«A warm and friendly welcome with fantastic customer service. Always great, tasty food served piping hot– just the way we like it. Would definately recommend the grilled cheese. We have been many times and it has consistently exceeded our expectations.»

I had the sword fish and a shrimp taco(taco of the day). They were both delicious especially the swordfish. Brussel sprouts cooked perfectly complimenting the dish. Buttery smooth mashed potatoes was icing on the cake. Con: No fish and chips No deserts No Amex Quirky atmosphere

The Cellar is my favorite spot for a night out in the Boston area. It has great bartenders, good food and while it gets busy at times it never gets too crazy and you can hear the people you are with. It is cash only but honestly if you go there with a large group that makes it easier since you don’t have to worry about splitting a bill 6 ways.

The Columbian chefs are awesome. Sweet meals, reasonable prices, very good tacos of day, especially. Deserves a much bigger following! I love the pasta of the day. The service is super friendly and fast, if that is what you want, but they also let you sit and enjoy for hours. for the price, could be 5 star.

I love this underground(literally) bar. Great beer, and always welcoming and friendly. Greg us a wonderfully friendly bartender. The food is also excellent. This quickly became my regular go-to bar.

Food is good, service is usually good, portions can be small. Cozy in the cold winter.

One of my favorite bars. The bartenders are absolutely awesome. Everything is classic and simple. It’s cash only, which I think is great, but be aware(there’s ATMs within walking distance). If you just want a bar, this is perfect. If you want to sip pretentious craft cocktails and nibble gluten free apps, go somewhere else.

Good food, but very limited selection, burger seems to be the most popular choice. The service was pretty quick when not too many people were there.

I live right around the corner from The Cellar and needed a low-hassle spot for dinner one night with my dad and roommate. This was the perfect spot for what we were looking for! I got a terrific, perfectly dressed salad with beets, some sort of caramelized nuts(pecans? can’t remember) and goat cheese, my dad had a Rueben sandwich which looked really good, and my roommate got the gazpacho and one of the night’s special tacos. For the table we got the parmesan truffle fries which were definitely the hit of the night — so crispy and delicious! We sat upstairs(not sure what the deal is exactly with the two levels I think?) and it was very nice and quiet with just us and a couple other tables of people. Overall, a very nice spot for a casual, quiet dinner. I might not go way out of my way to eat here but if you’re looking for something in the area, I would recommend it.

I love The Cellar! I came here a bunch during college and always had a great meal and a nice time. The food is really good — lots of comfort food type options. I’m a big fan and highly recommend.

Sadly, I did not check Unilocal before heading to the Cellar, or rather the former Garden at the Cellar. It is now open, but a shell of its former self. Basic menu, bland food and a waitress(upstairs) who seemed to be «mailing it in.» Even the burger and truffle fries weren’t as good — average at best. It was also pretty empty on a night when all the spots down the street had waits. Last summer I had one of the best dishes I had all summer here(a local, seasonal salad), so I’m really sad for the loss of this formerly great local foodie spot!

As I write this review, I have tears in my eyes… for alas, it’s a few days too late. This much loved restaurant is now CLOSED due to a dispute with the establishment’s landlord. So I write this review to respect what once was. One of my favorite staples in Central Square, this place had the best Cellar burgers with truffle fries. The burger was perfectly cooked with a plump and juicy handmade patty featuring locally raised beef. Vermont cheddar and aioli sauce dripped from underneath its slightly toasted bun and arugula added just the perfect texture to round it out. Dare you hunger for more you could order a side of their Housemade Tots, which resembled mini potato croquettes more than your cafeteria variety. Complementing this wonderful meal, one could always count on The Cellar’s modest but satisfying beer selection on tap. I shall miss you my dear friend. Thanks for the memories!

I came here a few months back. I got a burger and a beer. The burger was very tasty, best I’ve had in the area. Good meat, good toppings. The beer list was decent. Staff was friendly, even though they were opening in the middle of a snow storm. The burger was a little pricey in my opinion, even though it’s probably the best I’ve had in the Boston area. I lived in Philly for several years, and the food scene there is just amazing, so it’s hard not to be a bit disappointed. That said, I liked this place, and if I weren’t a student, I’d probably come here again.

Punches of flavor. incredibly seasoned food. probably the best fried chicken I had in a long time and scallops cooked to perfection! The atmosphere is nice at the cellar as well. dark and intimate! The drinks were nothing special but the food definitely made up for it! Up there with Green street as the best restaurant in the central square area!

I popped in the other day and had their mini burgers and some truffle fries. Very tasty meal and the service was good. I’m looking forward to going back in the Fall/Winter for the grilled cheese and tomato soup.

Love it! Absolutely love it :) Whenever we pass this restaurant we see that, the place is crowded. So on a Thursday evening, me and husband thought about going for a date night there… They don’t take reservation, so we called and they said that they have plenty seats. We hit there and ordered a sweet cider for me and two beers for my husband. They both were good. We ordered Rosemary-Truffle Fries, mushroom crostini, mini burger, sweet corn and animal style burger. Food were very much fresh, warm and flavorful. I must say all food were finger licking good — and totally in love with their food. Not to mention the drinks perfect. Ambience was good, waitress was very much helpful and explained the foods in the menu. I would love to go back again for another date night with my husband.

Let’s just say I am always unsatisfied by burger buns when dining at casual/fine dining restaurants because I’m a bun snob. They’re either too big, too spongy, too dry, too sesame seedy, and forbid it, god, un-toasted. Ick! To my surprise, the Cellar does buns right. My bf got a burger and pork bun, I got a couple sliders(burger and lobstah), and we were pretty happy with it all. It’s all in the freakin’ bread. The bun was so light, slightly toasty, and fluffy… I just don’t know how they do it. Is it a potato bun? Is it a pretzel bun? I JUSTDON’T KNOW. What I do know is that it’s absolutely delicious — and I foresee some more exciting bun biting action in my not to distant future at the Cellar. So. Good.

Octopus tentacle ramen with clams and stuff was like eating a bowl full of sea monsters. A little salty, but full of pork and seafood and noodles, all great. Rosemary truffle fries were simply fantastic. A huge bowl full of rosemary fried goodness, which I for some reason thought would come out covered in cheese but was light and delicate and perfectly crispy. The pork bun was also scrumptious with the pork inside chewy and gooey but also crispy and nicely browned. One of the better pork buns I’ve had. The ambiance is pretty mellow, but I kind of had a problem with the tables. The low table was too low and the high table was too high. The music on Sunday night was super gentle I-want-to-kill-myself white boy music. My small group did talk to a nice former Mormon couple. A few drinks in, I raised my glass to congratulate the dude for being a former Mormon and he looked at me seriously and said«how about we not toast to that?» I’m not from around here, ya’ll. Was that a rude thing to say? Cash only and worth it. I’ll be back.

the fries here are amazing! Definitely should order this! There is a cheap $ 3 beer. beets sliders doesn’t have much taste — so I wouldn’t order it again. Would like to go back and try other items on the menu — they have some interesting options.
