If you find yourself up Cambridge Way, either for a lovely summer weekend on the lake, to visit the racetrack, or to see the leaves turning, call Ed at 1847 Guest House. The lovely converted schoolhouse(yes, built in 1847!) is a two bedroom cottage with a lovely kitchen(gas stove). The décor is eclectic, and Ed has a collection of antiques in his garage that he’s willing to show(and sell, if you’re interested!) The cost of lodging there was literally HALF as expensive as the cheapest places nearby — we paid $ 70 a night, and off season small rooms at Rice Mansion were $ 140 a night for something way smaller. On top of that, Ed has a paddleboat as well as a dock and life-vests that are completely available to guests. Stellar, stellar place, very local, and very little known. I highly recommend it. Thanks for a wonderful weekend, Ed!!!
