Loved them in MDR, love them in Carson! When you walk in and the owner knows your name it can get no better. The food is authentic and quite flavorful. I truly believe someone puts their foot in it to make it taste so good lol. But in all seriousness this place is great and you have to have the jambalaya!

I’m back from vacay, but sorry its another Mediocre Monday! I dropped by Darrow’s after reading some positive reviews, and venturing outside my Gardena/Torrance bubble for lunch. They offer po’boys and N’Awlins sides like red beans & rice and jambalaya. It is located in the City Center in Carson at Avalon & Carson(parking is free). I ordered the oyster po’boy combo($ 13 | po’boy w/a side and a drink). I chose jambalaya for my side. The three items individually would have cost $ 16. BTW, their fancy Coca Cola machine doesn’t serve iced tea — WTF?! First of all, the po’boy was good, but not great. The oysters had nice cornmeal batter. However, for the price there were only 4 oysters. Sal’s Gumbo Shack in LBC and Little Jewel of New Orleans in Chinatown make a much better po’boy. For example, Sal’s po’boy is packed and includes fries for $ 10(the same price that Darrow’s charges just for the sandwich). Additionally, Little Jewel’s sandwiches are bigger and packed with a ton of seafood for not much more $: 3 Stars. Likewise, the jambalaya was good, but not great. The rice was a tad dry, and there wasn’t a flavor burst I was expecting from this classic N’Awlins dish: 3 Stars. The ambiance is a bit contrived, but there is a bar: 3 Stars. On the other hand, the cashier on Mon, 5⁄9 @ lunch was super nice. She brought my food, offered me sauces, and cleared my tray: 5 Stars for her. Darrow’s offers a decent rendition of N’Awlins cuisine, but I wouldn’t go out of my way to come here. I belIeve there is better N’Awlins style cuisine in the South Bay in Inglewood at Orleans & York Deli.

This restaurant has amazing food, but also incredible service. They gave us samples! The owner was there and told us all about the history of the place. We felt like family. The shrimp po boy was awesome and you have to get the gator sweat sauce. My husband LOVED the crab gumbo and licked the bowl. Great great Cajun spot. Must go!

Wow!!! Now this what you call exceptional service! My daughter and I walk in and immediately greeted by Mr. Kevin, introduces himself, asked us if it was our first time dining. When we told him«yes» he had us to take a seat and said he would bring us some samples: red beans & rice(which is vegetarian. Yay! And it was pretty tasty), jambalaya(didn’t eat because it wasn’t vegetarian. According to my daughter it was really good), and the gumbo(without all the fixings. It was just the juice. Uh, um… didn’t care for it at all and neither did my daughter). I ended up ordering the Shrimp po’boy special, which comes with one side and a sof drink or bottled water for $ 13.00. I choose the collard green. The greens were vegetarian. Again another score since I’m a pescatarian. The greens were my favorite out of the sides I sampled. Seasoned well and tender! As far as the po’boy, I am a po’boy connoisseur lol. So you gotta come correct with the po’boys. This po’boy was good but not great. The shrimp was fried, could have been just a tadbit more seasoned(again I know me some po’boys lol. I’m sure others might find it flavored). The sandwich was kind of small, might I add. Couldn’t leave without taking some dessert to go…‘nana(banana) pudding was what I went with. Now that was good! Wasn’t too sweet. Just right! Only thing, I would have preferred more Nilla Wafers. There were only 4. I like ALOT in my nana pudding lol. The staff is super friendly, which is most definitely a plus! The restaurant is very spacious and clean. There’s a bar inside, and I spotted a daiquiri machine. Can’t have a cajun creole joint without the New Orleans daiquiri machine. I didnt get a change to partake in any adult beverages. But next time I will definitely have a Hurricane and see if it’s anything like a true New Orleans hurricane. My dad is from New Orleans and is one hell of a cajun creole cook, so that’s why I am a stickler when it comes to cajun creole and my palate will let me know lol). I will be for sure returning! Parking is located in the underground parking structure(beneath the apartment complex).

Very few places, I rate as a five! This food was amazing. Seasoned so well it reminded me of New Orleans flavors. So impressed I hired them to cater my anniversary party this month. They did not disappoint. All my guests kept commenting about how good the food was. And their customer service compares to none. I was truly impressed. Great food and great customer service. Can’t go wrong with this place. Also don’t pass on that pear cobbler. It will bring you to happy food tears!!! Thanks Darryl for helping to make our party a success. Only tip: Hope you expand their restaurant menu to include items from the catering menu such as the shrimp ettoufee. It was unbelievable.

Came here for lunch today with a co worker after hearing from our other co workers who went here the other day and raved about this place so we decided to give it try. This is located next to IHOP on the Avalon street side you can park in the structure behind the parking can get packed depending on the time of day you go. The place has a pretty good amount of tables to sit inside as well you can sit outside. The staff was very friendly. As we sat down one of the gals gave us the menus and told us we go up to the and order and while we are deciding she brought us samples of some of their sides, collard greens, rice and jambalaya all in tiny cups just a tiny bite size of each to get a taste which was cool. I ordered the shrimp Po boy sandwich combo with Cajun fries. They have hot sauces and their own gator sauce which is ranch mixed with a green sauce I forgot what it was called but it was good. Their breads are made fresh to order too. Overall a great little place for lunch or dinner I will be back.

Great vibe!!! I love the Happy Hour and the fact that they sell Alcohol. The food is pretty good… I typically get the Shrimp Po-Boy and the Banana Pudding is amazing!!! I would like them to expand the menu a little more, not a lot of options. I’ve tried the friend chicken, shrimp po-boy, fries, banana pudding, chicken salad, red beans and rice and the greens. So far, everything was good except the greens. It’s worth going. A great place to just pop in and get a quick bite to eat.

By far the best service I have experienced. It was my first time in and everyone from the servers to the bartender to the owner were very welcoming. As soon as you walk in they offer samples of the sides. I tried red beans and jambalaya, lucky me they offer a side mixed with both. I ordered a shrimp poboy sandwich as well as the red beans jambalaya mix. The BEST! I can’t forget about the BARTENDER! He was such a sweetheart, I got two daiquiris, the hurricane and the coconut rum with strawberry. Overall a great experience and I forgot to mention the most important part, it’s clean and lots of room. I would recommend this to anyone looking for New Orleans style food.

The food is the best Creole food I’ve had in the Los Angeles area. I had the Bayou Classic(Shrimp & Oyster) Po Boy and it was exquisite. The bread was toasted perfectly with a generous amount of jumbo shrimp & oysters dressed with pickles, tomatoes and lettuce. The gator sauce(spicy ranch) is a must! I also had the rum punch, which lives up to the name packing a mean punch. My boyfriend and I were also greeted with free samples, you can’t beat that. The owner is also very sweet and welcoming. I’ll be back to try the Hurricane and Beignets since I didn’t have time for it the first time around.

We eat here quite often and highly recommend anyone to come. We didn’t grow up with this culture of food but we love it! You need to come and experience this a few times since there are multiple favorite items to try. Also if you like a little kick and awesome flavor, ask for their«Gator Sweat» sauce. I love this place. Parking is free for 2 hours in the parking garage. The restaurant is set up very nicely and clean. My husband and I stumbled on this place searching for something new around town, since our previous plans had cancelled. Boy are we glad those plans got cancelled. The drinks were delicious! We both had frozen margaritas and they were good. We only needed two! That’s how good they were. We only snacked on appetizers since we are prior(because of our previous arrangement that got cancelled) but they were so good. We shared a beans and rice and a order of bread.(I know weird but we were already full) the bread was good. Light fluffy and flavorful. We meet some regulars who said they’ve always enjoyed the food and atmosphere. We will definitely be going back to order off the full menu.

Found a very small piece of glass in my chicken po boy sandwich. Thought it was just something really crunchy but it was a tiny piece of shattered glass. Ended up swallowing a little bit of it too. Called and spoke to the manager and she tried to assure me that they use absolutely no glass around their food. As far as preparation of the food I can see/agree with that but she was trying to make it seem like there’s absolutely no glass in the entire kitchen that can accidentally shatter and somehow end up near food. I felt that I had to argue my point more than she was apologetic about it. She offered to make another sandwich. I rarely write reviews but I feel like I had to mention this incident. Aside the whole glass thing, the food was still pretty good and the staff was very friendly.

I’ve been looking for a good cajun spot serving up some Nawlins style po’ boys and gumbo. And I found this gem. The first time I went there, the lady at the cashier stand(don’t remember her name) was so nice, welcoming, and accommodating. She brought us samples of their red beans and rice, gumbo, and jambalaya to help us make our decisions. Our experience was so good, we brought some friends back a couple days later. I love both the Zeek and the Bayou Classic po’ boys. The Zeek comes with friend catfish, shrimp, and tater/potato salad. The tater salad sound odd, but it’s actually REALLYGOOD. The Bayou Classic comes with shrimp and oyster. I loved that they’re battered with cornmeal, and they are extra crispy without being too greasy. I ordered my Bayou Classic dressed with everything, because it’s how it should be eaten. We got those as combos, which comes with sides. I’ve tried their red beans and rice, jumbalaya, their bean balaya(combo of red beans and rice and jumbalaya), and the cajun fries. All of them are good. You really can’t go wrong with Now… for their gumbo… Their gumbo is one of the best I have had outside of Nawlins! The File Gumbo Yaya came with seafood in it too. It was absolutely amazing. So flavorful. The gumbo is nice and dark, indicative of a nice dark roux. I have yet to try their rum drinks(hurricanes and daiquiris anyone?), but I’ll be back for everything :)

Randomly found this place on Unilocal while looking for some place to eat. The only other creole place I know about is in china town so I was interested to see how this place measured up. First off, I think he was the owner, but he was extremely kind and explained the menu and offered samples. He really went out of his way to make us feel welcomed. Right off the bat, it was a pleasant experience. Here’s what we got: Chicken sausage po boy — this was really good. Well seasoned and flavorful. I’d definitely get this again. It’s kind of like choripan if you’ve had that before. Simple and delicious. Zeek po boy — this had fried fish, oyster, and shrimp in it. This also comes with tater(potato) salad which you can get in the sandwich or on the side. I asked and the cashier said in the sandwich is the poplar way so that’s how I got it. It was honestly a little too fishy for me. I would go back and try just the shrimp po boy though for sure. Cajun bowl — this was ground turkey with jambalaya, lettuce, tomato, cheese. Very simple. The turkey was honestly over powering for me. I tasted the jambalaya on its own when the owner offered samples and it was good but I feel like that flavor got lost in the bowl. With that said, it was still really tasty. It’s almost like a chili bowl with rice. Gumbo — this was VERY good. It was spicy and had a bunch of seafood and sausage. Served with rice. It felt so home-y. Something I feel like you can eat when you’re sick. It was flavored well and super tasty. I’d definitely get this over and over again. It’s served with toast on the side. Sides: Collared greens — tasted good and well seasoned. Definitely helped with all the heavy fried foods. Rice and beans — again, well seasoned and tasty. Dessert — unfortunately, they ran out of beignets so I had to substitute for sweet potato pie. It was hot, flaky, pastry dough with a sweet potato filling. It was good. Small size definitely not meant for sharing. I could probably eat at least 4 of those. Haha They also have a few blended cocktails and beer on tap which was cool and fairly priced. Overall, food + service/hospitality = 4 stars. I’d come back to check out some other things on the menu.

It took me way too long to write this review lol but I’ve just been so busy with work and school. This place has only been open for a few months now and they are really doing a good job starting off. First I have to say what really stood out was the owner of this establishment. He was greeting everyone that came and had converse with people that were eating just to make sure everything was ok. I really like that when the owner is that immersed with there customers. He greeted my girlfriend and I and really made us feel at home giving that type of atmosphere there. Second the bartender was super coo and really entertained his customers. The drinks were so delicious and really hit the spot. The bar area is a nice fit for the size of that building and really works well with all the different drinks they have to offer. Happy hour was just that much better. Third the food was sooooo good, you can’t really go wrong with Cajun food right lol. They have a good menu with a good selection of different food and sides to choose from. I had the shrimp Po boy which was sooo delicious. The prices are good also and really doesn’t dip too much into your pockets. All in all I love this place and the people there. I will definitely go back again for happy hour to enjoy the good vibes and good food

The interior is clean and new and there’s a parking garage that makes it convenient getting in and out. There are TV’s up with a bar and overall it’s a good atmosphere inside. It’s more of a sit down place. The service is very good and the staff was very pleasant. I ordered a po boy and gumbo to go. I was kinda«eh» about the food. I thought the shrimp po boy was good at the time especially with the gator sauce. Since then I’ve eaten at some competing restaurants around the area. The Po Boy wasn’t bad but it isn’t as good as some of the other places around. Considering the portion size relative to the price, their Darrow’s Po Boy is pretty pricey. Granted I’ve never had gumbo before, it just wasn’t good any way you cut it. There was sausage, shrimp, and crab in it but somehow it all tasted like a dirt soup. Everyone/every business is entitled to a bad day so I’ll just chalk it up to that. for now. The service was good, the owners are nice, and I love supporting minority owned businesses. Unfortunately for them, there are other similar options within a mile radius that offer more value for the price. This was about a month or so after they first opened so I’ll give it another shot but for now I’m still luke warm

Great new find! Initial vibe is take out as you order at the counter and the overall ambience is fast food takeout. Then you notice the rum bar and listen to the great music playing and decide to take a seat. After ordering a Hurricane drink you decide to stay because the bartender Felton offers great customer service and has an awesome personality. Then you get to taste this delicious Zeke Po Boy. Don’t forget to add the«gator sweat sauce» it enhances the sandwich. The«tater salad» on the sandwich really made it! We will definitely go back. The only reason I didn’t give it five stars — the beignets weren’t cooked through and they were gooey on the inside. But like I mentioned earlier great customer service — in the blink of an eye they whipped up another batch and had me take them home. This is a new restaurant and I wasn’t even going to mention the desert snafu but I am very thankful when I read a thorough review. They also offer a full bar. I found this restaurant on Unilocal they had a little icon that said«Hot New».

*** I miss having Uncle Darrow’s near the Marina. *** However I do admit this new location is much better. Why? Well, it is in a fresh recently constructed bldg. And more importantly, there is a full RUMBAR also. Various sweet drinks for the ladies while guys enjoy draft beers and various other liquors. Trifecta here. File Gumbo Ya-Ya really hit the spot. It’s hearty … 5 Chunks of fish, soft shell crab and andouille sausage in spicy brown broth topped w/a scoop of jambalaya. Fried Chicken Breast Strips are thin, crisp, tasty … 5 Very well seasoned w/hot and green dipping sauces. Yes, I double dipped! Both sauces uniquely flavorful. Beignets are good but heavier than I would prefer … 2 The lighter the beignet, the better. These? Too heavy. Hurricane drink is best. She was toasted in 3 sips … 5 My IPA was well balanced, and relatively cheap at $ 6. Ambiance is nice. Fresh murals, flat TV over bar … 3 But the plastic cutlery and plates aren’t a good touch. Marble countertops, yet plastic forks? No, no bueno. It gives me the feeling of eating in an airport terminal. C’mon Darrow, pony up and get some dishes already. *** Good casual joint to grab a bite or game maybe. ***

I wasn’t given the potato salad and the sandwich didn’t have anything on it besides the seafood, there was no mayo or veggies. I think the seafood was well seasoned but overall I was underwhelmed. I just got back from a trip from NOLA a few weeks ago and this is perfect. Close by and truly hits that Creole/Cajun cravings. I get my Brooklyn style pizza from a man who had his own pizza shop in Brooklyn and now I can get my New Orleans food from a man who’s cooked in those kitchens there with his family many many years before bringing it here for us to enjoy. First let me start by saying, the customer service here is AMAZING! I know when a place first opens up, everyone tends to be nice and sweet but everyone from the manager, girl who took my order and one of the guys behind the glass assembling food were all nice to me. Food I ordered the Zeek PoBoy with a side of Jumbalaya and excuse my language but the shit was bomb!!! It was so good! The PoBoy had fried shrimp, fried catfish and potato salad inside of it and the fish was super crispy and the shrimp was really juicy. Surprisingly, the potato salad was made just how I like it, with very little sweetness and cubes of potatoes that you can actually taste! Also, the baguette was nice and flaky and wasn’t super thick like you sometimes come across. It didn’t make the whole sandwich bread(y). At first I thought the jumbalaya was the best, until I tried my PoBoy. Then when I went back to my jumbalaya, it wasn’t as good as I thought it was lol. But still flavorful. The gator sweat which is a seasoned, green mayonnaise sauce was really good too. I only needed 2 little cups for my PoBoy and I still had some left to take home and put on something else lol. All in all, I will def be back to Darrows, SOON… Hell, maybe even today!

My co-workers and I were looking forward to trying this place. We all seen it on separate occasions since we work close by and even planned ahead and decided to do a phone order, to-go, that Tuesday. Be aware: NOPHONEORDERS. ONLINEORDERS are set for an LA location so we didn’t even try that option. After finding out the bad news, I compiled everyone’s orders and drove out before work. I arrived and began my order but was notified we looked at the wrong menu(we looked at a menu available online…) so I sent out a massive group text to everyone and waited. Everyone ended up changing their orders completely because they didn’t carry«suppers»; only po’boys, wraps, bowls, and other miscellaneous sides. I stuck with my original order(Veggie Po’Boy) but added on a few dessert options since they were also out of beignets that day. Overall, guest service was AMAZING! All the workers were so nice and answered my questions. The place had nice interior décor and also a small bar to order some drinks. I did not dine in but it was clean and workers were walking around and making sure tables were kept, etc. Food-wise, I LOVED my sandwich. I could do without the cajun pups(hushpuppies) but I think they might be better when hot. Everyone else seemed to enjoy their meal. My friend LOVED the pear cobbler. Some suggestions: add to their main site that they do not receive phone orders and MAYBE add some daily specials. I would have also suggested to upload their new menu and change their website BUT it seems like they already did that :) I’ll definitely be coming back with friends. Not a lot of creole food places have options for Vegetarians so THANKYOU!

A couple of friends and I wanted to try the new restaurant in town and it was not a disappointment. PARKING: you can find ample parking within the parking structure. AMBIANCE: As you enter the restaurant you are hit with all the aromas and spices. It smells fantastic. Decorations is very clean and sleek and there is a giant mural that covers then entire left wall. SERVICE: This was our first time here and we were all new to this type of cuisine, but there workers were so helpful and gave us a few samples and answered all our questions. FOOD: I ordered the Zeek Po’ Boy with a side of jambalaya and it was very good. The Po’ Boy had catfish and shrimp in it. We had a side of ‘Gator Sweat’(speciality ranch) with the Po’ Boy and it just enhanced the flavor and overall composition of the sandwich. Overall, if you haven’t had New Orleans cuisine you should stop by here. Unfortunately we didn’t get to try their gumbo because they only sell if after 5PM. They also said to look out for a breakfast menu which will have chicken and waffles!!!

We had the sandwich combo with a side and drink. It was $ 11 for the catfish combo. A bit expensive for a sandwich combo but I had greens so that is different and I can understand paying more. The catfish was nothing to be excited about. Not much flavor and fell apart. I’m not sure if it was pieces of catfish or nuggets but a fillet would’ve been best for a sandwich. The greens were good and flavorful. Now the service… everyone was friendly but my fiancé’s meal came out, he ate, and I was still waiting for my catfish sandwich. I started eating once he finished. Food should come to the table at the same time. There was a lady with regular clothes on, she stepped into the kitchen, put on gloves and started handling the food. An apron would’ve been appropriate and pulling her hair back. She had on a neck scarf that was dangling also. Not a sanitary look. We sampled the gumbo. It was flavorful but, again, expensive. I understand the need to pay for great food but not when everything is self-serve. The décor and ambiance were great. Food is average. Service needs some work. ** In response to the owner’s question: I’ve visited the Venice location and was looking forward to this location opening. Thank you for taking my observations and comments into consideration. I don’t mind paying the $ but it should be worth it. My initial thoughts were the greens could justify the price because it’s a sandwich combo but at the end of my experience, I didn’t felt justified anymore for paying the price because it fell apart and lacked taste. Best wishes in your new venture.

The PO-BOYS were FANTASTIC, as was the hurricane. I love, love love the ambiance of this spot and the staff are very nice! I will definitely put this on my list of favs in the area. The only shortcoming for me was the beignets, which were a little heavy and not that melt in your mouth light that I desire.

This is a recently opened spot. The food was very flavorful, however portion sizes are on the small size and may not fill you up depending on how hungry you are. I got the turkey sausage po boy with a side of greens. Both were very flavorful. Since it’s new it needs some work on customer service. The menus are not available until you get to the register, which holds up the line. Samples of sides are offered at the register, which is a good idea but also holds up the line if there are people waiting. The food was ready fairly quickly but there were some issues with the fancy soda machine. Parking is in the underground structure. All in all a new good spot to try.

Been going for 10+ years at the old location. All the food is just as good as it was, with much better ambiance!!! Love your food guys! First timers, the Zeek is a must.

The food was very good and not very expensive. My Po Boy was not oozing with grease like the Po boy’s I have gotten at other places. I highly recommend this place.

If I could give this place 10 stars I would. Last night was the first time I had even heard of this place, and when I walked in the first thing I noticed was«RUMBAR»(I headed strait for it). As soon as I sat at the bar I was greeted by the most kind(and gorgeous) bartender named Char. She was absolutely AMAZING(and not to mention she makes a killer Manhattan and French Connection). The gumbo there is to DIE for and they bring it to you piping hot! I could go on and on about this place, but for now, I recommend that if you’re in the area, you stop what your doing and give this place a try. Wonderful place and wonderful people.

Went to soft opening. Had a delicious Zeke Po’Boy and Cajun fries. Yum! Chicken wings were best I’ve had, served as the whole wing, crispy and hot. Staff very friendly. Can’t wait for rum bar to open. Mural inside is beautiful! Looking forward to my next visit!

I live in North Hollywood, so I made the trip all the way to Carson to have a Zeek po boy. I use to go the their old Marina Del Rey location and I’m happy to see they’ve found a nice new home. It’s the same delicious food, great customer service, and friendly and welcoming staff. They have a bar in this one, which was a nice surprise. I’ll be stopping by whenever I’m in the area. Congrats to Norwood and the whole Uncle Darrow’s family.

We tried the PO’BOY with catfish and the other with shrimp with oysters. The bread is little tough. But the catfish is on point and very flavorful. The shrimp and oyster one is ok. The sauces they provide on the side are very good, especially the green sauce one… I don’t remember what it was called it was mixed with ranch and spices and of course it’s green. I was told by another customer that the gumbo was flavorful and has a spice kick. I’ll be trying gumbo next time.

Been a fan of this place ever since my brother took me to their restaurant in Marina Del Rey. Then I found out they were opening one right by my house! This place hits the spot for me! Their zeke po boy is amazing. You can really taste each part of the sandwich in every bite you take. The shrimp really brings the sandwich together for me. And the gator sweat… I put it all over my sandwich. Gotta have it and I add a little tartar with some hot sauce too. If you’re ever in the area I really recommend this place!
