If you are on Unilocal and reading this on a Friday, what the heck is wrong with you? You should be at the Cambridge Open Market, checking out all of the amazing items that you absolutely must have. Turn off your computer and get yourself over there before it is too late. They are due to shut down for the winter at the end of October, so if you miss this experience and have to hold out until next spring, don’t blame me. You know that open plaza by the Science Building, just behind Harvard Yard?(Cambridge Street runs under it.) That’s where you’ll find this big white tent where antiques, old books and LPs, crafts, honey and coffee can be snapped up by us savvy shoppers. And right across the lawn are attentive food trucks waiting to dish out an affordable lunch. This weekly opportunity to support local artisans and businesses comes to you from the people behind SoWa. 2013 is their first year here in Cambridge, but it is such a success that it will probably not be their last. Is it Friday? Are you looking for something to do or an excuse to leave work? Looking to start the weekend early? I’ve got the solution for you. The Cambridge Open Market. Open from 11:30– 5:30 only, this is worth the trek, especially if you are in the Cambridge area. It’s right near the Red Line and lots of bus stops, but parking is a bore. Leave the car behind.

The Cambridge Open Market really is a mini-SOWA, just the local artisan and antique portion. It’s location under the tent in the Science Center Plaza right by Harvard Yard is nice and cozy. I appreciate the market because you can casually peruse through the items without being hassled. It must be the obvious appearance as a student, not a serious buyer. The items are fairly expensive. Most items are wall decorative pieces and some jewelry. There are scattered antiques throughout as well. Please note, they do sell popcorn there, but not just any kind, the fun kind that comes in pizza flavor.
