I love camping. Love. I could do it every weekend, in fact. Mauthe Lake is located in the North Kettle Moraine — and is about 45 min away from Milwaukee. This makes it easy to go for a short weekend, and still feel like you’re getting away! The swim area is really nice and relatively shallow — making it pretty kid friendly.

Close enough to Milwaukee for a weekend getaway yet still a world away… Hiking trails(Ice Age, around the lake, etc.)… A fishing pier, a park, open areas to run and play, a pet area, and swimming… With a lake large enough to spot 2-foot pike, that’s also small enough that boats with motors aren’t allowed(& it’s clean! & you can rent canoes and rowboats!)… Nice campgrounds, friendly rangers, clean bathrooms and great showers(by camping standards…) Mauthe Lake = my new camping jam. If you’re a camper, it’s most certainly worth checking out.(Worth the day trip from the city, too!) Note: Make sure to watch out for the flash mob of raccoons. Seriously. Five of ‘em, organized, and came into our campsite for what was seemingly a calculated raid. We three sat three feet away and watched in both amazement and horror. Good thing we’re experts and had our coolers bungied shut! It was like they planned that noise, for real. Brazen a-holes.
