Really disappointed to see this place close down but it does not surprise me a bit. Business was bad, service was slow and the servers were not very attentive. Shinsun did, however, serve up one of the tastiest bowls of Haejangguk(Hangover Soup) you could find in all of Orange County. It was a hot bowl of beef broth filled with Napa cabbage, ox blood pudding and vegetable goodness. Their Gamjatang(spicy pork neck-bone and potato stew) was also very good. Rich and hearty, spicy and brimming hot. The seolleongtang(beef brisket in oxtail broth) lacked the flavor, texture and consistency of its nearby competitor, Jangmo Jip. Unfortunately, I just got around to writing this review. The lesson here is this: the budget is tight, so the food better be right; serve your customers with eagerness and delight, or you might not survive to see the morning daylight.

I’ll confess. I’m a spoiled brat. and this is all thanks to Hanbat Sullongtang in LA. The thickest tastiest broth and tender chunky pieces of meat… Nothing compares! But Shinsun was surprisingly good! The creamy broth was thick and when seasoned with salt, pepper, and ggakdoogi googmool, it was pretty good(especially after a previous night of soju binging). I ordered mine with tripe and brisket. The meat was cut a little small and it was only about half the amount they serve at Hanbat. They served kujuree which is fresh kimchee. It was ok. I thought the ggagdooki was delicious though. Green onion kimchi was good too! It’s a clean place and the servers are pretty nice. I had the same girl twice and she is very attentive to your needs. Will I come back? Most definitely. While not stellar, the sullongtang will hit the spot!

Beef Noodle Soup This place is super clean and the people are friendly. Alas, K Town has spoiled me and I am used to very, very, very good soups. This place was just average for me. Nothing spectacular and actually kind of bland. I doubt that I would be back. However, compared to other K places I have been outside of Ktown, I have to say this one is AOK.

Food was pretty solid. The sullong tang was pretty big and filling. I went with a group of 8 and the food came out promptly. Only sore point was the price– about $ 7.50 not including tip. Mapojip right across the street is cheaper… But shinsun is defintely better tasting.

I forgot what I got here… su lung tang maybe? It’s white broth soup with beef, rice noodle, tripe and some brownish spongy thing that looks like blood. Yes, I know you have to season your su lung tang with salt and I didn’t do it. It was bland. I did add some kimchee to my soup. And it helped a little bit. I couldn’t really eat it. It reminds me when I was little and I didn’t want to eat. I would rather sleep at the restaurant than eating that. 2 stars! Shinsun is not yummylicious!

going to jang mo jip when having a hang over was my thing, until the owner changed and thank god shinsun opened when jang mo jip down graded. the sullung tang is great on a cold rainy day and the hae jang guk is the best hang over cure next to phở.

Good soup, at decent prices(sullong tang will run you about $ 7; other kinds of soup are a little more). The staff is really friendly. I get the no-frills sullong tang(just beef) with glass noodles because damnit, it’s GOOD: very flavorful, with thin slices of tender beef, firm noodles. The green onions don’t just sit out: the container’s kept in the fridge, so they’re nice and crisp. Banchan: just the basic spicy radish, some kimchee, and some spicy green onions. Usually, the places I’ve been(granted, I’m no sullong tang expert) only serve the radishes, so I was surprised at the extras. The sauce for the radishes is a bit thinner than I’m used to, too, but they were still good. SERIOUSLY good eats for the winter months when it’s cold and/or rainy outside.

I was looking for a dumpling for lunch and this place popped up in the reviews. Let me preface this by saying that the only dumpling that they served here is in a soup and they do not have a dish of dumplings by itself. No Mandoo on this one. After looking over the menu, I asked my co-worker if he wanted to bail on this place since they don’t have any dumplings on the menu. He and I decided to give it a run and see if the soup noodle dish was any good. We both decided to get the«#1» choice on their menu which was the Sugeo Seolleongtong(Beef Bone Soup with tripe, brisket, tongue, and melt) . The soup look very creamy like a sour onion dip and the texture of the soup was very silky. There is an option where you can choose either egg noodle or thin noodle. I opted for the thin glass noodle . With the soup, you can added in green onion and salt to the level of your liking. They pretty much left the soup at the virgin level and left to you to decide on how you wanted your soup to be salty. You would think we wouldn’t enjoyed a simple soup that is slowly boiled from beef and bone. Well… you guessed wrong. We slurped the soup like there’s no tomorrow and chow it down like Campbell soup commercials would be proud of. Plus with the protein and calcium we got, at least we claim we did it for the vitamins. We also got a plate of assorted meat($ 16.99) which consists of different parts of cow like tripe(intestine), liver, and chadol. That was a well worth feast we had munch on. It was a bit overkill since the noodle soup itself would had been fine. They have four other types of soup which one of them is a dumpling soup. Majority of the dish will run you around $ 8-$ 16, but one bowl of soup will be enough for a meal. With a teensy little banchans(side dish of kimchi and spicy beets) and attentive service, we actually had a good time dining here. Even though our initial beginning of coming here was for dumplings, we should have just gone to Mandoo Rang next door, but was very satisfied in trying out new cuisine. Sometimes it is better to be lucky.

So there i was in my office on cold rainy day, what do i want? Besides Pajeon, I was in the mood for soleong-tang! which basically it’s a stew meat soup. I saw this place at the same plaza in Buena Park where i reviewed the Dumpling House. Dont you find funny how many Chinese restaurants and sometimes Korean restaurants do their translation, well there was not an exemption with this place: the Stamina soup, so to make my impression I said loudly YESGIVEMESOMESTAMINASOUP!- and it was good!- The restaurant specializes in traditional Korean soups, the price is good and good quality! Strongly recommend it
