Very cute little building as a location. Parking is a problem, though. Is this really French fare? I don’t think so. The choices are limited but we can easily live with that, for a good meal. But the salad that night«Frisée» was bitter and accompanied by a rather nondescript oil mix salad dressing. The Swordfish as a main course was our popular choice. And it was cooked and prepared well. But the portion was basically a medallion that would easily fit in the palm of your hand. So, as a «date» night, sure. But we expected much more from the food according to the reviews. Long on «cute» short on substance. We had to stop for take out on the way home.

Can it get any better? Why yes, it can, because it changes everyday. Something i forgot to mention in my previous review is that they do not have liquor. Do not let that deter u though. The food is so unexpectedly delicious and the service top notch. Its pricey but on par with mist downtown restaurants. Had a melon, prosciutto, mint and tomato salad. sound weird? Not at all! Couldn’t believe i liked mint in that mixture. Duck breast and grouper(although i think it was not grouper) were to die fir. I think i could eat here every day and not get bored. Forget where ever you r thinking about going and go here!

Really loved our dinner visit — a short walk from the Hyatt hotel on a beautiful spring evening. There is o shortage of terrific restaurants in town, but this one should be on your list. Every seat in the house(literally) upstairs and downstairs was full, so we were seated at the huge communal table outside. The house is rustic and charming, seemingly transporting you to the French countryside. The staff could not be more pleasant and we really had fun with our server. The view on a full moon night was stunning — candle lit table, a huge tree fronting the moon, and my lovely bride — doesn’t get better than that! The menu(lunch and dinner) changes each day, so no sense in touting any one dish(pic of our menu posted) but we wound up eating some of everything and all was most excellent! The menu is a three course affair, and consists of a choice between one of two appetizers, one of two entrees and one of two desserts. So really picky eaters should probably skip this, but you would be missing out for sure! We brought our own wines and paid a reasonable corkage. Loved it!

By far my favorite restaurant in Charleston. The owners are so sweet, and the staff is very professional and make you feel right at home. Not to mention the food is always mouth watering.

Answering a question to an out of town diner on their way to visit my beloved city for the first time prompted me to review Chez Nous, an overwhelmingly romantic establishment run by the Panella family of Bin 152. Bin 152 is a darling French wine/cheese/charcuterie/homemade bread bar, also part art/antiques gallery on upper King, which I adore, and so when I heard that Parisian-born Fanny Panella, along with her husband, renovated a historic single-family home in the Cannonborough neighborhood which was then transformed into an intimate French bistro, I could hardly wait to taste the classic French fare sourced from the bounty of the lowcountry via the talents of Chef Jill Mathias. The exposed brick and wide-plank wooden floors are reminiscent of an old French farmhouse, an appropriate feel for this place, which translates to «our house.» The menu changes with the availability of ingredients, and so this restaurant certainly emphasizes flavor and freshness, usually served within a beautiful Le Creuset dish. And with only a couple options for each course, you feel like you’re dining at a friend’s chic rustic dinner party. This would be a great place for a beautiful date night, Mel, to answer your question officially :-)

Imagine the ingredients for a top grade foodie experience: start with a tiny, intimate space, pretty far of the beaten path from tourist hordes, add in a hand-written single page menu that is seasonal and crafted daily, and then make sure to finish it off with a product that delivers on both flavor and skill. Welcome to Chez Nous. Whether you sit outside in the courtyard, or inside this tiny 2-story house, there really is not a bad seat in the house. Go after dark for a romantic setting: the glow of the candlelight and the dark wood is really top notch. Or, sit at the long community table in the courtyard for a more social experience. In either place, a bottle of wine from the well-curated wine list should be mandatory. The food is very French(pro tip: read the second line of each dish on the menu for the English version) but always well executed. Just 2 starters, 2 mains and then 2 desserts. I’ve never been disappointed even if the small menu forced me to try something out of my comfort zone. And perhaps that is the true magic of this place– creating great plates that win over the palette no matter what the base ingredients may be. Truly, the whole is more than a sum of the parts. Très bon!

Let’s be honest — Chez Nous does not need my review. It’s good, it knows it’s good, and apparently so does everyone else who has eaten here. That being said, I’m throwing my $ 0.02 into the bucket of change. Food, atmosphere, wine list are all amazing, hands-down. Some of the best food I’ve eaten in Charleston or elsewhere. The menu changes daily, so a review of what we had isn’t really all that helpful, aside to say that everything was prepared fresh, paired excellently, and obviously was made with attention to detail and care. I could not ask for more. The atmosphere really sets it apart from other eateries. Small, intimate, it is immediately apparent that Chez Nous is set in a converted historic home, with little touches of French bistro décor for accents. Very well-done, feels intimate and social all the the same time.

Wine is over priced! Do yourself a favor and have a cocktail before you come. Or go out after for an after dinner cocktail. Food was great. Everything cooked perfectly. Staff was very attentive without being over bearing. Cute place! Tables are close together which makes conversation difficult but still very nice place. Worth trying!

I am blown away by the food here! I am a very simple eater, generally shying away from anything that seems too«fancy». My friends brought me here after they raved and raved about it. We had one of everything on the menu and split it between the three of us. Not a single dish disappointed us! Never had mussels before… loved them here. Never had a mushroom salad before… absolutely delicious. The dishes are savory and portions are plentiful. Never had a meal so satisfying!

This is a true hidden gem in every sense. If someone doesn’t point you here, you’ll never see it and you’ll never find. Trust me though — it’s worth every second of the 15 min walk from the historic district and Calhoun Square. Owned by a French couple, a quaint little romantic hideaway where the menu changes every single day. The food was INCREDIBLE. Michelin star quality and BEYOND. You won’t be disappointed.

This is an absolute gem. Possibly my favorite restaurant in the world. Located in a little back alley, in a charming little house. There’s outdoor seating, rustic interiors and my favorite, a little patio table for two. The menu changes daily and is a choice of 2 starters, 2 mains and 2 desserts. It’s all very french rustic cooking, and utterly delicious. The staff is wonderful. I particularly like their wine-list, have had a nice Sancerre and a fantastic Albarino the times I’ve been. My favorite item that I’ve had there was the foie gras crème brûlée. Also, last time I had the pork rillettes with their delicious bread. Everything about this place is wonderful. Excellent ingredients, prepared well in a beautiful location. Stunning.

Literally stumbled on this hidden, little gem while walking the dog at 10PM during a visit to Charleston. Stopped and had a glass of most excellent wine sitting on the porch with the pooch. First of all, the atmosphere is charming. A tiny, very old house with outdoor seating in an enclosed courtyard, tucked in an alley way. Complete with glowing gas lights. Went back the next day for brunch the next day. The egg dishes were excellent, farm fresh eggs served perfectly cooked. My son had a lamb ragu over polenta that was as good as it comes. Service was friendly, relaxed and well informed. Will go back for dinner the next time we are in town.

I am obsessed! This place was on my list of must go to. We saved it for the very last place so we could go all out. It’s hidden down an ally which makes it so much fun to go to, especially while you’re on vacation dreaming. We went for lunch so it wasn’t busy. We were seated upstairs and our server was awesome. This place hand writes their menu everyday. Never the same menu! We ended up eating pork loin with celeriac purée and galric sauce and flounder with mussel and cider sauce. We got a salad before and pear cake after. Everything was delicious! We will go back the next time we’re in Charleston! (To the servers or to the cooks! If you serve a dish with nuts please have it listed or communicate it! My husband was allergic to one of our dishes. His allergies aren’t sever, if they were we would have been in trouble!)

Charleston is quickly becoming a foody city. Chez Nous is a nice little restaurant tucked away in an alley out of the way. If you aren’t careful you could miss it. They change there menu every day and offer 3 courses with two or three items for each course. They will post the menu every Menu on Instagram Facebook and Twitter. The items are simple yet elegant and delicious. They don’t take reservations so you may have to wait but you won’t be disappointed. The staff is super friendly and welcoming. A must visit if you are in Charleston.

Strange location — middle of no where. Keep walking, yes it’s a little bit further, a little further, then around the corner… then almost like the secret house standing in the dark. :) Excellent service, excellent food. They have a small menu but you won’t need a lot of choice. The chef handwrites each menu and will select some gems. Make a reservation.

Three of us went last night to celebrate lots of exciting things happening in our lives. We started by having a glass of wine at the bar. We asked our bartender lots of questions about her favorite wines and tried her suggestions, a Rose and a Gamay; and then took her suggestion to have a 2010 St. Joseph with dinner. Rebecca was our waitress for dinner and she was amazing. She was patient and courteous, there when we needed her and left us alone when we didn’t. We all had the head on shrimp for an appetizer. The shrimp was served over braised fennel which was amazing, very well balanced and delicate flavors created a rather complex dish. For our main dish we all had the steak frites, which was perfect. The fries were crispy and creamy at the same time. The steak was beefy and tender and topped with Bearnaise sauce. I could cover everything in Bearnaise sauce. Our wine selection was pretty amazing with both the beef and the shrimp. Desert was Les Canalés de Bordeaux and a glass of champagne. Everything was simply perfect. Understated, elegant, and personal. This is definitely going on my always go back to list.

I am calling on anyone who gives this place anything less than 5-stars to step down from their position as a Unilocaler, immediately. Straight up, you are a hater if you have anything negative to say about this hidden gem. If this isn’t a 5-star experience, nothing will be. Do the world a favor and stay home from now on, sparing society from your misery.

As a brief visitor to Charleston, I sought to make the best of the city’s dining choices. Even without having tried many places in my short stay, I can undoubtedly claim that Chez Nous must rank in the top tier. We enjoyed a thorough sampling of the brunch menu on a Sunday. It began with the bread basket and a homemade lavender blueberry jam, whose aroma heralded freshness and happiness. The quiche slice, though small for the price, was tasteful. My blue ribbon goes to the pasta, a healthy mound of al dente fettuccine bathing in a rich sauce of fresh tomatoes and other embellishments. The staff is amiable, accommodating and lively, all imbued with distinct professionalism and responsibility. I highly recommend Chez Nous to anyone with an appreciation for a fine culinary experience.
