A contemporary art space that sometimes shares shows with the likes of La Jolla, MOCA Chicago, Walker Art Center, and other second-tier(non MOMA) venues. Has debuted many artists that hit the big time a decade or more later. Also has a free map of self-guided walking tours of MIT’s on-campus public art collection. Friendly staff, genuinely interested in art. Always free(donations appreciated) and open to the general public. Has public outreach, including free family-friendly events. See their website and/or sign up for their email list. Don’t try to drive there on weekdays, take the MBTA. Free parking available off-hours only.

This is the perfect spot for checking out some art on a lazy weekend day. At least this is what I did, and since the place practically consists of four galleries, it does not take very long. That said, some of the coolest stuff that I found there was audio-visual art(e.g., Hans Op de Beeck), and I found some of this so fascinating, that I stayed to watch it repeatedly.

Great exhibitions of contemporary art. Close to the Kendall Square T stop. Typically free. Sometimes there are nice opening events
