We sent my 18 year old to New Life Lodge. She has a heroin addiction and was kicked out of a «posh» place out in California for using while there. That experience was horrible, and we decided to keep her a little closer to home, in case something else happened and we had to get to her quickly again. Thankfully, her experience at New Life was very positive. The people there clearly are experienced. Her treatment was excellent. The facility itself is pretty simple. It’s remote; they don’t allow cell-phones or computer use; and they don’t have a lot of «outings»…for my daughter, that all meant no opportunity to get drugs. She did her own laundry, ate cafeteria style and played a lot of cards and foosball. She shared a community phone, but if I needed to call in for her, I just called the nurse’s area and they would have her call me back. The communication with her case manager was fine. People there always returned my calls and emails and they seemed very knowledgeable about my financial and insurance questions. They set up after-care appointments for her for when she returned home. Overall, it was a very good experience for us, very healing. My daughter stayed an extra week because, as she described it, it felt“safe” and she made a lot of friends there. I would have given it 5 stars, but I was a little uncomfortable with the level of interaction that was allowed between the males/females; I would have preferred to see a «hands off» policy with that type of thing.
