I really wanted my 11 month old to get his first real haircut done professionally. He has his first birthday party celebration coming up and I did t want him looking scraggily. I went to hair story and asked if my baby was too young, bc the sign said $ 20 for kids. They said to come on in, but asked us to have him sit in the grocery cart as they didn’t have a chair for such a small one.
They did all they could to keep him occupied as Ann did the fasted haircut ever… It only took her about 5 minutes but baby never looked so good! I was amazed at how quick and good she could cut hair!
I will definitely be bringing baby boy back for his haircuts… We drive 3 hours to get there… But it’s worth it, we can get groceries at the Korean store and get a decent meal…

Gena is a great stylist and her cuts are laser precise! I am Caucasian with blond wavy hair. I have tons of gray so I get all over color at the roots. She spends a lot of time checking and rechecking to make sure the cut is right. Although my Korean is limited, all I have to do is show her a picture and she gets it spot on. Prices are very competitive! Love this place!

As everyone says, this salon is located inside H-​Mart, run exclusively by Korean stylists. As a result, not all of them will be fluent in English. I had my hair cut on Saturday by a stylist named Sooyoung Kim (I believe that was her name, anyway), and she was generally nice, even though she spoke little English. The haircut costs $ 30 for women (excluding tips, of course), which I thought was fairly reasonable, given the shampooing treatment. I saw people being offered tea while they were waiting for their digital perms to finish, which was a nice touch!
In general, I thought Sooyoung did a meticulous and thoughtful haircut. I let her pick whatever style she think would work, and it was a very straight-​forward cut. Due to the language barrier, not much small talk was exchanged (not that I mind), but she was still very friendly as much as she can be knowing little English. All in all, I liked the treatment; she explained ways to take care of my style, the products she used in my hair, etc. She did the extra mile, imo. I’d say this visit was completely worth it. :D (And oh yes, I like my new hair!)

This salon is located inside of H-​Mart, I was unsure about going here since they are used to working with Asian hair types, and I have Hispanic — curly, thick hair. But the owner did surprisingly well! I really liked the results, and she styled my hair afterwards, which made me feel pretty confident throughout the day. I think I would’ve liked to keep more length, but today I am going to try again.

A cashier in the Hmart told me she got her hair cut from here and I decided to go.
I’m really skittish over my hair. I asked if they spoke English, because I had problems with a non English speaker who cut my hair… disastrously to the point that my hair became a very short bob.
I asked many questions before I settled into the chair. The guy who worked on my hair to be honest… doesn’t seem to know much English (so if you are very picky, don’t come here unless you know some Korean). I asked, «You speak English?» He went, «Uh Huh» (to be honest they speak money and so they said yes) but he didn’t understand some of the comments I was making about which products to use or how to layer my hair. He was just quiet.
He cut my hair and thinned it out. They don’t use a thermal protective product before they iron your hair. I took a look in the mirror and was very happy with the result. However, I went home and had issues with my hair later. It’s not refined or clean. It’s like a hair school student cut it… Some parts of my hair flip the other way even with products and blow dry at home.
TERRIBLY DISAPPOINTED

This was THE worst haircut I’ve gotten since I’ve been in middle school. It was maybe partially my fault because there was an obvious language barrier — I don’t speak a lick of Korean. The reason I decided to try this place was because I’m Asian, they’re Asian, all their clients are Asian so, I figured, they must know how to cut Asian hair.
I went in with a pretty standard long, straight haircut, no bangs and requested that they just take it up an inch, keep the long layers and cut some long side swept bangs (where which I pointed to my jawline to indicate my description of long) in front. I thought this was a pretty simple haircut.
The first thing the stylist did was pull half my hair forward and make a cut straight across the length of eyebrows. WHAT.THE.EFF!!! I started screaming inside. After that, she spent 10 minutes cutting one layer of hair the length of my shoulders, and she was done. I came out with 3 very distinct layers, one the length of my eyebrows (I don’t even know what to call this, they’re not bangs given that they go back half my head), one the length of my shoulders, and the bottom layer which was untouched and shoulder blade length. I can’t do crap with the short layer that puffs up and makes me look like I have a freaking mullet so I pin it back everyday. I’ve done this FOR THE PAST 3 MONTHS. Luckily, I was able to find a stylist to fix what he could but said the only way to fix the short layer is to wait until it grows out.
This place may be great for color and treatments, but unless you speak Korean, I would NOT suggest going here for cuts.

Strangely located in the Korean food mart but don’t let that deter you. The hairstylists, at least the ones I’ve come into contact with, don’t speak English very well but they sure know how to cut Asian hair.
First of all, as a warning, I’d disclaim that I’m horrible with hair. I have absolutely no idea what would do what! So as I’m sitting in the chair, I tell my hairstylist, just cut some bangs (at the time I had none) and give me some volume… tee-​da! Awesome! She definitely knew what to do to bring out the best in my hair. Best haircut of my life (and cheapest), even days after I left the salon. Will be back!

I’ve gotten several inquiries on whether I liked my digital perm and just to clarify — yes, I did! I’m even thinking about doing it again some time.
Several months after I had the digital perm done, I went back for a hair cut and straight perm. Hair cut came out fabulous. The straight perm took about 2.5 hours and surprisingly didn’t kill my hair. It’s actually looking all nice and shiny and of course — super straight.

I came here for a hair cut and color without knowing much about salons in the greater Dallas area. With Asian hair, it’s difficult to get it right but I came out as a satisfied customer with the cut and I know the color will grow on me as it fades out a little bit. I wanted to dye it a darker red but it’s currently RED — I know I have to give it a couple of washes and then it’ll be fine but I’m still feeling a little bit of Rihanna fever… haha. In the sun, it glistens and glows with subtle highlights even though I didn’t highlight it! (SCORE!) Mina did a great job in giving me a bob — I showed her a picture and she did exactly as I wished! She was honest and really tried to communicate with me even though I didn’t know Korean. She tried to explain what she thought was best and asked others to translate for her. I’ll come back here again in the future!

hair story is responsible for transforming me into a redhead, and i am compelled to give them a glowing review.
even more so because lee ka ja hairbis, my old standby salon, refused to dye my hair. when i asked for a price quote for taking my dark asian hair up to a bright, fiery red, the girl at lee ka ja sounded as if i had called in a bomb threat. «uhhhh, you don’t want to do that,» she cautioned. «red fade fast. also very expensive. at least $ 200.» so next, i called fox hair in carrollton to receive similar price quote.
hair story, however, was much more welcoming. they gave me a tentative quote of $ 120, and did not react as if i was requesting that a swastika be shaved into my skull. they upped the price a bit upon seeing me in person, due to the thickness and length, but i can’t blame them. i won the genetics jackpot of hair volume.
several stylists were responsible for the arduous process of bleaching my hair multiple times, dying, cutting, and styling. all of them were friendly, despite the language barrier, and kept me supplied with iced green tea. their initial time estimate was 3 hours, and it ended up taking exactly 3 hours. end result: fierce. i have no complaints about the outcome.
as a word of caution, the stylists here were no more gentle than my girl susan at lee ka ja. there was a lot of forceful jerking and ripping of knots. i’m not concerned about scalp pain or losing my hair, but i know that this is a particular hazard to some women.
prices are similar to other local korean salons: $ 25 for a ladycut, $ 20 for men. during my three hours here, i watched a few patrons get excellent haircuts. my friend, who was severely averse to the idea of paying more than $ 10 for a cut, was pressured into getting one while waiting on me to get thoroughly bleached. it ended up looking fantastic, and he admitted that it was the best haircut of his life. total endorsement, y’all.
