We travel all over the US, most frequently both the West coast and Northeast. We really enjoy Vietnamese foods and while there are literally thousands to choose from, we have a few notables. The weekend of a very frigid Friday, February 26th we went to our very favorite phở restaurant in the Burlington area. Phở Hong is a small and very busy restaurant. Again we were greeted by our usual busy waiters who are hustling to make sure one’s wait is not too long(often it can be-which speaks of the good food) serving up the variety of Vietamese phở and meals. To be expected, our food was well prepared and delicious. I enjoy phở and every restaurant varies on the basic broth taste. At Phở Hong the broth has an excellent balance of spices and cooking time that brings out the best in taste. We have been taking the 2.5 hour drive from Saratoga for many years to dine at this, what we consider Vermont’s very best in Vietnamese food. We finally salute you in public… thank you… it’s worth our drive.

Only place out in Vermont that I’ve found that has Bo luc loc, and yes it is awesome. I also had the Phở and spring rolls and nothing has disappointed yet. Now I know why this place is always packed, the food here is on point, the servers are very upbeat and cordial and the atmosphere is very homely.

Great Thai food, reasonably priced. Friendly service. Usually there is a wait, but we’ve never waited more than 20 minutes. BYOB, which is great. The only dish I haven’t loved is the«crêpe» but my husband had a pint when he said I shouldn’t have ordered as crêpe at a Thai place!

I count myself extremely lucky that this was the first restaurant I visited in Burlington, and boy did it make for a good introduction to my new home. I suppose I have reviewed Phở Hong yet because I am overwhelmed by how many positive things I have to say about it. The food is fresh, quality, delicious, and well-priced. The atmosphere is clean, funky, and inviting. A long wait for dinner is not uncommon, but the fact that the restaurant is BYOB and you can sip your wine as you wait makes the cozy queue area just another part of the fun.

You’ve got to get there early or wait a long time for a table but it is SO worth it. Vietnamese Curry with Sweet Potato is to die for

The food was amazing but the service was terrible! We were in Burlington for a day visit from Montréal and went here based on the Unilocal reviews. We spent so much time in line and waiting for our food. All we ordered was soup and it took close to an hour for it to come out. This place is completely in over it’s head. Their kitchen is way too small for the amount of orders that they are trying to pump out. There seemed to be a huge focus on getting the take our orders ready rather than the people who were actually sitting in the restaurant. The waitress didn’t seem to care and just come around one time. After she dropped off our food we never saw her again at our table until we asked her for the bill. Good food but horrible wait time and service.

Oh my goodness such a long long long wait. We had six people in total and they allowed a group of three and a group of two to sit before us… really hope they could optimize this more efficiently. Everyone opted for the phở tai nam, the traditional rice noodle soup with meatball and cooked beef. Without considering msg factor, the soup base was delicious! Actually I would strongly suggest the fried tofu and liked their dipping soy sauce!

Phở Hong is consistently great. I went on their opening day years ago and they have done nothing but consistently improve since. I am a serious devotee of their rice noodle dishes, mostly I get the grilled chicken but the pork is excellent as well. Chicken or beef phở is always a safe bet, it’s always just spot on and satisfying in that way that only a great bowl of soup can be. The spring rolls(non-fried) are unassuming but good, egg rolls could use a little work as the texture of the filling is a bit mealy. Spicy squid cooked in a clay pot is a deluge of heat and Asian chives, simple and delicious. Honestly, I haven’t had a bad dish there. As for the staff, they seem to have some sort of super human ability to keep up with the throngs of hungry customers. Sometimes there’s only one server working(lunch usually) the whole dining room, plus the outside tables, plus takeout, but they somehow get all the food out to its proper place. It’s kind of an astonishing and dumbfounding feat. Don’t be surprised it there’s a wait, but it’s worth it.

Phở is good, but our favorite is actually the roast meats over rice noodles(dishes like Bún tht nng). Prices are extremely reasonable, and service is usually good.

You may have to wait a while to get a table but this place has AMAZING food so it’s worth the wait, for sure. We had the spring rolls with shrimp for an app. They were fresh, very tasty and come with a good sauce with peanut crumbles. For dinner we ordered the Panang Curry. This is the best Panang Curry either of us had ever tried. Filled with yellow squash, carrots, red bell peppers, slivered lemongrass and meat of your choice in the yummiest coconut curry broth with a side of rice. We also ordered the Japanese Eggplant sauté which was fabulous! Eggplant, lots of garlic, carrots, green beans, onions, bell peppers, basil, green onions and your choice of meat with rice or noodles. We were SO happy with this place that we are going to go back before we leave the area. Give it a try if you can, you won’t be disappointed :) Also, BYOB so just bring a few beers or some wine and drink that while you wait for your table :) Second time: just as impressed! We started with the tiger rolls which are like an egg roll filled with cream cheese and shrimp-very simple but super yummy! Then we got the #8 Phở which was delish! It had a much better broth than other phos that I’ve had. We also got the lemongrass shrimp(cooked in clay pot) which was SO flavorful. The veggies on the side were just steamed but healthy and nice looking. If I’m ever in Burlington again I’m definitely going back here :) A little TIP: if you don’t want a long wait come here for lunch!

This review is for service only. I’ve been standing here for over 2 hours now. We were waiting for a table outside and couldn’t sit inside because of our dog. We were quoted 30 minutes. After an hour I gave up and ordered take away. I’m still waiting for it. Please give me a realistic wait time. If it was one hour I would’ve skipped it. We flew across the country to visit with family. They are going to go to bed by the time we get home. I’m not happy to have wasted 1 of the 4 nights we were supposed to spend with them waiting over 2 hours to eat. We asked for a refund and they didn’t give us one.

In my heart of hearts, I’d like to do nothing all day but hang out here and eat. The neatly wrapped spring rolls, the perfectly spiced sauces, the freshness of all the veggies and meat in every entrée — I could go on. We simply love going here and nothing compares. Quality has been consistent and prices too — this is our standard. And if I win the lottery(I don’t play, ah well) you’ll find me here, hanging out and eating happily for the rest of my existence. Pro tip: Don’t go if you’re in a heavy rush. This isn’t that kind of place. It’s a family operation and it will require adult style patience. We’ve seen people become disgruntled because they couldn’t «save» a table with only two people actually present while waiting for their party of 10 to trickle in sporadically. This is popular eat for good reason. Be respectful and reasonable, and you will be amply rewarded.

Incredible value, great flavor, sure to be a staple for me over the next couple of months(especially when it starts to get chilly). Tonight we tried menu items #1(fried spring rolls with veggies and pork), #7(beef phở + veggies), and #20(chili and soy stir-fry with beef). It was about $ 25 all together. Counter service was friendly. The phở was so, so good – I just moved here from a place that had almost no Vietnamese options, so I’m really happy to have discovered this spot. I called in my order for take-out and I’m glad I did, because it was super crowded when we arrived. Will probably end up eating here a couple of times a month!

I landed in Burlington tired and battling a cold — — in walks the perfect remedy: a high rated phở eatery within walking distance of my downtown Burlington hotel with carryout. I was literally still on the plane as I place my order for chicken phở and vegetarian spring rolls.(perfection) Both were very delicious and just what I needed. I’m beginning to consider myself a phở/spring roll expert(should I be admitting this?), so take my word for it dear reader. Note: if you’re looking to eat in, the space is very cute. Also, the owner/head guy at the counter was very friendly. We chatted about their killer reviews on Unilocal Can’t wait for my next visit.

My bf and I were on our way to Montréal when we decided to make a spontaneous pit stop in Vermont to grab some lunch. We stumbled into Phở Hong based on other Unilocal reviews and they were definitely right. This place had amazing food and my bf who is obsessed with phở claims this was the best he’s ever had. The service was excellent and the restaurant was very clean. The biggest disappointment though was that we purposely drove here on our way back from Montréal so we could eat their phở again, but I guess on Sundays they are closed from 4−5pm…

How have I never been here before! I had the Thai tea, what a sweet treat. Then we had the egg rolls and spring rolls, super fresh and nice. I chose the Vietnamese curry with pork. It was amazing! Great service, kitchen was clean and I can’t wait to go back!

We came here for dinner around 6 – 7 and the place was packed. There was a long line, but the turn over was fairly quick. We ordered the fresh rolls and the fried rolls. The fresh rolls were good. Lots of vegetables and meat. The fried rolls were okay. I was surprised at how skinny/tiny they were. They were served with sweet and sour sauce instead of traditional fish sauce which was odd, but wasn’t bad. My boyfriend ordered the phở with flank steak and meatballs. I ordered the stir fried squid/calamari with herbs. Both dishes were pretty good and flavorful. If you’re not a spicy eater, remember to ask them to tone it down. I asked for mine to be less spicy and it was still pretty spicy. The thai ice tea was a little water down, but their coconut cream pie was yummy! Service was great. All the servers were quick, friendly, and attentive. Worth the try & we would return to try other dishes if we are in the area!
