Nebo Ridge Bicycles was highly recommended by some of the triathletes I know. I bought my first road bike(Cannondale synapse) here a couple years ago. The staff(Tim, Joel, Brian) were very helpful and friendly. They were very knowledgeable and patient in answering my questions and providing information as I was doing research on what to get. Their focus was helping me find a bike that fit my needs than to just sell me a bike. The test drive was really helpful. The bike fit was really important for the comfortable bike and preventing injuries. Joel did a great job in fitting me in my bike and in making the adjustments. Unfortunately, I’m now out of state, but if I were in Indy, I would still come to Nebo Ridge for any bike needs.

I have been shopping at Nebo Ridge and servicing my bikes there for over 5-years. I would strongly recommend purchasing a new bike from Nebo. Included with the purchase is a free bike fit for life. A great bike fit is critical to the riding experience and the fitters at Nebo ridge understand both the science and art or dialing it in to perfection. They will work with you over months to get things just perfect. They also stand behind their products. When my one-year-old bike had a cable stop failure, they were able to have the manufacturer replace the entire frame for free. Their strong relationship with suppliers enables an added dimension to their customer service. I find the entire staff to be extremely knowledgeable and caring — from the sales floor to the bike mechanics.

If you cycle and live inside Indianapolis, you’ve probably heard of the infamous Nebo group rides on Tuesday and Thursday. The rides start at 6 and splits riders into 4 – 5 groups. They have a group for every level of cyclist, but If you go out in the first group(racing dudes and dudettes) you are flat out crazy. The routes are marked, so if you choose a group that is too fast for your skill level you won’t get lost, just follow the marks and wait for the group behind you to catch you. If you cycle and haven’t been to the ride, I hope to see you there at some point this summer. Aside from the group rides, they have a top notch bike shop. They perform every kind of service you could imagine, have a plentiful selection of bikes to fit all needs and quite a large selection of clothing and accessories. Nebo ridge is about as good as it gets for a bike shop. I’m only giving it 4 stars because of its location. Its a catch 22. The location makes it great for the group ride because you can head north through Carmel and Zionsville, but it makes for a nightmare in weeknight rush hour traffic trying to get to the shop.

I recently had my Trek stolen and purchased a demo here. I bought some accessories and know I paid more but wanted to support them. Rode it about 150 miles and my stolen bike was recovered. They would not even take the bike back with me offering to pay a restocking fee. I was very disappointed and will not be returning.

This is a review for the CIBA training ride that goes out of Nebo on Tuesday and Thursday nights. I’m a huge fan of this ride with three groups going out at different speeds for different levels. It’s great to be able to pop in to the shop and pick up some food, fill the water bottle and use the bathroom a real nice gesture. I can’t comment on big purchases there as I have only picked up a few supplies before the ride.

For some reason each time I leave the store I’m upset. I’m not quite sure what it is… I really want to like the place because I live in Zionsville and I like to shop locally and not in big warehouse style stores like Dick’s sporting goods. I’m put off by the attitude of the people in here. I can’t quite put my finger on it, but each time I go in wanting something, I end up walking out thinking I’ll just get it somewhere else. I’m not sure if the managers of this place ever read reviews on Unilocal, but if you are a manager of Nebo Ridge and you find yourself reading this — please have a meeting with your store personnel to try to change their attitudes. One specific thing. I bought a $ 200 bike for my 4 year old daughter in there last year. I also bought a pair of training wheels which were $ 20. When I asked if they could attach the training wheels to the bike, they told me that they would have to charge a service fee for that. When I told them that I thought that would be included in the purchase they looked at me like I was trying to steal their First born child. I was thinking to myself I just spent $ 220 in your store and you’re not willing to spend five minutes to attach a pair training wheels. I still bought the bike and attached the training wheels myself. It’s the little things a store does for you that make you feel welcome. This place has never made me feel welcome. Maybe it’s that I haven’t been wearing spandex when I go in each time

They are just kinda mean and rude. When I wanted to buy a wool jersey(they had them at 60% off), they derided it as just a fashion statement. They wouldn’t give me any advice because they are just a fashion statement. Mind you, they sold them, but they talked down about them. When I asked about a frame, not specifying a color, they said«no, we can’t get it in black.» I said, «What about blue?» «Oh, yeah, they got that.» They assumed I wouldn’t want a bike if it’s not it black! When I asked about fitting, they charged more than any other place, and said«well, I guess you should have bought your bike from us.» Also, they marked up some gloves that I have seen all over the net and in stores by 48%! Perhaps they weren’t «sporty» enough for them to charge a reasonable price. Imagine every stereotype of the arrogant road cyclist who own a racing shop, this is it. They fail to understand that some people use bikes for transportation, not just for sport. They don’t carry locks, and talk down to you if you want what they don’t have(or in some cases, stuff they do have). It’s not that they are a race-oriented shop that bothers me, its that they look down upon those who don’t think and ride like them. I don’t do intolerance. Pass.

I had my bikes serviced here once, and thought the tune-up price was fair and I got them back pretty quickly. The salespeople are also friendly and let me take 2 bikes out in the parking lot last weekend to check for fit. They’ll make you an espresso if you’re waiting around! They used to have a larger selection of commuter bikes, including Kona, and now it is mainly road bikes and mountain bikes with a side room for city comfort/cruiser bikes and kids bikes. I’m thinking there’s probably not a huge market for commuter bikes in western Carmel, so I really can’t blame them for cutting back what they have in the store. BUT they will order bikes for you, if they don’t have the model you want in stock. Also sold here are helmets, shoes, spandex clothes, energy liquids and bars, water bottles, reflectors, bells, pumps, tape, and pretty much any other accessory you could need for your bike.

This bike shop seems to cater more to hardcore racers and casual cruisers than to bike commuters. I had a gift certificate to Nebo Ridge so I stopped by to use it. There weren’t enough staff in the store to handle the number of people in the shop, and it was difficult to find some things on my own. I wanted a U-lock but was told by a staff person that they don’t carry them because he doesn’t like them. I still found something else I needed but, for the size of the store, their selection of commuting accessories is limited.
