I came here for Saturday brunch and got the frittata with greens. I know, I know, I was obviously trying to eat healthy after eating out all week. But the food was tasty and I cleaned off the whole plate. My friends got the fried chicken and waffle and it looked and smelled delicious. They were practically licking the bourbon syrup off the plates. I would definitely go back because everything on the menu looked delicious.

Oh. My. God. Best fried chicken I’ve ever had. Incredible mac & cheese, flavorful collard greens, and a great beer selection. I’m in love.

Came here in a whim for Sunday brunch and it was one of the best decisions I made! The food is really good and it is definitely one of the better southern brunch options in Boston! My friends and I ordered the Cajun Gumbo, Fried Chicken & Waffles, and the Tupelo Sandwich, all of which were delicious. It’s also really helpful that this place lets you make reservations or you can call ahead of time to put your name down.

The food and service were really good, but the portions were disappointingly small, especially when you look at the price you’re paying. Would have been 4 stars if the portions were bigger. The corn bread they gave us to snack on was ok, but would have been better if served warmed up. The southern fried chicken was very good, perfectly crispy and not too greasy. It didn’t sit heavy in my belly. It came with jalapeño mac and cheese which was alright. Swapped the collared greens out for cheesy grits, which were great. My partner got the hanger steak, which was really delicious but a very small meal. He swapped one of the sides out for mashed potatoes, but the other sides, which he didn’t swap out, unfortunately didn’t come with the meal at all. A little strange. I wish chicken and waffles were on the dinner menu!

I really like this place, I go here for brunch. The duck confit vegetable stir fry is really excellent. The grits are also pretty good too. My husband ordered the fried oyster po-boy once and it was literally the largest sandwich I’ve ever seen, but he liked it. Definitely one of my favorite places to eat in Boston for brunch.

Well I tried alligator for the first time, so there’s that. It was actually pretty good but I can’t say I have a lot to compare it to. The mac and cheese was DELISH which is exactly what I want from a southern resaturant. The drinks are also pretty good but the place is small so I’d suggest making a reservation to make sure you get a table. One small flaw: We got there one time for our reservation and they didn’t have our table ready(no big deal, it happens). We had to stand awkwardly in the middle of the restaurant and they asked of for our drink orders while we were waiting. They gave us our drinks and we were still standing in the middle of the place awkwardly drinking away. Kind of an interesting way to start a meal.

My wife and I had brunch here on Sunday morning. It was excellent. I ordered the Dude, which is fried chicken, sausage gravy, scrambled eggs and biscuits. My wife ordered waffle. Both were excellent. Waffle was nice and fluffy. The butter was so good. For the Dude, the chicken was perfectly fried. The gravy was so good and the eggs had a nice texture and taste to them. So fluffy. I highly recommend their brunch.

I was super excited to try this place out, and with the fabulous pictures on the website, I honestly felt it was a great build up to a big let down! Our server named, Paul was personable and friendly! He was great, because what they lacked in the dishes we ordered he made up for in being a great waiter. I’m a southern girl, born and raised and there’s nothing worse than having poorly cooked red beans and rice, collard greens, cornbread, and pie! These are our staples and if you can’t do it right, don’t do it at all! My first issue was with the cornbread it was cold and overly sweet. Now I love cornbread with a little sweetness but not like a piece of cake! My next issue was with the collard greens, it was sweet, and NO self respecting southerner would even advise someone to make their collard greens sweet! I can tell that no ham hoc was used in its preparation. The beans and rice was cold and the rice was crunchy! Crunchy rice is a BIG no, no! I didn’t even eat them. There was not enough andouille sausage and chicken in the small bowl of gumbo. The pie was cold. When we mentioned that it would have been nice to have a «warm» piece of pie, we were told that, one must ask for it to be warmed. How would we know to ask that? The space was a bit cramped, but I like the overall feel of the restaurant. I liked the blackened catfish, pickled vegetables, and the mulled red wine. For this restaurant to open at 5:30pm for dinner and none of the food was«hot» except for the catfish, that’s really a shame! Other than that, this dinner option is nothing to write home about. It took a while for me to finally check this place out, and it’ll be a while before I’ll ever go back! I hope that this review helps you. Happy eating!

Everything was pretty good. The best part about the whole deal was walking in on a Saturday night and not having to wait. My wife is from New Orleans and I spend about a month of each of my years there so I’m not going to let you off that easy. The batter. For whatever you fry things with. The oysters, fried chicken, the cheesy grit cubes. Flavor it up. Add some spice. The fried oysters tasted like air. Your aioli or remoulade or whatever it is was tasty. You have Abita beer now it’s time to get Abita rootbeer, not everyone is an alcoholic and it’s good to have a New Orleans based soda alternative. That or Barq’s in a bottle or their red crème soda. The macaroni and cheese was phenomenal. As was the gumbo and the fried chicken(spice up the breaking mixture). All around any salty new englander should find enjoyment in this taste of the south

Aaah, Tupelo. Where the hipsters and Mason jars are plentiful. The service is really great here though, and the food is solid. I like the cornbread, and the entrée gumbo is GINORMOUS and perfectly spicy. I have also really enjoyed all the sides I’ve ordered here(collards, red beans and rice, etc).

Look, this is not a review of Tupelo’s food or service: the food and drinks are great, the staff is friendly, and the atmosphere is intimate and casual. I’m giving them 1 star because they use the Reserve app to book tables. Reserve is a competitor to Open Table; it differentiates itself by charging customers for making a reservation. It automatically deducts $ 5 for booking a table for you, charges you $ 10 for cancelling a reservation less than 2 hours before, and $ 25.00PERPERSON for a missed reservation. Note, it is not the restaurant that charges this or gets the money for their inconvenience, it’s this awful app. I understand that there are real issues with Open Table(namely that they take a cut from the restaurant), but Reserve is a TERRIBLE alternative. Please pay a 1 time fee to set up a reservation system on your website, or raise prices by 1−2% and use Open Table.

This is one of those places where I see the menu and want to literally order everything. But it is never a good idea. I am a big fan of southern food. Tupelo makes all of the things that I like. At this point, it doesn’t even make sense for me review each thing because I love it all. Really. The food is not too expensive, and everything is packed with flavor. None of those dishes where you have to contemplate for 3 seconds to extract the umami. The taste is right here in my mouth and I feel it now without much processing. Yes. That’s my kind of food. Sincere and fulfilling. Be a bit on top of the game when it comes to securing a table though. They are quite popular even late Wednesday night. Always call ahead.

Comfort food done right! Tupelo executes all their dishes to perfection and it’s definitely worth a visit for folks that aren’t worried about their waistline. I’ve really enjoyed their fried chicken, waffles, fried pickles(DOIT!!) and oyster po boy! It is a bit pricey for the amount of food but you won’t regret it.

Wednesday night dinner, no reservations, no need Yummy cornbread while we waited! +1 App — fried alligator. sounds more exciting than it tastes. a bit too salty for both me and my company. Entre: –Cajun Jumbo: generous portion. Comes with just one small slice of toasted bread for a HUGE bowl of gumbo. It was good, but I think they skimp on the meat(sausage and chicken) –Pork loin: good, but nothing mind-blowing Service: friendly, efficient, maybe they checked on us too much but that’s hardly something to complain about

We had some trouble getting reservations for weekend evenings, so I recommend calling more than a couple days in advance if you wanna go during a prime time. The complimentary corn bread was delicious and we were offered another serving later in the meal which was awesome! For starters we tried the fried oysters and mac and cheese fritters, which were a special that night. I thought the oysters were nicely breaded and very good, especially with the tangy aioli, and I enjoyed the accompanying pickled vegetables. The mac and cheese fritters were just average, and I probably wouldn’t get it again. For my entrée I got the fried chicken, which came in a generous portion. The mac and cheese here(not in fritter form) was great, but the collard greens were definitely on the sour side as noted in many other reviews. The chicken itself was very moist, including the breast meat, but the batter was a little too hard and crispy for me. Overall it’s a nice restaurant with pretty big portions. I just think I’ve had better fried chicken elsewhere. It did seem like there was an extensive drinks menu relative to the food menu(almost everything on the«specials» menu was actually a drink), so that might be of interest to some people.

Food: There were limited options on their dinner menu. I ordered the jambalaya, which was subpar. Nothing great about it but it was a large portion — had enough leftovers for another two meals. Service: Our server was great. He filled our water glasses, had good conversation with us, turned off the AC near us(it was really cold) and just went out of his way to make our meal comfortable. Service was really good but I wouldn’t come back here only because I wasn’t feelin the food.

Its difficult to mess up Southern cooking: even average fried chicken and cornbread and mac and cheese are still pretty good. And Tupelo doesn’t mess these dishes up. However, these dishes weren’t anything special. So, three stars. The cheesy grits was the best tasting dish we had; the collard greens(which I usually love) were too vinegar-y to even eat half of them. The atmosphere is really nice and the servers were cool.

Holy brunch! I love Southern food, so it’s no surprise that I loved my brunch at Tupelo. Although. if you look at my Unilocal reviews you will see that I thought Hungry Mother was very average. Tupelo on the other hand, was amazing. I started out with the Sweet Tea(half cut), which is a Southern MUST. Don’t be enticed by the Mimosas or Coffee. GETTHESWEETTEA. I got the Eggs in Purgatory, which was one of the specials. 2 poached eggs in a rich, chunky gumbo. The eggs were perfectly poached. The gumbo rice was not soggy(yay!) and had a nice smoky flavor from the sausage. The okra was nice as well. I’m almost always disappointed by overly salty gumbo, but Tupelo’s is nothing like that. I will definitely order this again. And because I love Southern food, I ordered a side of cheesy grits for myself. They were as advertised, cheesy. Cheesy, rich, gooey, gritty, flavorful. I put some hot sauce on top of it and ate everything. Haven’t tried dinner, but I’ll update my review when I do(and I definitely will come back for brunch).

I have had some time to reflect on my experience at Tupelo and I have concluded that I will need to revisit for dinner to give a complete review BUT what I did have was perfection. I hugged the woman who made my fried chicken. That might be all I need to say but I’ll expand just in case that doesn’t convey the perfection of my visit. I arrived with my best friend about an hour and a half before they closed before dinner. The décor is hipster chic which I know some people hate on but it’s really perfect, so stop that. Our waiter also happened to be the beer buyer which I loved because he could fully answer all my questions about the drink menu. For a late brunch I decided on a drink that combined their current lager and coffee. . The Katie version of a mimosa It took us a hot minute to decide on our meal because everything looked so wonderful and I got the chicken and waffles(see photo) and after I worked my way through half the waffle and one piece of chicken I then HAD to ask the waiter if I could hug the person who made my chicken. I’m a slow eater because I like to savor but with half the meal done I would have clocked in at about 5:37. Everything was incredibly seasoned. I snuck a spoonful of my friend’s gravy and it’s by far one of the best thefts of my life. You are a fool if you don’t eat here
