Steak & Shake

Arrived at 2:30 in the afternoon. The restaurant was mostly empty, but it took 5 minutes for anyone to acknowledge us at the hostess station. Finally got seated and ordered burgers and fries. We didn’t see the waitress for another 30 minutes. I finally went to the counter to inquire and saw the explanation: No one was cooking. Finally the food arrived with a sullen apology for the wait. Mediocre food, as usual. Restaurant seemed dirty to me; bathroom was kinda gross. The whole visit wad disappointing, and I won’t be back. There are too many other better options for casual burgers and fries.

Sloooooow service for the drive-​thru. We waited about 15 minutes from start to finish, which is ridiculous for a fast-​food place. It’s not like they’re preparing things made-​to-​order, so I’m not sure why the drive-​thru was so slow.
Then, after we finally receive our food, I reach into the bag and the fries are cold. Womp womp.

Generally, I like steak and shake… I like it a LOT. The food is always good here, but I can honestly say I’ve never had great service here… certainly not up to par with other ones in the area. This is the red headed stepchild of Steak and Shakes.

Service is always quick an food is always consistent. Especially as it’s fast food, step above McDonalds

Worst Steak ‘n Shake Ive EVER been to. My party of 6 stood at the front door for, no lie, 15 minutes. We weren’t the first or the last people waiting to be seated; there was a large crowd building up by the door, maybe 20 people. This was at 1pm and they only had 2 servers total. Our server was very sharp and testy the very little time she dealt with us, slamming drinks on the table. The food took 20+ minutes to come out, a long time for Steak ‘n Shake. When the food did come out, it was incomplete. The fries tasted old and tough.
I’ve been a waitress for years in various restaurants and this was just plain ridiculous. No excuse.

This place sucks. I mean, we all know what we are getting with food but service is below average. The last time I went for lunch with the kids, we were ignored for nearly 20 minutes. I asked for a server and they couldn’t figure out or perhaps, weren’t interested in assisting us. My kiddos were being rockstars but the staff was subpar, backed up and somehow it became MY issue that someone didn’t show up that day. We weren’t offered anything in terms of compensation and the kid who waited on us didn’t apologize. He just mumbled and mischarged me for my meal. I know we will be back b/​c we love endless pancakes and kids eat free, but you CERTAINLY get what you pay for, so heed this warning.

This place is awful… really all of the chains are but Carmel’s in particular. Even for a milkshake it’s expensive for the underwhelming taste, high price, slow service, and and atmosphere. And this location is just gross. I would love to be all about it but can’t do it. Just can’t. I’d give 0 stars if I could.

i think all steak & shakes are slow and overpriced. They seem to all have poor service. The do have some of the best hangover food around. I particularly love their chili and they have a salted pretzel shake that is the perfect salty-​sweet for any ladies suffering with pms cravings. :)

The hash browns are terrible and the breakfast skillets are not like the picture. When we complained about the quality of the hash browns they did nothing! I would not go back for breakfast.

Four friends and I went to this steak and shake and they sat and looked at us while refusing to seat us. The whole restaurant was a mess as well. When we ordered a booth in the drive through, they were quite rude and used crude language against us. Overall, I would not even recommend this steak and shake to my worst enemies.

Terrible service every time i have been there in the last 6 months. Drive to Westfield. Trust me.
I had 3 – 5 servers look at me while waiting to be seated. No one helped me. There were only 8 tables at the time? Maybe everyone sat down at once and they were all making drinks? NO. They were standing in line to use the machine, or just standing there. After we were seated, we sat at our table for 5 – 10 minutes while a server bussed 1 table. (shouldve taken 1 minute, it wasn’t very full) Terrible terrible service. Manager doesn’t seem to notice or maybe she doesn’t care?

We usually go to S&S at least once when we are in Indy. Lorenza ordered her standard Frisco Melt with a side of beans. I ordered one of there new spicy chicken pepper sandwiches, forgot the name.
When served I asked for Frank’s Hot Sauce. When I went I went to apply it I discovered I had the Hamburger version! I very rarely eat red meat, but being hungry ate it and found it to be delicious!
As I devoured the burger, I noticed Lorenza grimacing as she took a second bite of the Frisco Melt. She stopped and deconstructed the sandwich too discover a very over cooked and dry burger in side. We called the server over and asked if the had a new cook. No she said and agreed to sandwich was unacceptable. She quickly replaced it with one which delighted my wife.
The manager came over and apologized and took the charge for the Frisco melt off our bill.
Compliments to addressing a potential disaster. My biggest question is how did this shoe leather quality sandwich get passed an experienced chef. Mistakes happen, but there is no excuse for this sloppiness. Steak and Shake risked the possibility of losing a long time customer. Good customer service saved it!

The service is decent and friendly. The prices are a little higher than what I am used to in a more causal restaurant. However, the food is good, the shakes are delicious and the staff is friendly.
