I don’t know if it is an addiction but I stop here for the Pastrami Sandwich about once a week.

Chili dogs and corn dogs are amazing! Service — not so much. Last week, no straw(you don’t really realize how difficult it is to drink a milkshake without one). Today, no fork. I still eat here though.

I’ve been here 4 – 5 times over the years, and the other night I reacquainted myself with the reason why. I’d say that Corndog 7 has better corndogs, but you’d have to at least go to the Woodlands to verify it, since the one at Post Oak Mall closed years ago. The corndogs at Wienerschnitzel have a rather spongy batter breading reminiscent of those frozen ones you find in grocery stores. The dog inside, as well as those in a bun have shrunk considerably over the years, and tastes like then slightly bitter cheapo boiled dogs my father ‘cooked’ for us(note the lack of nostalgia for generic dogs). My advice for the hotdog jones in Bryan: go across the street to Hot Dogs & Wings Etc.

Wow, I didn’t think there was one of these that still existed in it’s original A-Frame form. As a kid we used to eat at Wienerschnitzel in California, it was actually called Der Wienerschnitzel until around some time when Star Wars hit the big screens. Now Wienerschnitzel certainly is not a place where you are going to find a culinary masterpiece(I mean it’s just fast food), some of the time you do just want a hot dog. The chili dogs here are great. I was totally blown away to see this location for the first time as I had not seen one in over 20 — maybe 25 years. And when eating here recently one of the employees told us that this one has been there since the 1960’s. She said that even the trash can out in the front is original.(Later I realized that she had to have been joking … Hahah) One of the major appeals that got this chain started in the 1960’s(by a friend of the creator of Taco Bell), was the building design, where you drive through the middle of it. That was very unique at the time and it’s pretty cool that you can still do that here. We enjoyed the outside seating here as there are two — three tables right by Texas Avenue. Fun to sit out there on a nice day. Thumbs up! Support this place now and then for sure, maybe it will still be around for the next 45 years as well.
