Il Posto was a tremendous experience. Not only did they make you feel like family, but made sure you tried something new while you where visiting. The owners were warm inviting and so knowledgeable. We will definitely go back on the future. Thanks for such a delicious night il Posto!

This place is a gem! I’m my opinion there is no other place to go in town for Italian food. It’s quaint and family owned, SUPPORT those small businesses. I have had every type of dish from veal to steak to fish, and they have a different choice of risotto every week. It is always cooked perfectly. Any Italian will critique some risotto and theirs is ALWAYS perfect. The portions are great, sometimes you go out and there is enough to feed a family of 4! Il posto serves you just enough with usually a little to take home. One true surprise is their grilled Delmonico steak. It is a bit on the spicy side due to their seasoning but it is so flavorful and always cooked to the way we order it. I say it’s a surprise because it isn’t some fancy steakhouse but tastes like it comes from one. The music is amazing. A great mix of Italian tenors and old school Frankie Sinatra. **They also have gluten free pasta available upon request for $ 2 extra. I’m not gluten free but thought I’d put that out there. If you want a nice experience and to be treated like family this is the place to go! Staff is amazing and very very knowledgeable.

A little gem of an Italian bistro. The owner was outgoing and friendly, as was our waittress. My husband’s steak was marvelous –tender and flavorful. My risotto was also excellent. We’d definitely come back! Prices were also reasonable.

I got a takeout veal parmigiana for my husband. It was the worst veal parmigiana he ever ate. There was about 1 Tbsp of sauce on the veal and the spaghetti was white and flavorless. Salad and bread were not included. Expensive and tasteless.

I had high expectations. First of all, very friendly service and clean. The lighting was a bit low and the tables felt a bit cramped. Although the menu is better than most in the area, we didn’t find this stellar. The bread that they served was a bit stale and very salty, like a glorified dinner roll. Compare this to the chain Biaggi’s bread… well no comparison. We all ordered a salad. My sister ordered the house salad and liked it. My mother and I ordered the beet salad. We were not impressed. It was a great idea, executed in an average fashion. To be amazing, the beets could have been roasted, not boiled(or canned). The vinaigrette was not stirred well bc the salad lacked acidity, until the bottom. The feta was not at ALL salty and I buy the best and freshest feta. This feta was dry, powdery, flavorless and very sparse. The boiled eggs were over-cooked as they had the characteristic green ring around the yolk. All the elements of a great salad, executed poorly. The soup was pretty good. Tomato bisque with gouda. The tiramisu was great and you could really taste the alcohol. Usually, you cannot. Overall, Il Posto was good for Canandaigua, but I think it could be better, especially because of the price. They could aim for rustic, simple and do it well, instead of fancy and so-so. We had all gone to Biaggi’s and I thought I would hate it, but the salad and bread I had there was twice as good as here. The check was 81 bucks before tip for two CUPS of soup, three salads, one pasta dish(no meat), one glass of wine, two coffees, and two desserts. I can go to Macri’s deli and get amazing salad, bread and soup for 10 bucks. The atmosphere isn’t worth the price.

I went to this restaurant a few weeks ago after sending some friends there on a gift certificate. We all agreed that the food was excellent, the look and layout was very well done and the staff was superb. This is everything an Italian bistro should be. Has a family run feel where even the owner comes out to greet and check on his guests. They have a great menus but the daily specials are the ticket. They have a great wine selection and the chef uses ingenuity, presentation and flair. I gave it 5 stars because it is the best of what it is designed to be. A neighborhood Italian Bistro, not a big city Italian restaurant. As someone who travels extensively for work and eats in some of the finest restaurants, I would prefer to eat here. Finally… a fine dining experience in Canandaigua that exceeds expectations.

Great service. Great food. Great atmosphere. Perfect for an intimate conversation with friends or loved ones. Would recommend calling for a reservation as there is limited seating availability.

I want to start out by saying il posto is one of the most authentic Italian restaurants I have been to. I travel to Italy often and find it difficult match here in the states. The inside of the restaurant is very quaint, romantic and charming. The perfect date spot any night of the week. I have been here a few times and have been greeted warmly by the owner every time. Enough about the ambiance, the food is what is most notable and what keeps me coming back. The flavor of every dish was on point, and genuinely impressed me. On my most recent visit, I enjoyed a modestly priced bottle of red wine(viña Maipo) which was delicious. We chose the risotto of the day which had diced ribeye, mushrooms onions and roasted peppers. For an entrée — the chicken Gorgonzola which had a very complex but well balanced flavor profile. To finish, a wonderful tiramisu and espresso All in all this restaurant is above and beyond and is something I will always remember.

my wife and I went tonight for our anniversary and had a fantastic dinner! we arrived a few minutes early for our 7:00 reservation and were seated promptly by the owner. our server was highly competent, and did a perfect job of pacing our meal. we split the grilled calamari to start. the squid was cooked very well and wasn’t tough at all. the sauce over top was delicious, and my wife and I sopped up every last drop with our bread. we each had a salad that we enjoyed, then on to the main course. my wife had the risotto special and loved it. I ordered the veal gorgonzola which was fantastic. the rich creamy sauce was cut with a few juicy, acidic tomatoes that balanced the dish perfectly. the roast potatoes on the side were the best I’ve had in recent memory, seasoned and cooked beautifully. we split the tiramisu for dessert, which was the perfect end to the night. the dining room had a nice«buzz» without feeling too loud. despite the restaurant’s small size, we didn’t fell cramped at all and the table was big enough for our meals and drinks. I highly recommend Il Posto, and look forward to returning for another meal!

We went to Il Posto tonight to celebrate our friend’s 30th anniversary. We were excited because we all had heard such good things about it and had really enjoyed our meals at Bacco’s in Rochester(previously owned by Georges and Lisa). I want to start out positive and say the food was very good. Otherwise it was a total disappointment. Half our party arrived first(at 5:30) and were told by the hostess that we had the table only until 7:15. Wow. Welcome.(I was not told this when making reservations). The others arrived within 15 minutes and the clock started ticking. We were rushed through our drink orders and immediately asked if we were ready to order. We said we needed a little more time and the waitress came back within a few minutes. So we ordered. I have never had such prompt service. Our salads came right out and before we were finished, our main courses were brought out.(the tables are small and could only accommodate 1 course at a time). The owner came by twice and asked how things were, but turned away before we could answer. Dessert and coffee came pronto. I have never felt as rushed. At one point the waitress said something to the effect that because«we started late» we would have to move along. At 7:03 we were told that there were people who have been waiting for our table for 15 minutes. We responded that we were told we had the table until 7:15. We left at 7:14. The owner did not walk us out as he had others and would not make eye contact. We said nothing disrespectful and were cordial to the staff during all of this. Needless to say we will not return and we will not recommend them to our friends(which is their loss because we are local Canandaigua people and know there will be slow times in the winter where they would welcome patrons). A real shame. Our special evening was ruined and we had anticipated such a nice relaxing meal. The restaurant is obviously too small if they need to treat customers this way to turn over tables.

I am not very familiar with the restaurants in Canandaiqua, Unilocal brought Me to Il Posto. I was immediately greeted by the owner and He found Me a chair at a two top. I was in town on business and I was alone. Once I settled in I was greeted by My waitress. One of My favorite wines was at the top of the list. I ordered a glass and she brought Me a glass in short order. I ordered a rustic spaghetti with prosciutto, peas, tomatoes and an olive oil based sauce. It was very tasty. When I get back to town I will be sure to return to this fine bistro. Quite a venue.

Its not your average red sauce Italian restaurant. They truly have raised the bar for all Canandaigua Italian restaurants. The food even stands up to other Italian restaurants in bigger cities. The place has few tables and a little cramped. Make a reservation. The portions are not super sized, which lesser places do. Quantity over quality at Il Posto. The. This is one of the few restaurants that is date worthy. Its the most intimate one on Main St.

Really good to see a nice little Restaurant with very nice staff coming to town and giving it a serious try. Nice front, I suspect owner himself, very nice, very good food, all of us had a good dinner. Only complaint would be about the very tight sitting arrangements, and also there was AC outlet blowing straight at us so we had to ask to be reseated elsewhere. BUT, good food and that’s what counts. good job and I hope you will be around for a long time.

The food served here reminds me of my travels in Italy. Everything, including the seafood and fish was fresh and carefully prepared. We plan on making this one of our regular haunts. The owner and his wife are warm and welcoming. They now take reservations. Il Posto, I’m so glad you came to town!

My wife and I ate here on a Saturday night. We stopped in earlier in the afternoon to make reservations, but were told they only take reservations for parties of 6 or more, but the girl there assured us that even when they’re busy, the wait isn’t too long. When we got there later in the evening, the place was full, but they managed to seat us fairly quickly. We started with an appetizer of Bocanccini — mozzarella wrapped in prosciutto and topped with marinara and baked with bread crumbs. It was absolutely delicious. My only complaint with it was that there were only three small pieces which seemed like not a lot for the $ 9 price. Our entrée’s came, and they were outstanding. My wife had salmon over linguine in a pesto cream sauce. The fish was cooked to perfection, and the sauce was great. The only problem, and this is really not much of a problem at all, is that the fish was so flaky that it didn’t hold up to the heavier sauce and it was difficult to get a bite of it with the pasta. She certainly didn’t mind. I ordered the Veal Balsamico with radicchio, onions, olives, goat cheese, and a balsamic sauce. The veal just melted in my mouth. the salty olives were nicely balanced by the sweet balsamic reduction. The prices for the entrees were very reasonable, both under $ 20. The portion sizes were just enough, and seemed to shy away from the current trend of bringing you so much food that you couldn’t possibly eat it all. The one thing we noticed is that it was quite loud when the place was full. They only have about a dozen tables, plus seating at the bar. Once a few tables left later in the evening, it was fine. The owner of Il Posto came to our table at least twice to check on us, and seemed genuinely appreciative to everyone for their business. We will definitely return.
