The quality of amber was much better when the opened. However, their quality dropped significantly. We used to go tp their buffet lunch at least 3 times and regular dinner 4 – 5 times a month. Unfortunately, the quality and portions both went down gradually. In addition, the behavior of the servers and not good at all. They behave like they are doing a big favor to you.

Went in for the lunch buffet. Greeted and seated immediately. Servers were friendly and accommodating. There was an amazing variety of dishes on the lunch buffet — tandoori chicken, curries, vegetarian dishes, appetizers, deserts. I was impressed. There were things that I wish were hotter but that is the nature of the beast with buffets. Great value!

Did some takeout since we were staying in the Hampton Inn right next to it. Wasn’t impressed with the quality of the food. Ordered Navratan Korma and Muttar Paneer. When we opened our containers, both looked exactly the same. Muttar Panner was very watery and did not have a lot of peas(which is one of the primary ingredients…). I also asked for my Korma to be as hot as possible, and I could not detect even a hint of spice. Not sure if that’s just a Midwest tendency. We also ordered aloo paratha, and it was near burnt yet still included in our order. There was hardly any filling either. Bummer.

I went with two of my friends for their lunch buffet one of which is a vegetarian. There are PLENTY of vegetarian options with clear labels as to which are not. They give you the option of plain or garlic naan to accompany your meal. We chose garlic naan and I thought it was fantastic and a great vehicle to dip into the various curries they offer. The butter chicken curry was the absolute best! The dessert options were kind of lacking; they only offered two, neither of which I cared for. Other than that, we were very satisfied with our meal. The service, however, could have been better.

I didn’t like the taste. It’s more of an Indian food suited for Americans. Though the ambience was good but food lacked indianality.

So, we received a recommendation for Amber from a friend. We had planned to dine in at some point but on the spur of the moment one evening, decided that Indian takeout was in order. The ordering process went smoothly, pick-up was quick and timely, and everything was packaged well to make the trip home to our kitchen a breeze. Even with a 10-minute drive, the food stayed hot. I had the Chicken Korma and my husband had half a Tandori Chicken and the Mattar Paneer. We split an order of the vegetable samosas for an appetizer. Overall, we were satisfied with the meal, but comparing it to Indian food from back in Philly, it seemed a little bland to us. Though my husband was pleasantly surprised to find out how spicy they made his meal(they asked about heat level when we ordered). He likes things pretty hot, so he found it to be just right. I asked for regular or moderate spiciness and didn’t find any heat in my dish. The hubs thought the paneer was a little chewy compared to other paneer dishes he has had in the past. Our overall biggest disappointment was with the samosas. I love samosas and for me, these missed the mark. Low on spice and flavor and really heavy on potato in the filling. I also noted that they didn’t seem fried all the way; the dough was kind of chewy on the inside(and for the record, it didn’t seem like a lack of crispiness that you might expect as a peril of takeout, because they actually were crispy on the outside). So, I would probably go back to Amber and give them another chance before I made a final call, but it was just a good experience, not great. I’ll also keep exploring other Indian options in the area as limited as they seem to be.

The food is definitely not what I expected. Went there twice to try different things in hope that the second time would be better. But it was not. The biryani is like fried rice with some meat, way too oil. Also tried some chicken n shrimp kebabs. Meat is not tender at all, way too hard to bite into, n the masalas they use taste very different as well. Didn’t like the experience at all!

Best Indian on the north side of Indy. If you want anywhere else this good, you’ll have to go to Lafayette square. I eat at Amber often, usually with my family. We get several dishes and split them. We’ve tried many things on the menu and never had anything less than fantastic. They even have some northern Indian dishes that I’ve never had at any other Indian restaurant. My favorite dish is probably the Chana masala — but it’s hard to pick because everything is good. The naan is delicious and comes complimentary with the entrees. Jasmine basmati rice too. I was back in town last night and this was the place I HAD to go with my parents while in Indy area.

Amber is all about expectations. If you’re looking for the best americanized Punjabi food in Indy, this is it. If you want authentic and more varied food, look elsewhere(I’d point you at Sizzling India on north Allisonville). Service and décor are nothing special but, in comparison to other other Indian restaurants that often offer Indian levels of service, Amber is above average.

Omg why have I never been here?! If I could eat here everyday I would! Best lamb and chicken curry yum!!! I honestly didn’t want it to end and as I couldn’t eat anymore there came a tear in my eye lol the service is a little slow and the place itself isn’t the best sight but the food trumps all of that!

As someone who has been coming here for the Tikka Masala, great pakora, excellent cultural atmosphere and near flawless service for years(lunch buffet only because of the excellent deal!), I found myself a new favorite dish here. The Vegetable Majestic is an incredible, spicy dish with dumplings and chili peppers for you to dip naan in(garlic of course!). I have never eaten such great Indian cuisine for such a bargain, despite the dozen or so places across America that I’ve tried. I hope to keep coming here for years to come and will always recommend it as the best restaurant in Carmel. 5 stars.

I count Amber as one of the best Indian restaurants on the north side. The review is for their lunch buffet: — Get there early, when I went at noon the place was full. — Do try their palak paneer, I think it’s the best in Indy. — The raita(cucumber yogurt sauce) is your best friend. — Fried vegetables are so-so. — Tandoori chicken was very juicy, not dry at all. — Chicken Masala is a must, I recommend using a small bowl for the meat and a healthy serving of the sauce to dip the naan with. — The lamb is falling-off-the-bones good, a must try! — Make sure to reorder the naan when you have a piece or two left on the table, their naan is freshly made and takes a bit of time to come out. — Coupon is available for the lunch buffet for those looking to save a bit of money. The only thing I wish they had would be the chicken vindaloo in their lunch offering, but it’s absolutely worth a trip for just the lunch buffet.

My experience with Indian food is pretty limited, but this restaurant has a very nice lunch buffet. Plenty of options, most of which was very tasty. My favorites were the chicken/mushroom marsalas, some kind of red colored garlic chicken dish, and I didn’t catch the name of the other one, but it was also red and pretty soupy, but it had a really nice spiciness to it which I really liked! Plus Indian food has turned me and my whole family on to naan bread, which we now buy in bulk at Costco. ;) I’m terrible with the names of dishes, but I was hoping to find the fried dumplings that are filled with chicken and curry stuffing, but they did not have this on the buffet. *The only thing I would say is that the wait staff did not look particularly thrilled to be there. Not a single server in the whole restaurant with a smile on their face… but they were not rude, so I guess it was fine. Would have been nice to see someone seemingly happy.

This is the buffet we talk about. I live in Seattle and every time we go to a different/new Indian buffet locally we always compare it to Amber. You absolutely cannot beat this place. The price is reasonable and on-par with other Indian buffets. The selection and flavor is where they win though. There are just so many different options and they are all so delicious. It’s tough to choose. We’ve been to Indian buffets where everything tastes very similar… this is not the case at all. If you are a fan of Indian food then you need to make it a point to stop by Amber for their lunch buffet. You will make it a point to come back and thank this Unilocal review for the recommendation because you will be so grateful… that’s how good it is.

Thus far, Amber is my favorite Indian place ever. The décor is classy, though during lunch sometimes they have bollywood music playing pretty loudly. The staff are always very friendly. And of course, the food is delicious. Though it’s a little expensive, you get a large amount of food plus naan and it tastes great so it is definitely worth it.

The first time having Indian food and I was impressed! It’s now our go to place! The lunch buffet is perfect for trying new things as they have many different options and something for everyone. The flavors are incredible, and the naan is amazing. The garlic naan and butter chicken are my favorite! It’s a must go to place if you’re looking for something different with quality food. The service is always great as well. They never let my glass go empty. The staff is friendly and inviting. Amber place is now one of my favorite spots!

Walked in on a Saturday afternoon and the aroma of the spices hit me immediately — a perfect succulent blend of scents. The buffet is two tables and a bit larger than your standard buffet. The spiced chicken was to die for. The palak paneer standard, but good. Butter chicken tasted like butter chicken(I’m not a huge fan of this dish). The goat curry was good but maybe a smidge more grease than I prefer. Channa masala was good. Everything was good and surprisingly with a kick of spice! Way spicier than your standard Indian buffet! I both liked and disliked that the naan is provided to you per table — it was fresher this way but less convenient(wait time wasn’t terribly long, but one does not go to a buffet to wait!). Disappointed that the naan was of the thinner variety, which was prone to one order being more crispy rather than soft delicious bread. Make sure you get the $ 1.00 coupon from Indy coupons. The final cost was still $ 10.99, which is maybe standard for a Saturday but also more than I prefer(but hey, that’s Carmel for you). Location sucks right now because of construction, so make sure you go via N Illinois rather than Meridian! Staff was not friendly but adequate-good in getting my dishes and water. I’d say thank you and sometimes they smiled or nodded. But many walked around with a curt expression.

Ok, so my first time trying Indian food. The best way I could describe it to my fellow laymen would be to call it Chinese food on crack. My sister in law got Lo mein noodles, my aunt got the fried rice, we got the Chicken tikka masala and my mother in law got buttered chicken. The chicken dishes had a slight curry taste, but not in an overpowering way. Just word to the wise! All of it was very very warm and gooey and tasty. Also, kind of super rich and maybe a tad on the greasy side. I mean good, really good, but you won’t feel up to running a marathon afterwards. Like this is the thanksgiving meal of foreign restaurants, and you’ll leave in some kind of food coma, and maybe regret it, but you’ll still want to go back for more later, because you’ll crave all of that ooey gooey goodness. Definitely will be back sometime, after I’ve fully paid penance for the sinful meal I just consumed.(I have a feeling it’s going to happen tonight…)

Prepare for the start of an addiction. At least to garlic naan, rice pudding desert and Mango Lassi(yogurt mango drink only rivaled by and w but stronger on flavor than mango shake). It is impossible to stop eating/drinking either one of those until they are gone(and then they start haunting you in your dreams until you come back). The lunch buffet is a great time to sample a bit of everything, but I usually make it to the area at dinner time. Last time tried goat Kahari(where else in Indiana are you going to try goat?) and kept stealing pieces of Amber special chicken and lamb kebob off of the kids’ plates. The goat was a stew of traditionally bony chunks. I loved the kebob with spices ground right into the meat, but it was a bit intense for a kid’s palate. The winner was the chicken — just right and a crowd pleaser all around. Locally owned, friendly staff. Usually busy, but rarely a wait for a table.
