I went back thinking it was still Miyako but unfortunately it’s under new management. I’m pregnant but decided I can still have baked or fried California rolls and even though it’s under new management I figured we should try it out. I will not be returning and will definitely post a review on the new restaurants Unilocal page. We ordered two rolls, Baked salmon and an eel roll, water and a Sprite with edamame. My check was $ 35.00!!! 35 bucks! For sushi that we left. The baked salmon roll was raw. Don’t get me wrong, I love salmon sushi but it’s so disgusting to bite into salmon thinking it’s fully cooked and get this nasty watery taste or raw and baked. It was gross! I ended up taking off the salmon and having a California roll. Which was not worth 35bucks. That’s usually how much we spend when we have a ton of sushi with beers.

The sushi place that took over is on spot, onzen, was great, wasn’t busy since they just opened last week but like their other location, I was highly satisfied. Best focus on fish taste with great fish to rice quality. Ample parking for their size. I liked the music, was pop but cool atmosphere. Presentation was great, wish I took pictures. But I expect this place to blow up with customers when the word spreads.

First and last time coming here. Waitress made a mistake on my order. I order the fire roll and received a dynamite roll. waitress asked if I would like to keep it and take it home and I wouldn’t get charged because it was her mistake or it’ll be thrown away, of course i said yes. Less than five minutes later she comes back from talking to the manger because of her mistake and said that i would have to eat it the dynamite roll there. I told the waitress I wouldn’t be able to, so she took it back. ** Don’t offer something and take it back. ** I miss Joe’s Sushi ** the seaweed on my Double Triple Roll must have been stale cuz it was chewy.

This place rocks. So good. Spend as much or as little as you want. But it’s quality across the board. Best parking lot in a hundred mile radius. Not the kind of sushi place where you can watch the basketball game. I mean that in the best way. Recommendations? Tiger, Dragon, Caterpillar, yellowtail, tempura ice cream, come to mind, but everything else I have had is good. Teriyaki too sweet and tempura coat too thick, my only complaints.

Wanted to celebrate one of our friend’s birthday with some good sushi without paying gazillions of dollars and we randomly found this restaurant through Unilocal! Unfortunately, it wasn’t the greatest. The quality of the sushi was mediocre. The salmon wasn’t too bad but the tuna was pretty dry and stale tasting? Another thing was that most of the rolls that were offered were mainly built on California rolls(sushi for Non-Asians). We Asians know how we all feel about California rolls(at the bottom of the sushi food chain) However, they had good bento bowl deals with teriyaki chicken, salmon or beef. Other than that, it wasn’t that great Maybe I came on a bad day? I only give this place 3 stars because their staff were really friendly and nice.

Lunch review Late lunch with the boy. We missed the lunch crowd and got a table pronto. It’s a nice sized restaurant with a long sushi bar. Décor is typical Japanese, very nice! Here’s the rundown: Sushi & Sashimi Mix — This was just okay. All the sashimi was nicely cut and fresh. The nigiri and rolls were standard. It was pricey for what I got. Soft Shell Crab — it came on a bed of salad. It was a plateful of salad. That was a first. I had to separate all the soft shell crab before it got soggy. This is my son’s dish. He likes it crunchy. Lol. Miyako Udon — Udon was perfectly cooked. Broth needed more help in the flavor category. Free soda with Unilocal Check In. They have a big parking lot, so parking shouldn’t be an issue Service was very friendly. I wish I could say I liked this place. But for the quality and price, I could do better somewhere else. Try them out and decide for yourself.

I’m a fan of Miyako but unfortunately their service was sub-par. I came here for dinner on a Saturday evening around 7:00PM. It wasn’t too busy and we were sat right away. The good: –Complimentary miso soup and steamed edamame –Waitress was nice and friendly –The sushi was good –Fresh wasabi The bad: –Never got our drink orders. I then asked for water but the waitress only came back with one for me and not for my boyfriend. Um. –Didn’t provide us with soy dishes or small plates. How else are we supposed to eat our sushi? –The oysters weren’t that fresh. I’ve also had this problem at a previous sushi dining experience. Now I know just to order oysters at specialty Seafood/New American restaurants.

Service is wonderful. Water & tea was always refilled, food came out in a timely manner. Vegetarian review: — yakisoba: not bad. Lots of veggies– onions, cabbage, broccoli, etc. Kind of oily at the bottom, but the flavor was pretty good. — Inari: also fair. Not spectacular or amazing, but standard. — Tamago: again– fair. Larger than other places, but the taste was average. Complimentary: edamame, small appetizer salad, & miso soup.

One of the best sushi joints in SoCal. I’ve been to over 50 from LA down to San Diego. John is an amazing sushi chef artist with an exceptional personality. I’m a sashimi eater and the quality is great along with an amazing presentation. It’s a very friendly atmosphere and you will enjoy your experience. Best oyster shooter I’ve had in my life!

Excellent sushi restaurant in Buena Park. The wait staff is incredible. I’ve yet to receive such superb service at a sushi restaurant! I was pleasantly surprised. Granted, it’s small, quaint and the ambiance is fitting. We generally sit st the«bar» and watch the pro’s make all the sushi rolls. Excellent quality and portions. The complimentary miso and almond salad is quite tasty. Don’t get me started on the pan fried gyoza. Oh, my sweet baby Buddah! Jesus! It’s great. Seriously. Everything on the menu is wonderful. 8 visits. We mastered ordering at this location, haha.

I have been going to miyako in garden grove with my family since they opened about 8 years ago. It’s always so crowded at that location, so I was excited to find this location on Unilocal! Super friendly service! They remembered us! I love when business owners take the time to know their customers. The hot to hot roll is bomb if you like spicy! Baked mussels are great too. I also recommend the gyoza and the teriyaki beef plate for non sushi lovers. Crunch roll is another great one! Always fresh! Great prices!

I was surprised at the sub-par quality of the food given it’s 5 star rating on Unilocal.I got various kinds of nigiri which were about average. My friend ordered two rolls which were just awful. They were poorly made and were falling apart on him as he was picking them up to eat. The portion was also disappointing considering each roll cost about 12 dollars. We did receive free mugs as a thank you for dining there during the holidays, so yay? Maybe it was an off night, but I don’t see myself returning.

The staff here is really nice! They give you a genuine greeting right when you walk in and have a huge smile on their faces :) I came here on a Sunday around 12:30pm and it was pretty empty. There was one table of two people so our group of 7 was seated very quickly. The food came out in a timely manner and everyone gets delicious miso soup and a plate of salad. My only issue with the salad was that there was a lot of dressing and I’m not a fan of a sudden, strong vinegary taste in my last few bites(the dressing sits in the plate so the last bit of salad is dripping in dressing). But other than that personal preference, it was good! Definitely fresh and crispy. So I ordered the Chirashi bowl. The tuna was my favorite part. It’s interesting though because half of the bowl under the fish was a bunched up bit of radish? So the amount of rice is only half the bowl. Fine with me as I only really wanted the fish haha. If you’re looking for a more sushi-rice flavored rice though, this may not be what you’d want. Just a bit on the plainer side for the rice. The egg, though, was also very good! Also, sidenote. They kinda forgot my mom’s sashimi salad so when we mentioned it to her, she went right away to ask the chef. When the salad was done, she brought it over and said she put some extra fish as a sorry for the wait. A very sweet gesture! Thank you! :)

New Place in the area! Really friendly staff! I always want Sushi and theres always one dilemna– drive out to LA or get all you can eat? But sometimes you just want to stay local and get some quality sushi without having to go out far. Miyako does the trick! I usually don’t like rolls, but their rolls were fantastic! Pop of flavor in your mouth. However, I wouldn’t suggest the Nigiri as much. They gave us two tunas and maybe it’s because I really do not like Tuna. but I really do not like tuna.

I was so bummed when I noticed that Joe’s sushi had closed… I had never eaten there before but I was bummed at the fact that Buena Park would add another abandoned building to it’s streets. My husband & I were looking for a sushi place close to home and Miyako showed up on our Unilocal & the reviews are high. We were so surprised and hesitant when we saw that it was at the old Joe’s location. We took our three boys for dinner and are so happy that we did. The place was empty which is a bummer but it was so nice and clean inside and we were all able to sit at the sushi bar. The food was fantastic! Since I am preg & cannot get my raw fish fix, I am limited on what I can eat but everything I was able to eat was great. My husband loved his rolls and my sons loved their teriyaki and salmon nuggets. We have returned again for dinner since our first visit and also lunch a couple times. The food remains consistently good and the service is excellent. I can’t wait to really enjoy the menu once the baby is here!

Awesome service, so friendly and attentive, thank you Holly! Had the lobster roll, some other roll, and steamed gyoza! Yum! Make sure you also ask for fresh wasabi, makes the food tastes so much better. They were kind enough to give us free miso soup, small side salad, and a free mug just because they opened a month ago!

Really, really good. The service is exceptional and everyone was very nice. The Aloha roll was our favorite by far. It was so good and their spicy tuna is really fresh tasting. We also tried the Jessica roll and the Yummy roll, both of which were good. Because it was their opening week, we ended up getting some free edamame and also two mugs. Overall, this place was very good and I’m very pleased that it opened up so close to the house. It took over for Joe’s sushi and I feel that it’s a vast improvement over what was initially there. We would absolutely come back.
