Recently moved to Calhoun and this was the first gym I tried. Possibly the worst experience I have had at any gym in 20 years. On day two of my 3 day trial, I left completely disgusted with no intention of returning. The staff are so «socially engaged» with each other and their loitering friends at the desk that I had to interrupt their conversation to ask about membership after standing in front of them for 5 minutes. Having finally gotten their attention, the brief and disinterested explanation made it clear I had inconvenienced them as they hardly made eye contact while continuing their previous conversation in between the one word replies to my questions. No exaggeration: the first words spoken to me in this gym were«you need something?». This experience was repeated every time I asked for a towel or for them to replace disinfectant cloths which had long been empty. To that point, Firehouse Gym is filthy. I wiped a bench down after using it to find a towel covered in grime and hair and the locker room smells worse than any high-school football field house I’ve ever been in. Members do not clean equipment after use or return weights when finished because they are apparently not made aware that they should. The equipment in the gym is long overdue for replacement. Free-weight implements are rusty with torn vinyl on the benches and the elliptical machine I used squeaked and scraped through 40 minutes of intervals(the first one I tried reset itself after 5 minutes). An impressive building with great attention to «décor» suggest that they thought out their marketing plan and target demographic. That said, Firehouse is poorly operated and absolutely failing in customer experience, well below expectations set from their fees which are above market average.
