For a long time, I had the same experience here as Amy B. It was a great store, it went through a couple renovations to make it nicer and easier to navigate, and the staff were friendly and(even more importantly) knew what they were doing. If I needed any chemicals, consumables, or quality-irrelevant parts, this Checker was my first stop. Then O’Reilly bought CSK Auto and they slowly began screwing it all up. This effort has culminated in its complete worthlessness. In redoing the store yet again, O’Reilly has somehow managed to make it a dingy, unwelcoming time warp. Pre-makeover they had modern printers with a nice Checker logo on your receipt and full warranty information for everything you bought. My last receipt was a bunch of cryptic shorthand crapped out onto a piece of flimsy tractor-feed paper by a yellowed dot matrix printer. I’m not sure what«progress» means in O’Reilly-land, but this ain’t progress in mine. The inventory sucks, too, which is a mysterious accomplishment given they put in taller shelving units and more of them. How do you add more retail space while not stocking half of what Checker used to? Anyone? Bueller?

I have been here a few times for stuff for my car. This morning, I stopped in to get some windshield washer fluid and decided that it was time to write a review. As someone who grew up in the motor city, worked for an aftermarket automotive company, and comes from a long line of people who takes cars seriously, I like to think I am an educated woman with some automotive history in me. When I walk into any specialty store, especially an automotive one, I like to get down to business. Everytime I come into this location, I find that its clean, the staff is nice, and they treat me with respect. They seem to always have good stock, and keep it pretty organized. If I am looking for something as simple as windshield washer fluid, or something more complex like an airfilter, I know that these guys are straight shooters. I think that thier prices are fair, but more importantly, these guys have always been professional and KNOWLEDGEABLE. I like that!
