Best Cajun food north of NOLA! I love the Jambalaya. My spouse loved the Crawfish Étouffée. And they had our favorite beer – Southern Pecan. Spectacular service in a non-pretentious environment. Our daughter enjoyed the spicy popcorn shrimp. And our 8 month old scarfed the crackers. If you’re ever in the Cape this is a must place to eat.

I will need to visit a few more times to make a final determination on the food. Today I had the shrimp stir fry lunch special. It was just ok, not Cajun at all, it just had a Lille spice sprinkled in it but nothing to make it «Cajun». The service was horrible, I barely saw my server and then when I asked for a to go drink, she brought a box and no drink. I will visit again to try some more dishes and decide then…

Ate here for the first time a couple weeks ago. The gator and clams were amazing. The crawdads tasted different from what I’m used to. Wasn’t crazy about the shrimp etouffe. Will go back though.

Not great too expensive for what you get. I wasn’t impressed. Like I said heavy bill for a light plate.

I was glad to see that Cape G has some diversity in their food options. However, I was not blown away by the food here. If you’ve had Cajun food from Louisiana, this could be quite an underwhelming experience. It was okay. I had shrimp étouffée. It was tasty for the moment, but just because I was hungry. It wasn’t nasty, but not reflective of real étouffée from Louisiana. I could taste the canned cream of whatever they added. The customer service and location are great though

I’m happy with the move to the new location that is just a few doors down from the old location. The other location was dated and management left much to be desired. The server was great, very friendly. We sat upstairs, which was nice minus one very disruptive lunch group. The floor plan was open, so your not elbow to elbow with another party. We had catfish with Cajun fries and shrimp etoufee. The catish was fresh and seasoned well. The étouffée was good. I would eat here again.

Hubby and I loved this place! We totally pigged out! Hubby said the cheese fries was the best he has ever had and of course he thought the Gator was delicious! I had ½lb crab legs and the Crawfish Effoulee, which was amazing, highly recommend! I also recommend the house dressing for the salad, port wine and cheese!!! We will definitely be back!

If you like authentic Cajun cuisine, you need to try Broussard’s. The place has been an institution in Cape Girardeau to decades, but they’ve recently moved to a new location that makes this a MUSTGO in Cape. I first visited Broussard’s about 10 years ago and I was both intrigued and repulsed. The food was unbelievably good and authentic but the ambience sucked. They allowed smoking, the lighting was dim, the bathrooms were gross, and the tables were grimy. You can excuse a lot when the food is great, but my husband and kids refused to step foot in the place. I only visited when my parents were in Cape from out of town. Fast forward to a couple of months ago when Broussard’s moved to a new, pristine location that doesn’t allow smoking and is sparkling clean!!! They have, hands down, the best fried catfish outside of Louisiana. The shrimp étouffée will make you weep with joy. The red beans and rice are to die for. The shrimp po’boy kicks butt. It’s all really good!

Dined in their new location. Food was mediocre: ordered red beans and rice, it was just a bowl of rice with a ladle of beans on top, it had 4 pieces of sausage in the whole entrée, very little flavor. Service was poor: did not receive our salads with came with our entrees, no drink refills, no clearing of dirty dishes. Not a good choice for a nice meal out.

Great new location. Food as great as ever and(it may be my imagination) even better in their new spot. Great ambiance and now nonsmoking. Maybe that’s why the food tastes even better! If you’re in Cape Girardeau and are a foodaphile, this is one of three places to eat. What to choose? I’ve had about everything on the menu over the years but I always go back to the crawfish half and half– etouffe and fried. Oysters, gator, shrimp anything. Have been fortunate to be in New Orleans many times and have eaten in most all«THE» great restaurants there. Not worth the 565 mile drive when we have this jewel in our backyard!

This review is from their new location. They really stepped up their game when choosing décor. I’ts really a nice place now. Much improved over their last one. I have to be honest, I never really liked going to the older place much. It was a busy Saturday afternoon and one of the first really pretty days so far this year. I stepped inside the building really not knowing what to expect. They spared no expense in the new venture. It’s old Louisiana style furnishings, Something completely different for the Cape Girardeau area. You could smell the fresh aroma of Cajun cuisine taunting you upon entry. If you are not hungry, you soon will be as you watch waitresses carrying food to the patrons. Everything looks great and it’s hard to choose exactly what to get. I opted for the Crab and Shrimp Gumbo. I’ll have to say, I’m not an expert on Gumbo but I have had my fair share. This was a complete delight from the first spoonful to the last. The only problem was that I just wanted more. The portions are great and large. Gumbo comes with a salad but I opted for Red Beans and rice. It was the best I’ve ever had. A huge block of sweet cornbread and the meal was complete! Smash hit for Cape Girardeau. If you are looking for something different check it out. You won’t be disappointed. Hat’s off to the wait staff too. That little Jordan Ramos girl did a great job!

Reviewing from their new location. The surroundings are beautiful. Right on the river. But… We ordered all you can eat seafood gumbo and salad. Our salad never came. The gumbo was okay. Not a traditional Cajun roux, overly spicy, but okay. The seafood was almost non existent. Not all you can eat because our waiter never came back– not even to get our drink order. He did show up at the end with our bill.

Best Cajun place ever. The gumbo is a must! The fried fish was amazing as well. There is no wrong thing to order here we looked at all the plates as they were served to surrounding tables and wanted them!

My boyfriend and I made a trip to Cape exclusively to eat here. The food was fantastic. I got the crawfish etoufee. While it was absolutely delicious, I get like it was missing something. I’m not quite sure what, though. The house salad dressing is to die for. I’ve found myself craving it after only having eaten it once. The fried clams are also really good. The décor is a bit dated but I actually kind of like that. If you find yourself in Cape, give Broussards a try.

We stopped in here on the way to St. Louis because of the great reviews. We were definitely not disappointed and I ate way more of my generous«half portion» of crawfish étouffée than I should have, but it was too good to waste! This place does have a smoking section so even the non-smoking section still had a musty smell, but it wasn’t terrible and I am very sensitive to smoke. If we ever stop in Cape Girardeau again, we will be sure to stop in.

Everything was delicious(and huge)! Not super cheap, but you’re really getting two meals out of this. One for now and one for later. The Cajun Nachos were so so so so good and the Crawfish Etoufee was one of the best I’ve ever had. Looking forward to returning and trying more off the menu!

The menu says«Cajun», but quite a bit of the food is fried with a bit of sprinkled seasoning mixed into the batter(i.e., pretty tame). We tried frog legs, but the meat was too wet when dipped so the fried batter came off in chunks like egg shell. Fried catfish was good, but nothing to write home about. We didn’t try the Jambalaya or crayfish, so maybe those dishes are this restaurant’s salvation. The interior of the place has had a lot of years put on since the last face lift so it’s a little rough and … well it is a bar … smoking is allowed.
