One of the most gorgeous spots you can ask for – between Carmel Beach & Monastery Beach. A little hard to find – you take Ribera Rd. off Hwy 1, and then good luck from there. Park on the street in a cul de sac, walk past the vast array of warning signs(don’t worry – nothing too dangerous, here, folks), and walk down to the trails/beach. Very accessible. One down side is some tricky ice plant roots that may trip you up, and some of the little trails to the beach can be awkward to navigate all the way to the beach – but you have plenty of choices. But compared to real hiking, it’s a cake walk. Gf & I were there a number of months ago & saw dolphins leaping in the surf. Much of the beach & trail run parallel to some swank Carmel homes & their plush back yards. Also nearby – the Portola Cross, the site where the Portola-Crespi Expedition erected a cross to signal passing ships in 1769, and Carmel Lagoon, a good bird-watching spot.(We saw three deer there yesterday.).
