The chicken chile relleno was delicious. Wait staff was very friendly, greeted us and seated us quickly. The chips and salsa were good. My husband had the green chicken enchiladas and they were very good too. We make the trip from Dallas to The Hill Country quite often and this will be one of our stopping places in the future. Drinking water is filtered. Definitely recommend this place.

It was a sad, sad day indeed when this place closed down for good a few weeks ago. We are literally devastated by the loss of this uniquely fine eating and drinking establishment. I couldn’t believe my own eyes when I saw them liquidate everything on the premises via online auction. I can’t emphasize enough how much of a void has been created by the shutting down of this nourishment mecca. It is with utter shock and disappointment that I am forced against my will to bid farewell once and for all to the almighty«Smoked BBQ Brisket Quesadilla» in all its ever-lovin’ glory. It will reign supreme in my mind, however, forever. Good bye, Max!(Please reopen someday/somewhere!)

I am really bummed this place was forced to close. It was my favorite place in Burnet. The Angels on Horseback will be missed. The service was excellent.

Excellent service to our large table of 6 adults and 5 children. This is the kind of place I would go to over and over until I tried everything on the menu. It was that good! We went early on a Friday evening(5pm) and it was very crowded by the time we left.

Ordered Angels on Horseback, 6 succulent jumbo shrimp stuffed with Monterrey jack cheese a slice of jalapeño and wrapped in bacon. we went when it was in the little house back in burnet. Great mixed drinks as well.

Never got the food and ended up leaving. Service is nonexistent and when done, performed by personnel who exceed all standards for rudeness. And, don’t dare ask about their WIFI services while on site. Most at this is small town hill billy restaurant can’t spell wifi. Absolutely clueless. This restaurant does not prove WIFI services to their patrons! Shameful The entire restaurant has a dirty feel to it inside. The bar reeks of uncleaned sinks smells. What makes matters worses, when the owner inquired about our horrible experience, he himself became argumentative and very unprofessional. Literally flew in too a shouting rage and stormed off! other Burnet restaurants care alot more about their customers!

Visited this place for the 1st time but everyone else had been there a few times and loved it. It was Labor Day weekend and they were busy and we showed up with a party of 20(we made a reservation). We got seated in a private room which was too warm but they tried to close the curtains to help. They had the water ready and waiting but rather then serving it so we could enjoy chips and water while waiting on drinks, she took the drink order for everyone who then asked for water with their order. After several people asking(because they didn’t hear the person before) the waitress snapped at one of the girls. A few of us got up and got our own waters, she served the rest of them then went and placed our drink order. Those drinks came out pretty fast then she disappeared. People got pretty frustrated and finally someone snapped and demanded for someone to taker order. She finally took our orders. It took a while to get our food. We finally got our food and it was delicious, everyone loved it. Might I also add everyone loved their drinks too. The margaritas were amazing! We got the chicken nachos(not with fajitas chicken but the other chicken) and those were great and a large portion. Unfortunately by then we were all so tired and put out that we didn’t do dessert(and we always do dessert). Overall we will go back but hope its cooler and things don’t take as long.

Absolutely love the grilled half and half. It’s catfish and shrimp together with sweet potato fries and grilled zucchini and yellow squash. Great flavor and perfect portion. My new favorite dish!!!

We waited for over fifteen minutes for our food to come out… then, after those fifteen minutes the waiter informed us that they didn’t have all the ingredients to make my wife’s meal… at which point I asked why it would take so long to find that out… he said the kitchen didn’t tell him… the kitchen is connected to the dining area! That’s the epidemy of lack of communication! Then, in some weird way to make it better? I guess? He brought out another waitress to say the same thing! It didn’t help! Avoid this place if you can!

I gave 4 stars because the rice was kinda dry. I enjoyed the fajitas in my tacos the beans were cooked just right. I was surprised by the bbq brisket my wife had it exceptional. We had made a visit to Lockhart this week to try some of the famous bbq places there. Well this bbq is as competitive to those places. The meat was moist and very flavorful. It had a great smoky flavor I would give it 5 stars with it alone.

We stopped here on our way back home to Dallas from touring the Hill Country. We were a little burned out on German food so Mexican sounded great. This was a great pick. I couldn’t decide between Mexican food or BBQ because our waitress said their BBQ was amazing. So I asked if I could get a taco salad with brisket instead of taco meat. It was a great choice getting a little of both. The brisket was delicious, just the right amount of smoke and very tender. Mix that with the crispy taco bowl and guacamole and cheese OMG deliciousness! This place has it going on.

Food was good and the service was attentive and friendly. Portions are good sized to huge, especially if you go with«The Mule» burrito. My brother ordered it and it looked like they put a tree trunk on his plate! It was unbelievably large… but my brother downed it. We were impressed… I’d stop in again if I were in the area.

Came here when I was in town visiting my parents and was very impressed. I got the fajita salad which was delicious but not before I enjoyed a bowl of Queso! amazing. I also liked that they had bbq and I had a bite of my mom’s enchiladas– yum! Next time I visit I will insist we come back.

The chips are awesome and the salsa is great. It’s a clean restaurant with a friendly staff. I had the the Chile Relleno and it is not prepared in a traditional manner. It is prepared as shown in a photo above. I ordered this dish despite me knowing this because I wanted to taste there spin on one of my favorite dishes. The flavor of the filling was very good and tasty, but they failed to roast and remove the skin from the chile. This simple but skipped step ruined the dish for me. Roasting the chile gives the dish a warm flavor and removing the skin is very important so that the person enjoying the chile doesn’t have to pull it off while eating the chile. Who told the cook it is ok to not peel the chile? Sandra Lee? The rice and beans were horrible and that’s coming from a person who uses Bushes pinto beans when cooking Mexican food at home.

By far one of the best places to have Tex-Mex in the area. The food is definitely worth the price(on average $ 8 – 10 a plate) and the service is awesome! We drive 40 miles round-trip to have dinner here once a week. I recommend it to anyone. Pros: food consistency, service, atmosphere Cons: Bathrooms are unisex

My group was trying to decide between Mexican food, BBQ or Homestyle for dinner. A local suggested we head over to The Maxican. I’m glad they did because there was something for everyone. I went with BBQ and it was outstanding. The good came out fast. An older lady came by said hello to us and them proceeded to give each if us a back rub. Not a massage but rubbed each of us on the back. We didn’t know what to think. I wasn’t sure if she even worked there or not. We are guessing she’s an owner and this is her way if giving everyone a personal touch. It was odd but a sweet thing. If its a tradition than they should play it up as its quite unique I will certainly be back as the food was great and the service fast and friendly.

Great place to eat in Burnet. This family-run eatery is casual and welcoming, while consistently producing quality BBQ, Tex-Mex & sandwiches. Today I had my one of my favorites — The Perfect Combination! This consisted of ½ rack of BBQ ribs, accompanied by 4 large bacon wrapped grilled shrimp stuffed with peppers & cheese. These are called Angels on Horseback and were served on a bed of Spanish rice with some melted butter to dunk the shrimp in. A cup of home made slaw completed this meal. As usual, I had to take most of the ribs home to be finished later after the shrimp have a chance to settle. My wife selected the ½ & ½ platter — ½ fried shrimp & ½ fried catfish with seasoned waffle fries and slaw. The cornmeal based breading manages to be delicate, yet still very crispy. which is why she really likes this dish. Beer & margaritas are available, with several specialty margaritas to choose from.

Well I’m a little partial as it’s a family run business(mine) but it’s my favorite restaurant in Texas. The BBQ is a must try, they cook it right, cut it right, and serve it hot. The sausage is also great! I wish I could try a little of everything when I visit. The angels on horseback(bacon wrapped shrimp dipped in cheese) are simply amazing. Beer, wine and margaritas and their speciality margaritas are to die for. Lastly they have the BEST Tres Leches Cake in the NATION. Period. My fiancée and I try it everywhere we can and nothing has EVER come close.

Anybody up for a free back rub? Thought you would be interested as one of the staff known as Grandma offers them up while you dive into various Hill Country and Tex-Mex creations. For Burnet, The Maxican is a home run. I heard thru the grapevine that the owners are former Pappacitos staffers. That knowledge sat a certian benchmark in my mind about the food. A friend and I shared combination fajitas; first item missing was the skin on the breasts that makes the«cito SO good. The beefy portion of the plate was tender, flavorful, and tons of peppers and onions. Rice and beans were passable. Parking was easy, service included catering two toddlers every whim was worthy. My back was refreshed and the grub was acceptable. Solid dining for Burnet folks, thankful that good Tex-Mex places are everywhere in my hood
