I came here for a four hour crash course on sailing on a Sunday morning with a few friends.(free for alums + 1 guest) It was really a lot of fun, the instructors are funny and lively, they eliminated any anxiety for trying out sailing for the first time. The classroom course is about 2 hours and the rest of the time we got to take a sailboat onto Charles river for a spin! We were clumsy but slowly learned the ropes as we practiced. As part of the membership, they offer sailing tours both day and nights along the Charles river, quite beautiful and unique experience.

what an awesome thing to have! if you’re a MIT Rec Member *meaning you go to the MIT gym*, you can take full advantage of the sailing pavilion. with just a 5 hour class you’re «ready» to take out a boat by yourself. you can also bring a guest along for free. you can also just go hang out there whenever you want and enjoy the awesome view. things to do: they have a 4th of july party and moonlight sailing on days close to a full moon — you have to have your sailing card though to take advantage…

if you know an MIT student who has membership at the boathouse, be sure to tag along on their next sailing trip on the charles river. on warmer days, i like to use their picnic tables to enjoy an outdoor lunch. they dont check ID if youre just using the picnic tables, so knock yourself out with the gorgeous view of boston.
