Bear E Patch is so solid. Not only is their food good, but it’s consistently good. An important point in making a regular out of the locals, and standing out to visitors. For breakfast, Bear E Path is always my first choice. Very worth the drive from Mount Pleasant. Ive only had breakfast here, always getting the omelettes, or the skillets, and they are always awesome. The eggs aren’t heavy and laden with oil, they are stuffed, nice and full of whatever you ordered, the biscuit, the potatoes, the grits, Ive had them all, and they are always a perfect compliment to the omelette. They have plenty of options to craft the perfect breakfast at a reasonable price. The staff is always friendly, keep the coffee topped off, are quick and very efficient. They really have to be because the wait is always out the door. I cannot think of a time that I have been to Bear E Path where there was not a wait. Weekday mornings – line out the door. Weekday afternoons – line out the door. Saturday – forget it, line down the side walk. You will wait when you come to Bear E Patch, but it wont be an unreasonable wait because the staff moves quickly to get people in and out, all without feeling rushed. Perfect little diner, especially for breakfast – easily in the top 5 in the Charleston area IMO. Only two cons: The parking lot is a freaking nightmare. Its very small and cramped. Whether its their regular traffic or really busy, getting in and out of the parking lot can be a serous pain. Its really g-d awful. AND Closed on Sunday.

Only place my eight year old sister will eat all her breakfast ! She loves the chocolate chip pancakes and bacon. And they don’t add too many chocolate chips which is good, but just enough so they melt so she THINKS she is getting a lot. They always have really good specials, my favorite is their French toast creations. Service is fast and friendly too! And great prices

One of the benefits of dating someone who grew up in Charleston, aside from having to use my GPS a lot less, is being introduced to a lot of restaurants that are off the beaten tourist path. I would have never discovered Bear E Patch Café on my own and I’m very happy I did. It’s located somewhere in deep in West Ashley that I never would have stumbled upon on my own. However, it’s hardly a well kept secret because this place was hopping when we arrived for Saturday brunch. It’s a very local mom and pop vibe — complete with the Ten Commandments posted on the wall. Service was on top of it throughout the course of the meal. We had several servers taking care of us throughout the course of brunch. I had the shrimp and scallops omelet with home fries. It did not skimp on the seafood, and I in turn actually skimped on the ketchup with my eggs for once. Man caller had the blue crab omelet, and that was definitely the way to go. So much crab. Both omelets were $ 10 – 12 and very hearty. The only reason I give Bear E Patch four stars rather than five is that the atmosphere comes across as rather«hurried» due to the open diner interior and multi-server setup. The food was great, but it wasn’t a relaxing sit down meal by any means. With that said, I’ll be back regularly whenever craving a damn good omelet.

Fabulous restaurant and fabulous food at a great price. I hope that they’ll consider adding another location in the Summerville area sometime soon!

I loved this cute and quaint diner! My husband had the seafood omelette and it was LOADED with seafood. A pleasant surprise. I ordered flounder over cheese grits. It was delicious but I wish I had ordered the seafood omelette. I will next time, because there will be a next time.

Stopped by for lunch after visiting Magnolia Plantation. When walked in the place had the feel of local dinner and I expected the food to match and we where not disappointed. I had an outstanding crab melt, my one daughter ordered a burger which was cooked perfectly and my other a quesadilla. Lunch was perfect and we’ll be going back soon to try there breakfast.

‘Ello chaps! In Charleston recently for a weekend trip and came to Bear E Patch Café at a friend’s recommendation. This place is the epitaph of the South. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. The food feeds the soul and the stomach. It is by far some of the best grits I’ve had. If you’re looking for great, home cooked food with very friendly service then check out Bear E Patch!

Bear E. Patch is a very casual(almost cafeteria style) diner. We came in for breakfast, and although the place was full, with no empty tables, we did not have to wait long for seating or service. Italian Cream Cake with Berries-I would return to Charleston just for this dessert! It was excellent, with a beautiful texture, moist and fresh, homemade taste, with a delicious cream filling that was smooth and had the perfect taste, and amount of filling, in relation to the cake. Chocolate Chip Cookie-Excellent, the cookie was huge, and had the exact amount of chocolate chips to complement the perfectly moist cookie-my only regret was that I bought only one of them before we hit the road to return home. Lobster Omelette with tomatoes and cheese blend, topped with lobster bisque-there was a generous amount of crab claw meat in the omelette, and the omelette was cooked better than any that I’ve had recently. The cooks managed to cook the omelette with a fluffy, light texture, although there was too much cheese, which can easily be removed. Grits-very good texture and taste. Pancake-average. Sausage Gravy and biscuit-the biscuit had a homemade taste, but my husband did not like the sausage gravy at all, and says that Bojangles is better. The waitress did tell us that the gravy was not homemade. Bacon-crispy, perfectly cooked, with very little fat. Service-friendly and efficient. When I come back to Charleston, I’ll be hoping for another serving or two of the Italian Cream Cake with Berries, and the Chocolate Chip Cookie!

We popped into this place while we were visiting Charleston on the way to be tourists and check out one of the plantations in the area. The biggest downfall to this place was trying to narrow down the huge menu! I got a half order of the French toast and a biscuit sandwich(so hard to find good biscuits in the North!). The bread for the toast was fresh and the biscuit was nothing less than what I’d expect in the South. My husband ordered some sort of seafood plate with grits(but he subbed out the grits for potatoes), which he really enjoyed. The servers also couldn’t have been friendlier and were very accommodating. Highly recommend a stop at Bear E Patch if you’re in the area!

I would definitely pick in this patch again, because what you pick here is delicious. I have dined in on busy days and slow week day mornings. If you are like me and might want a to go order from time to time be careful because they restrict it on the weekends due to often having a line out the door. I have not had a wide variety of items here, but as someone who is not a fan of breakfast I will definitely be back. The things I have tried include the potato pancakes(not really pancakes), the shrimp and grits and the harbor sauté(shrimp and grits on steroids) and a greek burger once. Everything I have had has been really delicious. If you go when they are busy expect to wait in line. The line moves fast because it is a good sized location. The service is friendly and pleasant. If you order to go in the middle of the week then your food will be ready promptly. My only complainant is that they have you add the tip before they ring you up. They ask if you would like to leave a tip and I’ve caught myself leaving a tip on to go orders and that is something I really don’t believe in. I know many former servers are up in arms at reading that. The interior can be summed in up 2 words, Clean Diner. I don’t know how else to describe it. The only bad reviews I see are years out of date. If you live in the area… go here. End of story.

It’s hard to beat for breakfast. Large portions, great food. Daily specials are always interesting combinations. Basically the southern take on a classic diner. This is my go to breakfast spot!

When you enter, you walk into a ma and pop diner-like atmosphere with sage and garden hose green as the predominant colors. There are booths and tables for seating, and you sit wherever you like. The staff is friendly, and dressed very casual, and you pay your ticket at the front counter when you’re finished with your meal. I had the Seaside Omelette, with cheddar instead of American, add mushrooms. I chose grits and a biscuit as my sides. What I didn’t like about my biscuit was that they put the open faces on the grill for a few seconds. I prefer soft biscuits. On to the main event: The egg that cocoons the contents is cooked impossibly thin, and somehow they keep it from splitting. The seasonings they use for the contents are a perfect hint of spicy(the amount of heat in a medium heat salsa), with almost a Cajun taste. The scallops, shrimp and crab are fresh and tender and not fishy smelling or rubbery. Trust me, don’t ruin this dish by not changing the American cheese to another cheese of choice. I also love honey in my grits… Try it!

I have enjoyed eating at this diner-type establishment at least a dozen times. I’ve been with at least 2 to 4 guest and our orders are always fast, fresh, hot, good value and delicious. Great variety of local faces and Bear-E signature stuff. The Montréal omelette is awesome! Always super fun, friendly and team oriented staff who are genuinely interested in making the customer smile and feel that family atmosphere. Prolly some of THEE best in all my Chucktown dining experiences actually. Gets very busy near noon hour, very limited parking on busy corner. Take out after lunch so expect a big line up coming in to pick up. Place can be a bit dirty/untidy after the big lunch rush. Well lit, open décor, lots of comfy benches by the windows and diner tables that can be a bit on the small side if seating 4. Deserts are reDONCulously good.

Went to this diner the other day, and it was a pleasant experience! It wasn’t the best I’ve ever eaten, but it was good. I can imagine myself going back there for a predictable menu item and getting consistent, delicious results each time. I would recommend their potato salad(tastes like Halo’s if you’ve ever been there) and their pecan pie. Both were awesome!
