and both of our parents certainly received it.
I highly recommend the CCU and the med/​surg staff at St. Joseph’s Regional Health Center and am grateful that this facility is here near all of my parents.

Okay, this review has a couple of entertainment factors going on for you, first of which is me admitting I’m a complete and utter spastic. I’ve been to St. Joe’s twice in the past six months, both times for wrist fractures, one on each wrist. Namely, left wrist-​July 3^rd, right wrist-​November 3^rd. NO, I’M NOT BEING ABUSED. I just can’t dance. That’s all I’m going to say about that.
I’ve had surgery twice there, once immediately following the first ER visit and once after visiting the ER and then scheduling the surgery for a week later. The first time, I did not have insurance. And the medical staff treated me like a queen. The second time, I DID have insurance, and the medical staff treated me like a queen. The staff is outstanding. Attentive, nice, sweet, caring… they went overboard making sure I wasn’t in pain, and that I was not caused further pain by any of their ministrations.
The three star rating difference comes with the fact that their financial services department are a group of cannabilistic, greedy, grasping, mercenary fuckweasels. They treated me better when I was considered «indigent» than they did when I actually showed up with a responsible insurance plan. I won’t go into details both for personal and legal reasons, but here’s hoping they all get dog shit in their Christmas stockings.
The nurses and doctors and other staff, though? Freaking top notch. I’ve never felt more cared-​for or safe while in the throes of what otherwise could have been really scary, painful experiences. And for that, I thank you, St. Joe’s.
