This place is awesome, I suggest you stop going to those other barbers and go to Juan’s. Juan, Jessica, and Cindy are the best!

New to CV and in desperate need if a haircut, I decided to give this place a try due to its proximity to BART and because it’s open until 6(according to this site and the sign out front). When I walked in at 5:30 there were no customers and one barber, an older guy with a beard. He was standing by his barber chair but tells me he was just getting ready to close. I told him I thought they were open until 6, but he insists its really 5:30. When I point out the sign in the window that says 6, he gets mad and says«What do you want me to tell you, it’s an old sign!» I was a potential new customer who lives in the neighborhood, but this place clearly doesn’t want my business. The whole thing seemed rather dubious to me.

I live in Berkeley and am always looking for an accessible, skilled, and friendly barber. I have a pretty hairy neck and need constant attention with a straight razor, so the beauty salons typically don’t work for me. So, recently, I was in Castro Valley for a meeting, but had miscalculated traffic and arrived over an hour early. I immediately started looking for a barber as I was overdue for a cut. Plus I had a job interview the next day and could really use a cleanup. I saw Juan’s Barber Shop right off the freeway & near the BART station and quickly ran in to see if they could take care of me. Not only was the haircut good, the experience was awesome as well. The barbers and the customers were very friendly and welcomed my inserting myself into their conversations. I usually just ignore everyone, but the atmosphere here was so welcoming that I just jumped right in. Even though Juan’s Barber Shop is over 25 miles from my home, I foresee my six year old son and I starting a new tradition that involves getting our haircuts in Castro Valley. Oh, take cash($ 15/cut), no credit cards accepted… but there is an ATM at the liquor store a couple of business north of the barber shop.

Juan’s is the best. I would rather shave my head then go anywhere else.

My friend Juanito is the owner of this fine barher shop. His barber shop is family friendly and Juan might be the nicest guy you’ve ever met. Hes funny and remembers all his customers names while some other places might just know you come there often. So stop by Juan’s if you ever need a new doo. located on Redwood road across the street from taco bell and near the Bart station
