My husband and I rented the«Crab Shack,» 631 Ocean, Cannon Beach, OR, based on the five star ratings of previous renters. Little did I know that only good reviews with no helpful hints(like bring your own shampoo, bath soap, clean linens, clean dishes, carpet shampoo, mirrors, etc.) were published, but those are the only reviews that Cannon Beach Property Management posts on their website. If it weren’t for the location and view of this property, I would give it a one star; «give» being the operative word. If you want to rent a house for two people and two small children and don’t care about cleanliness, dripping faucets, no toiletries, bedrooms with no closets & mirrors, filthy carpet & upholstery for $ 500 a night or more, with a fabulous view, then this house may be just right for you. The first night we arrived, my three year old granddaughter drank chocolate milk from a Sippy cup that was located in the home’s kitchen cabinet. Two hours later she was throwing up. She threw up all night. It was the mold in the plastic plug of the Sippy cup that made her violently ill. Later, we learned that renters are expected to wash all the dishes prior to leaving the premises – not the housekeeping staff. Really? Vacating renters are supposed to care about how clean they leave the dishes?! When one of my friends visited us, she sat in one of the«huge overstuffed upholstered chairs.» She placed her hands on the arms of her chair, palms down. After chatting for a few minutes, she picked up a snack and exclaimed, «OMG, look at my hands. They are brown.» Yuk, yuk, yuk. The chair upholstery was so filthy that when you touched it, you were instantly filthy, too. Could not touch the upholstery without getting a rash. Don’t even get me started on the disgusting carpet. .. . I wanted to write this review on the Cannon Beach Property Management website, but there is no way to do so. If you want to rent a beachfront property, don’t care about clean bed linens, having bedroom closets, dirty dishes, filthy carpets and upholstery, doors that close, etc., propaganda type ratings, this may be the place for you. Just remember, the house is named«Crab Shack» for a reason.

I have rented two vacation houses from Cannon Beach Property Management; both disappointing. Will definitely never rent a vacation house from Cannon Beach Property Management again. I made the mistake of thinking that in going with what looks to be the«premier» rental management company in Cannon Beach, I’d be getting the highest quality of everything. And with so many stellar reviews on every single one of their properties, how could you go wrong?! Well, you can go wrong when you realize that the reviews are doctored, and they only post the highest ratings they receive. The others, with helpful information about why the property might not be right for you(like my own reviews)? Deleted. You’ll never see them on the site. Their properties are misrepresented not only in the descriptions and photos, but also by what reviews they«choose» to post. My reviews could have helped others in deciding on one of the properties, and the reviews they deleted before mine could have helped ME in deciding on a property. For example, the house I rented for my wedding week was supposed to have two queen bedrooms. Perfect, one for me and my husband-to-be, and one for my parents. Nope. When we got there, we found that one of these queen bedrooms was INSIDE the other one– what the? Imagine this: an upstairs kitchen, dining room, and common area where everyone congregates, connected to a den area where there is a queen bed and bathroom. This den area with the bed is separated by a rudimentary sliding door that doesn’t even close completely, and there aren’t even any fittings for a latch of any kind. Pretty much zero privacy from the common area, and captures all of the noise. Within that den with queen bed, there is a door in the corner– oh, it’s a tiny bedroom with a queen bed! We all had an absolute fit when we realized that whoever had the bedroom with a door would have to come INTO the other bedroom to access the bathroom and disturb the occupants of that bed. This might be fine for a family who just has kids in the den, but not for two adult couples. And it gets worse: There are supposed to be three additional beds for my guests, and I find that only ONE of those has a real bedroom! The other two beds are literally in the middle of an open… mudroom? as soon as you open the front door of the house. Open the front door– direct eyeshot of one of the beds. Again, maybe fine for kids, but I was so embarrassed to tell my guests that this was where they’d be sleeping. All things that would have been great to know in one of the reviews I’m sure had been submitted, much like I submitted mine, and it was never posted. Even worse, when I brought up my concerns to the management company, I got little more than a shrug. «Oh, that’s too bad.» Wow. Might as well have said, «I’m sorry, but now that you’ve paid in full, we don’t care about a single concern you have.» By the height of summer, there are no other rentals available, and forget finding a hotel room. It would have been great if I had known about this particular house’s «features» before I decided on it. But everything was masked with artful photography, artful descriptions, and artful selection of reviews. Just designed to take your money and lie in wait for the next victim.
