When a mistake is made, the least a company can do is apologize. Instead, the owner, Greg Hyatt, denied any responsibility and scolded me for complaining. I was shipped an item that was missing a very necessary part, so I wrote to Hyatt’s to see if they could send me the part. All they would do is tell me to contact Amazon because the item was shipped from an Amazon warehouse. Greg Hyatt could also have simply shipped me a replacement item(it cost less than $ 10) from his own warehouse in New York. He could have put the customer first, but instead displayed an attitude that said, «We don’t make mistakes.» The first reply I received from«Sara» at Hyatt’s was polite, even though the person said they wouldn’t do anything about it. I wrote back and commented that they should take responsibility for their product. Things could have ended there. But no: Greg Hyatt had to write to scold me and acted very defensive and indignant that someone would even dare to suggest his company made a mistake. I had questioned whether Hyatt’s sent the item to the Amazon warehouse without the needed part. As a customer, how am I to know who is being careless — the third-party seller or someone in the Amazon warehouse? I will never know. I have been a third-party seller on Amazon myself for more than 15 years, and I don’t have the Amazon warehouses ship my products, precisely because, as a seller, you have no control over how your product is handled; you lose control over part of your customer’s experience. Even if someone else is shipping your product, you are still the seller, and for a company to not be willing apologize or take any responsibility whatsoever is unacceptable. This was an inexpensive item, but it was something I needed. Amazon ended up refunding my money without requiring me to return the product. The Amazon reps I spoke to overseas were a thousand percent more polite than Greg Hyatt. If anyone at Hyatt’s had simply apologized for inconveniencing me, that would have gone a long way. But instead, I got a snippy and indignant reply from the owner. One must question how they will treat you in the event of a mistake. I will never buy anything from Hyatt’s — online or in person — again.

My beef with this store is not so much what is inside. Although their stock is over priced, and their staff are a bit off putting at times. I’ve been made to feel like the staff was mocking me more than once. Perhaps not maliciously, but sometimes unfunny teasing, is just teasing. Again, I was not offended, but it certainly made me feel awkward. My real problem with Hyatt is how they treat the community around them. While their listed address is Main St. They get all their traffic through North Pearl St, which is where I live. Their shipping and receiving is on North Pearl st., so me and my neighbors who work from home are stuck listening to trucks beep and honk all day while they make deliveries. Along with some mysterious weekday 5am truck that makes huge crashing sounds for 15 minutes straight and wakes everyone up. On top of that they have 18 wheelers almost daily backing up in to the lot, and due to the limited space our tiny residential street affords, they have consistently ripped branches off the trees. The trucks also cause traffic congestion as they block the street for 15 minutes trying to get just the right angle to back up and drop off a tiny box. When my neighbors asked them to try to get smaller trucks to do all their deliveries they were completely ignored. When I confronted them they gave me a pretentious response about how they’ve been here 50 years and I don’t know anything about this area. Having read the other reviews its clear that if you go in and buy what you want you’ll probably have an okay experience aside from over paying. But similar to the other negative review, the moment you need to deal with the company itself, you’ll be treated like garbage.

Oh my GOD!!! I am going to have to limit my visits here because I will go broke. Art, art, art. Great gifts. Wonderful staff. I have been wasting my time driving to Michael’s when this not-so-little gem of a store was right under my nose. If you need inspiration to draw, paint, craft, go here.

I am not often in need of art or craft supplies. This means that I am always fumbling around trying to figure out what I need. The staff at Hyatt’s makes that process easy for me. They are always super helpful about what I would need for a project and remind me of the things that I have failed to think about. The prices are comparable to other chain craft stores but they have a wider range of higher quality products that just aren’t carried in those stores. They also have a creative and knowledgable staff to help make any project perfect. The location is easy to find with a back entrance and parking. It is always a fantastic experience when I go and it leaves me wanting to do more creative projects.

I came to the store looking to buy adhesive for a craft project I was working on that just didn’t seem to stick. I had already tried 2 other products that I purchased from Jo-Anne’s Fabrics but it wasn’t working. I was greeted as soon as I walked in the door and the staff were very helpful. We discussed the project, the materials I was using, and they even educated me on why the adhesive I had previously purchased didn’t work for my purposes. They also directed me to a very easy and inexpensive solution(spray adhesive) that was a better fit for my needs and my experience(and patience) level. lol

Jon was engaging and generous. He encouraged us to test different options for art supplies and made us feel welcome. Wish we lived in the area, but we’ll support it when we visit Buffalo. Thanks Jon!

If you need any sort of art or creative supply, Hyatts is the place. Somehow I missed Hyatts when I was growing up. It was not a place I came to often, if ever. I have«discovered» it in the past 2 years and have been there for so many different things now, and again earlier today. The one on Main Street, downtown Buffalo is huge. It has pens, painting materials, kids things, fabulous puzzles, «make your own card» stock and so much more. They have a nice collection of high end pens as well as all the different kids of drawing ones, large and small tip, whatever you may need. The people who work here are also super nice and helpful. They have ideas and can offer good suggestions. Or, if you just want to browse, you can do that as well.

In Jan 2011, I took a class called Texture in Graphite II with Bob Castleman. He was such an amazing teacher and mad eyou look at texture in a completely different way. There were only about 5 people in the class so there was a lot of individualized attention. A bit pricer than community ed art classes, the quality totally makes up for it. The only thing that I would caution someone about is that the teacher/students assume you will be working on your project for several hours outside of class. Also, the supplies list that you see when you initially sign up for a class is totally negotiable. The staff who works the front of the store is incredibly knowledgable about art supplies so if you have any questions, feel free to ask specific questions about materials.

I’ve been shopping here for years and am always happy with the service and selections. The staff is great! Not only are they knowledgeable, but they are all very friendly. Every time you walk in, someone greets you & is ready to help. They have helped us before with numerous community art events and seem to really care about their neighborhood. It’s inspiring. Yes, you might save some money by going to the burbs to get stuff from a national chain, but if you did a comparison, after gas, it’s really all the same. Not to mention how important it is to support smaller, local businesses! I love having a shop like this right here in the city. Don’t forget to sign up for the their mailing list and get great sale tips and coupons.

I had a terrible experience with this very unprofessional store. I ordered $ 176 worth of paint which I never received. Hyatt’s not only refused to re-fill the order but put me through the run-around. For the last few weeks I have been emailing and calling them to ask for the status but they kept making excuses with me-«investigating the situation» They decided«we are both victims” — since USPS left it in my entryway. DONOTBUYFROMTHISSTORE because if your package is lost somehow, you will pay the price!
