Stand Up Paddle New Brighton scores an A for customer service and overall experience. I’d been wanting to try SUP for awhile, so I woke up one Sunday morning and decided, «Today’s the day!» I signed up for their Intro to Stand Up at Capitola Beach. Due to a glitch in their system, unbeknownst to them or me at the time, it allowed me to sign up just before the class was to begin, when normally it would stop allowing registration twelve hours before the class. I arrived, and the instructor, Jocelyn, welcomed me, as she had an extra board. Unfortunately, there was not an extra paddle! The rest of the people in the group were all from out of town, so I offered to take the class another day. Instead, Jocelyn went above and beyond by offering to stay longer, as there was no way for us to all go out without a delay. She handled the whole situation with professionalism, creativity, and a willingness to make it right for all involved. The two hour wait was well worth it. Her casual yet competent teaching style made me feel comfortable and confident on the board, and I became hooked! By the time I’d gotten home that day, the owner of the company, Scott, had personally emailed me to apologize for the system error and had already fixed it. I had not had any experience with Stand Up Paddle New Brighton or stand-​up paddling before the class, and the experience that day, both on the water and off, made me a great fan. Mistakes happen, and it’s how they’re dealt with that matters. This made me think more highly of and be more loyal to Scott and his company than I would have been had everything gone perfectly from the outset. My husband and I went the next weekend and are considering purchasing boards in the near future.

I am a big guy and was scared out of my mind BUT the nice little lady… Natalie I think… was very helpful and calmed all my fears. She showed me pro techniques that helped me in the calm water and the baby surf that was out there.
I was doing hand stands by the end of the day!
We got out early, it was calm and a little foggy but then the fog burned off and it was amazing! So peaceful. We got to see dolphins, sea lions and an otter with its baby! And schools of fish under your board… pretty cool!
Can’t wait to take my 9 year old out there!
