This is long, but necessary if my story helps someone avoid a practice that employs people who are callous and rude. I can’t speak for the entire staff, but why risk being treated poorly? I made an appointment when I found out I was pregnant. The receptionist was condescending and brusque. Rushing people off the phone isn’t going to change the fact that calls come in all day. Two weeks later I was spotting and knew something was wrong because I’d had a miscarriage before. I went to the Rosemont office and saw Dr. Leone. She never introduced herself, but I knew by her lack of bedside manner and then reading her lab coat, who she was. She freaked out because she was missing the pregnancy wheel which would tell her how far along I was. I told her, but I guess that didn’t matter. She did a quick exam, asked me if I was trying to have kids(not sure why whether or not I was TCC mattered), gave me a Rx to get blood drawn and told me to go to the ER if I started bleeding profusely. I understand that they see miscarriages all the time, but for each patient who goes through it it is an unfamiliar and traumatic experience, at least provide some more medical information and maybe an ounce of compassion! Since it was a weekend, I went to Quest. I called Main Line on Monday for results and had to call back several times and deal with the rude receptionist before finding out that my HCG levels were declining. They scheduled me to come in and get more blood drawn. In the meantime, I was experiencing a miscarriage. Through my own research, I discovered the Anora test, which can test a tissue sample and see if there are any genetic abnormalities causing the miscarriage. Dr. L thought it was too early to test but said to bring the sample in. When I did, the nurse said the Dr. on duty(someone else, a male) would have to approve it to be tested. I heard him in the other room grumbling about it and brushing the nurse off. It was clear he didn’t want to be bothered. So the nurse, who was the only helpful person I dealt with, prepared the sample, took my blood and gave me a brochure about the test. The results came back inconclusive, but Anora’s policy is to test twice. I never got the results from the second test, even though I called Main Line regularly for over a month to get the results. At this point, I’d already received a call from the lab saying my doctor had the final results. I left messages on the nurse’s voicemail, but my calls were never returned, and I tried calling the rude receptionist as a last resort and got a different voicemail system that gives you about 10 seconds to leave a message. No one ever called me back. I returned to the practice for the final blood test to confirm my HCG levels were at zero. When the nurse tried to take my blood she couldn’t do it and both of my arms ended up bruised. Another nurse had to come in and draw blood from my hand, I’ve never had that happen before, and my hand was also bruised. By this point, I was crying. I asked the nurse if I could talk to the doctor about what was happening. The nurse said no, I’d have to make a separate appointment. I left in tears. Later I called to get the blood results. I had to deal with the rude receptionist again who thought I was a mind reader and should’ve known that Dr. Leone was at another location that day. The doctor called me back a few hours later to confirm that my levels were at zero. I asked her if I could make an appointment to discuss the fact that this was my second miscarriage and what I should do going forward – you know, get medical advice. She reacted like it was the most outlandish thing she ever heard and said«Uh, okay I guess.» No one should be treated this way, so I changed practices. My new doctor ordered basic bloodwork to rule out any common causes of miscarriage(lupus, thyroid, etc.) and gave me time to ask questions and get what Main Line Women’s Health didn’t provide at all – expert medical advice in a caring manner.

I’ve been using this doctor’s office for three years now. I saw Dr. Leone my first time and she is nothing special. She actually made me feel quite uncomfortable. I’ve seen Beth the past two times. I liked her a lot. She’s nice, she takes her time to answer my questions, and you can hold a genuine conversation with her. The women however who is in charge of answering the phones is the definition of rude. I do not know which office she works at, but she should not have a job. I simply called to post-pone my first Gardisil injection by a week and you would have thought the end of the world was about to happen. Not only did she whine her tone in my ear, but it sounded as though she was snapping gum into the phone. She didn’t listen to me when I stated it needed to be after 1PM and when I corrected her she sighed super loud. She then continued to ask if I absolutely had to go to the Rosemont office. I wanted to slap her through the telephone. To top the conversation off she asked how old I was. BEYONDRUDE.

I have been going to this doctors office for a few years now, but am looking into switching soon. While the doctors and wonderful and I never have an issue with them, getting in touch with the office is nearly impossible. You can’t get in touch with anyone if you’re calling before 9am, between 1−2pm or after 4pm. There is no option to even leave a voice message for a simple request to be taken care of the next day. When you call during«normal» office hours, you are put through a series of automated voicemails and still can’t speak to a live person unless they decide to call you back at an inconvenient time later. It should not be this difficult to reach a live person for a simple question or prescription refill request, especially at a doctors office. I am sick of dreading the process of getting in touch with my doctor, simply because of a poor receptionist system. Again, the doctors are great, but the front desk needs a serious upgrade.
