If four stars mean«I’m a fan» then I feel good giving Frank Smith’s four stars, although this is a completely different shopping experience than a retail shop like Pike Nurseries or the garden section of a hardware store. They have a small staff and most of their efforts go to maintaining their vast inventory and supplying their large wholesale clients. A word about«wholesale to the public:» they won’t sell you individual plants(except for shrubs and trees), but prefer to sell in volume — one-flat minimums. There is also less emphasis on customer service — there’s rarely someone at the desk in the office when you walk in, but just holler to the back room or start perusing the grounds and someone will help you soon enough. Great selection, great advice on what plants will work in various conditions. This is the place to go if you have a general idea of what you want and a project in mind. Instant gratification for big prjects instead of ordering from a catalogue, save money on their wholesale prices, and you know the plants are hardy to our local climate.

These guys have a sign on 285 that says wholesale to the public. The attitude I got was that they didn’t wanna have anything to do with retail. No problem but don’t put up a sign that says wholesale to the public if you don’t want the business.
