I chose Mantel Depot because they have a great selection and service, were able to customize a fireplace surround and mantel to fit my fireplace, worked around my schedule, and the price was lower than most other shops. I would use them again and recommend them to others.
Have you priced fireplace mantels, cast stone, and iron doors? They cost a fortune! My blood pressure still goes up thinking about it. It’s not much cheaper on the internet either. I almost purchased a cast stone online and I’m glad I didn’t. There are a few fireplace specialty stores in town, but they are waaay expensive.
My fireplace came with a small cast stone surround without mantel. I wanted something a little grander, but I only had a small space to work with. John of Mantel Depot advised me what would and wouldn’t work within my available space. Since he and his crew produce their product onsite, they are able to custom size everything they have. Shorter, taller, wider, thinner; they can do it. John spent a great deal of his time ensuring we were measuring everything properly and getting everything just right. I know that my surround would not have been sized right if I purchased it online.
Since I am a do it yourselfer, I considered installing the mantel myself. I’m glad I had John and his crew do it. First, that new generation cast stone is heavy. Not the paper-​mache stuff I removed. Then, alot of the stone must be prepared onsite. I may have been able to do it, but I didn’t want to risk all that money. Finally, there are a lot of tricks involved getting everything to line up square.
The only negative comment I can make about Mantel Depot is that their office and showroom is dirty and lacks the pizzazz of other retail stores. I was able to deal with it though and saved myself hundreds of dollars. If you want to save money while getting a product that is custom sized for your special application, go to Mantel Depot.

After searching on the internet for a cast stone fireplace mantel we found one we liked at Mantel Depot, and turns out it was one of the most affordable amoung the quotes I received. John Pham of Mantel Depot was very responsive and helpfull with the questions I had in determining the sizing, style and color. The mantel arrived in a crate, expertly packed to prevent damage during shipping. It is now installed in our living room and looks fantastic!
