Excellent food and polite waiters. This is a family business and I love the fact that it isn’t part of a chain. Everything on the menu is good. If you have a love for southern food or have family from there, this place will make them feel at home. From fried chicken /pork chop /collard greens staples to fried okra and pig feet for the extremely southern members of your family. By the way if u do have a problem, grab the mother or daughter owner who are usually around.

Best place to get southern food on Long Island. Chicken and waffles, BBQ ribs, cornbread, everything is delicious! The mixed drinks are a bit pricey, but everything else is pretty reasonable. Yes, the service is a bit slow, but it is worth it! The ribs practically fell right off the bone, they were so tender. Yum!

I’ve been here a couple of times now, this review is for my most recent experience. We had purchased a Groupon months back that was about to expire. We came here on a Saturday night after a long day of shopping for furniture. We were told there was an hour long wait, so we decided we would try to make other arrangements. While we were outside trying to get a table elsewhere the hostess came out and said that they actually had a table available right now. Odd. The service was pretty slow. We did not see much of our server while we were there. We ordered a couple of mixed drinks that were good, though very pricey. I got the chicken and waffles and she had the half rack of ribs. Everything was very good. The cornbread wasn’t spectacular, but better than I could ever hope to make. I paid an extra $.25 for cajun seasoning on my fries, which seemed pretty much absent. The fries were still good without it, but don’t charge extra, even a quarter, for a seasoning you will only hint at. The chicken was a good, well-cooked chicken breast, and the waffle was pretty standard, Belgian waffle. I enjoyed my entrée and she loved her ribs. It took us a while to get our check when we were ready for it, but we were soon out the door. I will probably come back if I’m in the area again and want some decent southern food, but that might not be for a while now.

Do not I repeat do not go there hungry because you will be waiting quite some time for your food. Was it worth the wait, yes. I had the ribs with the mac and cheese and the collard greens with turkey. Nom nom. It was all friggin amazing. The sauce on those ribs! Talk about kiss the chef! The mac and cheese was so cheesy and goodness and just melt in your mouth yummy. It was my first time having collard greens so I don’t have anything to compare it to but I enjoyed them thoroughly. There was an issue with my drink which they resolved easily. It was the Sweet tea long island which was yummy. My friend ordered the fish, I don’t remember which kind, I was too enamored in my own meal to be honest but I had a taste and it was good. She didn’t like the hush puppies, she said they didn’t taste like anything or should’ve come with some type of sauce or something.

This place was just ok… I would rate it more of a 2 ½ star establishment. The service was fine, unfortunately the food was not to my expectations. I know southern cuisine, since that’s the makeup of half my family, so when I go to an establishment selling southern food, I have certain expectations. I had the shrimps and grits with no bacon or green peppers. When my order came out about 45 minutes later, it lacked a lot of flavor and had no onions or red peppers(I didn’t ask them to omit that)… My cousin and his friend’s meal was more flavorful(he had the blackened tilapia over Quinoa, I tried some of his), his friend had the turkey wings, she said it tasted good. Would I come back again, I not sure but it definitely won’t be a place I’ll be anxious to return to anytime soon.

The food lacked flavor… the coconut cake was dry. The banana pudding was very good. This was my 3 time there and I found the food to be mediocre.

Just Terrible ! Mac and cheese — taste like scrambled eggs with noddles(and that’s a nice way of saying it lol) When you go to a southern spot and the Mac and cheese sucks you no what’s up ! Fried green tomatoes — paper thin over cooked taste like green tomato chips(nasty) Yams — straight out of a can(that was the best thing here btw) Fried chicken — was raw inside(that’s not safe lol) after that we decided to leave We had such high hopes for this place… to be honest I can’t figure out for the life of me how this place stays open… they have been there awhile and I’m telling you this place should close down before someone get sick The plates and utensils are disgusting plus the raw food(you read it here first when it happens lol and it will everyday is just that much closer for them) ALLINALL — ITS A TRAPPPPP lol Please keep away from this place. There ain’t nothing southern here Mac and cheese noodle egg omelet… SMH…I would have given anything to be there when they said YESSSS let’s put that on the menu lmao

Like everyone said, the wait could be a bit long for food(and it was a Tuesday night. Can’t imagine the service on Friday). I think there is only one cook at this place. We arrived at 7:30 but didn’t leave till like 10:00. I probably wouldn’t come back for dinner, but definitely would get take out or for the Sunday brunch buffet. The chef came out when we were about to leave and chatted with us. She was super friendly and made us feel like we were eating at her home. I guess this is what soul food is all about.

Ok, so I haven’t written a review in a very, very, VERY long time; but, this place so deserved one, that I couldn’t resist… I have a cousin who mentioned LL Dent’s a long time ago, but due to scheduling conflicts, we never got together to sit down for a meal. Then came in groupon, with its awesome deal, and next thing you know, I was clicking the«buy now» button like nobody’s business. Having checked the other Unilocal reviews, I was very skeptical, but I came in with an open mind; that sweet deal helped, too. LL Dent’s is a cozy little place that sits in a shopping center full of restaurants. It has about 15 – 20 tables, and they do not take dinner reservations on Saturdays. Nevertheless, we were seated immediately. The hostess was friendly, and the smells coming out of the kitchen was enough to make my stomach rumble even more. We were given cornbread within seconds of being seated. Served warm, it was moist on the inside and slightly toasted on the outside, and was hands down the best cornbread I have ever had. Though I normally like to have wine with dinner, I opted for the sweet tea, which turned out to be a good decision, as it was perfect! We ordered the fried green tomatoes as an appetizer; the ¼ fried chicken with collard greens and Mac n cheese, and shrimp with grits(no bacon) for entrees; dessert was banana pudding. The fried green tomatoes were not at all oily, and the remoulade was a perfect match. I sprinkled a little bit of salt, and it was even better. The chicken was a choice between white or dark meat, and from what I was told, was juicy and downright delicious, as with the collard greens and Mac and cheese. I originally wanted the brisket; the server sincerely apologized and told me that they were out of it, so I wound up with the shrimp and grits(I have to tell you that I was a little iffy about ordering that, as I had the same thing from another restaurant and it was not good, to put it mildly). LL Dent’s shrimp and grits is the best thing I have ever had. The grits was flavorful, and there was enough sauce from the shrimp to mix in with it. The toast points tasted like garlic bread topped with cheese, complemented the dish, and was a great addition. Too bad for me, I ate most of the appetizer and cornbread, so was only able to take a few bites of my entrée(yay, I love leftovers). Not to mention that I had my eye on the bread pudding. How was it, you ask? EXCELLENT. It was flaky and tasty, went from hot to cold, and was sinfully delicious. LL Dent’s really is a great place to visit. Lillianne, the co-owner walked around and asked how everything was. As did the hostess. Our server was friendly, even telling me that I made a great choice with the shrimp and grits. The bussers were attentive and cleared the table after each course. The space was not too loud, and had a very calm vibe to it. The food is made to order, so expect a little wait. Paying with a groupon was no problem. This was one of the best dining experiences I have had, and I highly recommend it. Just be sure to wear loose fitting or elasticized pants, and come hungry — the portions are huge!

Horrible service. This is our first time using a Groupon here. Came here 3 years ago and the service has declined. Waited 2 hours and no food and no sorry for the delay from the staff. Four other tables that came way after us got their food and we’re walking out but we hadn’t even been served yet. The owner/hostess greeted church goers and people that seem like big tip givers… little did she know. Never again. If you are hungry skip this place. You will die of hunger before the remember your order.

Food was ok: –cornbread was awesome –spinach dip was different in a good way –fried chicken was fine but not special –Mac and cheese was bland and mushy. Biggest disappointment Service was super duper slow. Irritatingly slow. Service was on the kinda friendly but mostly inadequate side. Overall, food was fine but probably wouldn’t come back.

I really think this place is worth 2 ½ stars First let me start with the positives. Most of the food came out hot, we were seated right away, my bf ordered an angus burger, which was good, the fried whiting and cornbread was good, a lady went around and made sure everyone was enjoying themselves and the food and lastly, we were addressed quickly. Now the negatives. The food took ridiculously long, the Mac and cheese was cold and that is what made it tasteless, the fried chicken wings was not crispy(as I would like it) and our waiter was not attentive. The place is small but ok if you’re bringing a party of 7. The wait for your food is so long you could go to Roosevelt field mall to do some shopping. Your waiter does not update you on what’s taking the food so long to come out, what you assume is, the food is being made fresh. Also, he does not check on you. The collard greens came out hot and good but didn’t have a lot of meat(I like collard greens with A LOT of meat). Would I go here again? Probably not. Mainly because the service sucks and the food could’ve been better. This place needs to hire more waiters and find a system to inform the patrons on what is taking so long for their food to come.

Chipotle sauce, fried chicken, candied yams, catfish, mac and cheese are all amazing and a must try. They used to have oxtails that were amazing as well but all the recent times I have dined here they said it was only a special that of course wasn’t available the day I came. Sometimes they don’t have certain dishes on the menu available on certain days which sucks. But service is always good and never had to wait a crazy long time for my food to come.

Three and a half stars. Uh oh guys, we’ve slipped an entire star. Same trio as last time dined– MIL, husband and I. The food is still solid but service needs some help. We went in around 3p on a Saturday. There were only three other tables with diners– a three top, a double and a solo, with the last two having already received their food. It took us two hours start to finish. There was one poor dude as the waiter and another older dude bussing and pouring water. We probably would have walked had we not remembered how yummy the food had been. The sweet tea is defective… seriously. It’s fermented or something. In my last review I noted that it didn’t taste fresh and, well, it tasted worse this time. Husband got ribs this time. He didn’t like them but I think he was just sour because we had been sitting for so long. They weren’t terrible. I wouldn’t get them again though. The yams are delicious. I think I wrote that last time but it warrants repeating. I got the fried catfish and it was perfectly cooked, moist and flavorful. We got repeats of everything else I mentioned in my first review and it all remained solid. No dessert this time because our patience was tapped out. It would have helped if anyone working today had a personality but apparently they all had off… If you have nothing else to do and feel like sitting around for a couple hours, by all means, this is your joint. The food is good. I just needed a coloring book or something…

First and foremost I give this place 10 stars what an amazing hidden gem. I have traveled most of the South and have had my fair share of Southern food, this restaurant blows the south out of the water. The corn bread is to die for, @ & you will never find better grits and not to mention the sweet cinnamon mint iced tea OMG.

Came back for a second time to try their fried chicken and some dessert. I arrived at around 7:15 on a Tuesday night and was the only customer during my stay. The restaurant is situated in a strip mall between a Red Lobster and a 5 Guys. The fried chicken was fried perfectly– crispy and hot and juicy! Needed a bit of salt but i won’t take off for that. The greens and sweet potatoes were good southern-style vegetables that went well with the chicken. The portions were more than adequate, filling me up before i could finish the sweet potatoes. I bought a piece of Crunch Poundcake to take home. I’m glad i returned. I enjoyed my meal.

I’ve been scoping this place out for a minute and I finally made it. I love the ambience of the restaurant. Very homely and they play old school blues and jazz creating a happy, relaxing vibe. The food is great! First let’s talk about the delicious sides I had: The collard greens were so flavorful; The mac & cheese was so right; The yams were perfect; and even the potato salad was great. My fried chicken was crispy and seasoned well, just a little dry. My friend ordered the glazed cornish hen and it was soooooo good. Can’t forget about the amazing cornbread! The staff is nice but the service could use some work. Overall it’s a nice place with good food and I would return.
