This is a great sushi lunch place. You come here if you want good sushi for a decent price not to make friends with the staff, who seem attentive enough. Their lunch specials vary but you can find a good deal for the NW suburbs!

I will preference by saying, I did not try the sushi. We didnt even get that far. I bought a groupon because I had a serious sushi craving. I saw that the groupon did not allow you to order the specials but assumed there were just a few. Wrong! There were different specials/combos all throughout the menu that were excluded from using groupons. In my opinion, if you are going to use a service like groupon, there should be a real value to it. The salad was free, if you did not have a groupon. There were buy one get one roll specials– if you did not have a groupon. There were pick 2 or 3 combos– if you did not have a groupon. The fusion rolls were a great deal at $ 6.95– but only if you didnt have a groupon. If you used the groupon they were between $ 11 – 14 I have never been to a place with so many exclusions for groupons. I think it would have been cheaper to eat there WITHOUT the groupon. It seems like they get you in the door by using groupon and then over charge you. We ended up leaving because I did not appreciate all the exclusions. I also have a 18 month old and did not want to pay the $ 8 for the kids meal. The place seems a little run down as well. I requested a refund for my groupon and will not be returning.

Sushi Yaki… more like Sushi Yucky! This place is culinary diarrhea. That isn’t to say that the food tasted like diarrhea(although you might pose a valid question of how one can properly utilize the phrase«taste like diarrhea» without having taken a bite of actual diarrhea)… but as far as sushi goes, it was about as disappointing as the time David Archuleta was the runner-up in American Idol. The presentation was below par — my rainbow roll was about as bright and interesting as Petunia Dursley, certainly nowhere near as appetizing as its counterparts at other restaurants! The sushi was decidedly unsatisfying and stickier than the grubby fingers of an elementary school boy. The seaweed refused to rip when I would bite into it; it was clearly past its date. Speaking of which, I was on a date when I dined at Sushi Yucky! Never again!!! A brief tip: Don’t order the single piece crab sushi! The chef clearly gives it next to no thought, and I’ve never seen something so closely resemble — in both taste and appearance — a decaying corpse on a plate. A rather pink decaying corpse comprised of unremarkable rice and some gelatinous nonsense that my sources tell me was supposed to be crab. The only crab I got out of this piece of sushi was crabbiness over its crappiness. Lastly, the service. In a word, «dreadful.» In another word, «pathetic.» In a third word, «horrendous.» In a final word, «cataclysmic.» Our server was rude, inattentive, and was utterly unable to comprehend the unfailingly complicated reality that is Groupon. It was clear she had either never dealt with Groupon before or simply was unsure of how to deal with it. Either would be excusable if she asked someone for help, but she instead elected to take the battle-tested route of «continually announce ‘no’ on repeat like a child listening to his favorite song on iTunes while your customers calmly try to explain to you how Groupon works.» The restaurant wasn’t busy, but it took my boyfriend and I forever to get our food. Several parties who came in after us and ordered considerably more food were served significantly before we were. It truly did feel as if we were being ignored; our waitress was so hard to flag down in this assuredly-not-busy-in-the-slightest restaurant that my boyfriend joked that we should ask for the bill right when the food arrived. He had a point. I should have asked Sushi Yucky to give us a few(dollar) bills just for wasting our time there. I could’ve used those for a much better deal on sushi from Trader Joe’s or something. When your sit-down restaurant is outclassed by a grocery store with«Joe» in its namesake, you know you’re circling the toilet drain of gastronomic catastrophe. Please, somebody, please… just flush the yucky away.

Its now been a dozen times that we’ve been here, and the place is still a solid 4 stars for us. As many have noted, the service is very subdued. Still, the food is quite good and the presentation is typical of sushi places in the area. Prices have moderated a bit, the sushi«A» combo is actually a bit less than it was 3 years ago. The gyoza appetizer still a winner and is only $ 5 now. At times they run specials, but you have to remember that they are not valid with Groupons or other such offers. On some nights it is discouragingly not busy, at least in the main dining room.

The rolls were ok. Not a place to return to. The server was of few words. I think the rolls are overpriced and I am glad I had a groupon because paying full price for those rolls would have been disappointing.

The online menu had Chicken Katsu listed which I really wanted. I got to the place, and Chicken Katsu is not on the menu? Huh? The appearance could be better. A dark red or black ceiling would be nice, more stylish. Not exactly a date night restaurant. The Dragon roll wasn’t anything to fancy, which it should be. The Dragon roll should always be the most impressive roll on the menu, but this one just had some sauce all over the top of it.

This place is just ok. The food is decent and the décor is cool, but that’s really about it. The service could be much, much better and friendlier — I think that is this place’s biggest drawback. There is a language barrier, but there’s one at Wakaba a few minutes away as well, and they still soar ahead even with that. Meanwhile, Sushi Yaki falls behind on expectations. They have some good specials though, but when you order one, they firmly ask if you are using a coupon or anything as you cannot combine coupons and specials — which is fine, but they could be nicer about it. Overall, not a fan of this place. We’d gladly go somewhere else, like Wakaba mentioned above, or obviously Tsukasa or Blufish.

My family and I go to Sushi Yaki often and are big fans. Paul does an excellent job preparing tasty rolls for us. He’s an extremely creative chef, and he keeps his fish fresh. We typically order sashimi and rolls. They also serve a yummy chocolate sundae with bananas prepared tempura-style that’s even more tasty that you’d expect it to be. The pricing is extremely favorable for a sushi restaurant. If you live in the area and are a sushi fan, it’s worth stopping by Sushi Yaki.

They’ve gone down, if they don’t step it up they’ll be gone. I will not be returning. Not even worth it with a coupon.

I order lunch here quite often! Place is very clean and owners are super sweet! Very nice relaxing setting when you have dinner. It takes a little while to wait for the food, but if you order ahead of time it’s better. I’m obsessed with the spicy mayo, edamame, and Godzilla rolls. Brought my boyfriend here and he now wants to go all the time :)

We came here with a Groupon. At first, we were given some trouble about which things the Groupon could be used for; the Groupon website was pretty clear that sushi had to come from certain groups on the menu, but we were given a separate«Groupon menu» with even fewer choices. After pointing out the specific wording, we were allowed to order from the missing rolls as well, but told not to come back if we would do that again. Ouch. Not a good first impression. The sushi was a bit mushy and not tremendously flavorful, but with the discount, a fair price. I’ve had non-couponed sushi in the area that was better in terms of quality and fullness, but it was okay. One of our rolls was supposed to be scorched on top just before serving. The chef used a propane torch for this, and it didn’t work well at first: all you could taste on the roll was the flavor of propane and the scorching was pretty minimal(see photos). The other rolls were /okay/; nothing to write home about aside from the mushiness, and let’s be honest: who would write home about that? I was also put off by all the religious propaganda both inside the restaurant and in the entryway. I’ve noticed this at a handful of Asian restaurants, but this place had posters up near our table when we visited too. This took away from the experience and made the atmosphere feel a little less than welcoming, and if you go back to the«first impression» bit above, you’ll see why we haven’t returned.

I have been here twice both times using a Groupon. The first time was OK. Not good but not terrible. The next time I went was awful. The sushi was mushy. The salmon in the Philadelphia roll was so fishy as if it was sitting out for a long time. The service was equally as bad. We were the only customers(should have been a red flag) and yet it took forever to get our bill. The menu is over priced for such poor quality sushi. There is also a lack of variety in the specialty rolls. If you’re in the mood for sushi, go somewhere else.

Let me start by pointing out that I am not a sushi snob, and my standards are probably not snobby high. However, I do know what bad and good sushi is. The owner Paul(also the chef) is a first rate guy. He knows his stuff, and he’s creative. Every time I’ve gone in, the sashimi is fresh, and the rolls are delicious. This place probably isn’t going to win any contests, but for an accessible neighborhood joint, this place is tops in my book. Plus, the portions are VERY generous, maybe the most generous I’ve ever seen! And the prices are definitely on the lower end of the spectrum for sushi stops. Check it out. I don’t think you’ll be disappointed.

My two experiences at Sushi Yaki have been positive. Their menu consists almost entirely of maki, nigiri, and straight up sashimi. The sushi is alright in quality and preparation; it does the job. However, it’s not a restaurant I would travel to if I didn’t live or work in the area. The main draw of Sushi Yaki is that it’s dirt cheap. It might be the cheapest sushi place I’ve gone to in the Chicagoland area. They have constant 2-for-1 california and tempura roll deals. And their«Pick 2, 3, or 4» half rolls for cheap will fill you up quickly. They had other rotating deals both times I went in for meals too. It’s so cheap at Sushi Yaki that it made me anticipate some post-meal queasiness but my stomach was alright both times. If you commute down Arlington Heights Road, you should consider grabbing some cheap sushi to go. Otherwise, I would search for other options in the area.

We go there all the time, place is truly nice and convenient for us. You can register your cards with miliage plus dining and get rewards every time you eat there. Low key place though, could not be simpler and more exposed than it is! Price wise — not entirely all that cheap, owners are kind and provide you with some coupons we never keep.

My husband and I came here on a whim bc we were starving and in the area. It’s tucked away in a strip mall where Dominick’s used to be so it is a little hard to find. It was about 6pm on a Friday and somewhat empty which had us worried at first but that was no indication of how yummy the rolls were. We had the Philly, Armageddon and Godzilla and all of them were so good – texture, flavors, and portion! They were a bit pricey for a hole-in-the-wall joint but it seems they have a lot of specials that you can take advantage of. The service was solid(considering we were 1 of 4 tables there) and food came out relatively quickly. Overall positive experience. I’m really sad that we didn’t know it was BYOB before trying it but just another excuse to go back! =)

Teriyaki Chicken is perhaps my favorite but because it’s a sushi restaurant, I will go for the Alaskan Roll. It’s buy one get one free. Décor is cute and service is nothing to complain about. They do a great job getting the food out quickly and love how they greet you the second you walk in. True, authentic sushi, great quality! Corner location just off of Arlington Road next to Domino’s Pizza and near Baskin Robins. RECOMMENDATION: for a limited time only, Amazon Local is having a special. $ 20 for $ 40 gift certificate. $ 40 of food for $ 20 is unbeatable, especially for the quality of food. This is what brought us in.

SUSHIYUCKY! Not the best name… but the food here is good, It’s not my favorite, but hey, good sushi is actually hard to find. I forgot what roll I had. It was pretty simple. The service here is pretty nice and they like to give away free dishes sometimes so we can try other things on the menu. I like.
