Disclaimer: I’m basing this review on camping visits to several State Parks compared to Mitchell. During the«busy time» for Michigan State Parks across the board, Mitchell had sites available. Lots of sites. I hadn’t been here before but that should’ve been a clue. It’s nearly impossible to get a site at the more, umm, traditional parks without substantial advance purchase or hopping on someone’s cancellation. Mitchell is located on a fairly busy section of M115. Think«Burger King at the entrance» of the grounds busy. Traffic up and down M115 all day, all night. Police sirens, ambulances, thumping stereos, Harleys. All night. The map we saw online prior to booking suggested there were woods along the south west section of the park. Not the case. It’s a party store, gas station, Burger King. Other than those drawbacks it was a lot like other parks. The lakeside was pretty… Many people fishing and some had great luck while we were there. Restrooms acceptable compared to others, showers yucky — just like the others. There are a lot better parks for your hard-earned dollars. Aloha, Ludington, Wilderness, Young, both Higgins Lake facilities. I may go back to Mitchell one day but certainly not to camp… Just fishing.
