I LOVE Mexican food and it is one of my favorite cuisines. I have been to great Mexican places in Chicago, Tijuana, San Diego and even remote parts of Colorado. My criteria for good Mexican food is pretty simple: relatively inexpensive, great portions, and great hearty and/or spicy flavors. With that guide, most Mexican places I have been to in the Boston area are mediocre at best. Unfortunately, Beantown Taqueria is no exception. It is definitely not the worst I have had, but not the best. The restaurant itself is somewhat a hole in the wall, which honestly doesn’t affect me if the food is amazing. There was ample seating even though it was a little small and there was an island in the middle of the dining area with utensils and sauces. I ordered the«Super Burrito» and while it was enough, it definitely was not super in size. I may be a slightly bigger eater, but I don’t see anyone having a problem finishing this burrito with ease. It also cost $ 8 and if I were to compare it to a Chipotle burrito, its about ¾ smaller and the same price. I ordered half Lengua and half ground beef and they didn’t charge me extra for it so I appreciated that, but I barely noticed any Lengua in my burrito. My friend ordered 3 tacos and they looked pretty decent, but since we are in Boston, the cost wasn’t that cheap. We also had a side of chips and salsa that looked and tasted like any regular store bought chips. I hope I haven’t complained too much, but in summary this is a place that if a friend really wanted to go to, I would go again, but I would never see myself craving for it.

I ordered a chicken burrito and chicken fajitas for delivery at 10:07pm. It said that the order would be delivered at 11:19, which was long but whatever. I called the place at 11:32 and the person on the phone told me that the delivery was already on the way. At 11:55 I called again and someone else picked up the phone and told me that they were just leaving now. At this point, I was pissed. They didn’t arrive until 12:18 when the restaurant was only 8 minutes away by car. Finally, I open it up to see that they gave me a completely wrong order. It was a shrimp burrito that was cold and seriously mediocre and some shrimp tacos which were also cold and terrible. This place is awful. I would give it zero stars if I could.

Stopped by after visiting the MIT museum a few weeks ago. My tacos were delicious — got one each of carnitas, carne asada, and chicken, and was impressed. Really good and authentic-tasting tortillas at a decent price for Boston.

OMG! LEGIT! The tortillas are hand made TOORDER. DELICIOUS. Cheap. Plentiful. Loved their mexican take on a pupusa — the Huarache. With pork. SOOO Delicious. Bye bye weight watchers… Order take out. Order to stay in(small hole in the wall). Order to eat in the car. Or the street. The food is FANTASTIC!

We took a delivery from there as we both love spicy Mexican food. 1. The Food was delicious and i would like to order again. 2. It was perfectly spicy(exactly the way we wanted) and loved the way it was cooked. One of the best takeouts we have ordered so far. 3. Love the variety of food they have. 4. Ingredients were fresh. 5. Price was reasonable. 6. The delivery time is very long. It took over an hour to get our food.

I feel like for Mexican food here on the East Coast, this place is decent. I ordered a chimichanga and it was nice and crispy. The carnitas was a little bit dry though and I do wish they would include some sort of salsa with it to balance out the beans/rice. I was a little annoyed at the service. I ordered online and walked straight to the counter when I arrived. The lady there was on her phone(texting or something) and I expected her to either help me or tell me to hang on a second. She said nothing and stayed on her phone for another 2 minutes or so with no word to me… I’d probably go back here for a quick lunch or something but it’s nothing to write home about.

This is my new favorite taco place! I really enjoy the shredded beef tacos from here and it is made just the way I like it. So simple, but SOGOOD! I also frequently get their flan, which is delicious! I have been bringing my friends and family here when they come to visit and they also enjoy the tacos very much! I have also recently gotten their tacos delivered to me and the delivery service is very good and food is delivered warm and still very tasty!

We ordered a late dinner from Beantown Taqueria at 2:00am. When they were still MIA at 3:20, EAT24 cancelled and refunded my order. My phone woke me up at 5:00am– It was the delivery guy, who was downstairs. The restaurant had been closed for hours. I’m really confused, but hey: I got to have Mexican for breakfast!

Just saying, thank you for one of the only places in BOSTON open until 4AM on a weekend. Seriously. Had to travel here from downtown Boston just to find some latenight drunk food on a Saturday night, and I have no regrets. Thanks. Thank you. Just thank you.

Mexican food with an authentic northern feel and flavor(I’m from that area). I am a huge fan of the chiles rellenos, enchiladas with mole, and Banda music blasting at all times.

We never got our food. 3 hours and 3 calls to GrubHub later and the restaurant had closed despite multiple confirmations that our food was on the way. Epic fail. 0⁄10 will never order again

I heard positive word-of-mouth about Beantown Taqueria. A lifelong Tex-Mex devotee, I decided to check out the joint. I ordered a chicken burrito, which was both delicious and gross. How is that possible? The burrito itself boasted nice Southwestern flavors and quantities of ingredients. However, everything was packed with grease! Simply holding the burrito left my hands feeling like they were coated with thin Vaseline. My stomach was doing barrel rolls for at least two hours after paying up and leaving. I would absolutely consider coming back if Beantown eased up on the oil and lard. I realize burritos aren’t exactly light and airy food, but I’ve lived in LA, I’ve been to Mexico, and none of the burritos I ate in those places came close to being as greasy as the one I had here.

As a Mexican food aficionado from San Diego, and having spent two years in Mexico City, I was duly impressed by this taqueria. The huarache with tinga was super authentic. Dad loved his fajitas and husband loved his carnitas tacos. Bonus for offering Jarritos and Jumex beverages. Only deductions for not offering free salsa; rice lacks flavor.

Ordered chicken fajitas to go and was not disappointed! First of all, the guac is phenomenal – 5⁄5! Fresh, tangy, and delicious. Highly recommend! The place is pretty small but cozy. It definitely seems like an MIT hangout. The staff was super helpful and it took about 5 – 10 minutes for the food to be ready around 6PM on a Saturday. The portion size was okay – two tortillas, guacamole, sour cream, chicken, peppers, and onions for $ 8.56. The tortillas are medium/small size and I ran out of tortillas but still had extra meat and peppers for the next day. Next time I’ll probably order the chicken a bit spicy because it was a little bit bland, but otherwise I enjoyed everything. TIP: you can get one chicken and one steak fajita for the same price!

Damn good tacos, I have to admit that I was a bit skeptical about getting a good taco in Boston. Having ordered a carnitas taco plater with black beans and rice I was pleasantly surprised when I took my first bite and tasted some authentic flavors from the south. They use free ingredients and cook each order on the spot. No fast food flavor here. The place has limited seating, but the flavors make up for the seating issue. If you are near the MIT campus, give this joint a try.

I join the chorus of people warning you about Beantown Taqueria’s **ABYSMALDELIVERY**. Quickly scan the reviews below and take note of the sheer number of people saying their delivery times *regularly* take 2 – 3 hours. You could make a pot roast in that amount of time. YOUHAVETOREHEATYOUROWNFOOD I’ve never waited less than 90 minutes, and ordered from Beantown only when I didn’t have any other choice – and knowing just what a food desert Cambridge can be, especially past 8 pm. I just accepted that I’d need to heat their food in my convection oven before being able to eat it – even if it wouldn’t remove all of the sogginess that it arrived with. The only thing that comes warm is their salads. BREAKING(ALREADY) BADDELIVERY Tonight, Beantown broke several records. It took a whopping two-hours-and-forty-five-minutes to arrive, and that was only after I called several times. More importantly: THEYBLOCKYOURNUMBERAFTERYOURFIRSTCALL I finally figured out their strategy. They block your number(or screen your calls) after the first time you call to ask about the delay(for me right before the clock hit two hours). Every time I called after that, I got their voice mail. Notice in all the reviews below: everyone says they don’t pick up the phone after the first«it’ll just be 15 minutes, it already left» promise(which is never accurate). Testing my theory, I called back 10SECONDS later, while blocking my number(*67 on Verizon, by the way). The 15-minutes lady picked up after one ring. THEYSTRAIGHT-UPLIETOYOU In addition to lying to you about their food already being on its way – when they know it isn’t – they’re dishonest about their delivery practices. Beantown told me that EAT24 had its own driver, and that the delay was their fault. A few minutes later, I confirmed with none other than EAT24 headquarters(who called ME directly from San Francisco) that this is, in fact, false. Furthermore, the person who told me that is a long-standing employee at Beantown – so they can’t claim ignorance. I recognize this woman’s dialect of Spanish, as well as her distinctive voice, from previous orders. Because of the language barrier, I just call in Spanish to facilitate the transaction. THEYEVENSCREENEAT24’S CALLS To make matters worse, the EAT24 representative informed me that Beantown was even screening her calls. The agent, who looked up the reviews below before calling me, informed me that their regional representative would have to examine this restaurant for what appears to be pattern. THESERESTAURANTSAREN’T DOINGYOU A FAVOR You’re an adult – capable of making his or her own decisions – but I would urge you to consider not just my experience, but the dozen or more below that say some version of what I’m saying here. Every time you place another order from a place like this, without demanding at least minimally acceptable service, you reward this behavior and incentivize them to stay exactly the same. Or get worse.

This place is everything I want out of a Mexican joint. It’s no frills, friendly, and just down right good food! I’m Southern California born and raised so it’s tough to impress with Mexican food but this reminds me a lot of the mom and pop owned places I find back home. When a place has al pastor and lengua as meat options, you know it’s legit! Tacos were on point and full of flavor! It comes with 3 tacos and you can choose 3 different meats if you like. You can also upgrade to a plate(rice, beans, and chips) for a dollar. The icing on the cake was the house made horchata and jamaica. It’s a good thing this place isn’t on my usual day to day commute otherwise, I’d probably be here in every other day!

Wanted to check this place out on recommendation of a potential future colleague. I took the crosstown bus here and was easily walkable once I got off Vassar/Mass Ave. I walk in and it is a taqueria joint, with probably around seating for no more than 15 – 20 people. Most of the space is the kitchen, the cashier has a podium next to the fridge of beverages. Hot sauce used here is Valentina picante(which I really like!). I saw that they have different fillings – I got the carnitas, al pastor– and the newly offered fish and lengua. Yes, lengua. It’s been a while since I had some tongue action so I wanted to check this out. You have the option of having it either«Beantown Taqueria» way vs. «Tex-Mex»(aka«more American») way. I opted for the former, which is essentially the meat on tortilla, topped with chopped white onions and cilantro. You can have it mild, medium, or hot. I asked for medium, which was probably a mild in my palate. For 4 tacos and horchata, it was a bit on the pricey side, a little over $ 15. Three(3) tacos is typically $ 7 – 8, and if you want added beans/rice, it’s an extra $ 1. I should’ve asked them to make it a plate! You get a few lime wedges with your tacos. Beverage: horchata, which was creamier/milkier than I expected. The flavor was correct, but I would’ve watered this down even more. 3 stars. Tacos: Carnitas – pretty good! 3.5 stars Al Pastor– you can actually taste the tartness of(hopefully) marinade. 3.5 stars. Fish– grilled, really nice flavor. Probably my favorite. 4 stars. Lengua– underseasoned, so I doused it with picante sauce. Could use a longer time braising. 2 stars. Not bad, but the star of the tacos was definitely the nice, yellow corn, seemingly hand-made, tortillas. It’s pretty thick so they only used one, vs. two layers everywhere else. Difficult for me to give this place 3 vs. 4 stars, so I’m gonna give this place a 3 for now. Will reassess after I return and check out the enchiladas and other taco fillings.
