Had brunch here before our cruise. They were packed and estimated a 20 minute wait but it was much shorter than that! Friendly service, fantastic mimosas and breakfast!

This place was good, but not as good as people were making it out to be. We stayed in the hotel right next to it so we had to try it out. I had the French Toast which isn’t traditional French Toast, but it was good. Nothing about the place blew me away though. However, our waiter was great.

Good breakfast. Poached eggs over crabcake and fried green tomatoes, more fried green tomatoes served with shrimp and grits. Nothing fancy here. Heavy hearty meals to fill ya up. Kids had french toast and pancakes that were both good.

Super duper yummy!!! The honey infused bourbon is ridiculously yummy. The coffee is awesome. The biscuits and gravy are crazy good. The French toast is amazing. The only blah item was the grits. Disappointing for such a yummy yummy place !

Saw this place featured in The New York Times as a «must eat at» place in Charleston, so we had to check it out! The place is definitely lovely. The staff is friendly and accommodating. They are family friendly, and had plenty of high chairs for wee ones and crayons, etc for the slightly older kids. The food is great and the servings are huge. Definitely try one of the home made biscuits! They are HUGE and perfectly fluffy and delicious! The coffee is excellent and they’ll refill as much as you want, and even will give you a to-go cup to take a cup for the road. If you’re into drinking before noon, they have a mimosa special: $ 14 for a carafe of mimosas.

Two minute walk from the Double Tree Hilton and worth every second of your time. Great service, Breakfast served all day and one spot that goes on the must return to list. Our pre cruise Breakfast was so good that my teenage step disagree asked to return for a post cruise breakfast!

First dinner in Charleston was completely lack-luster; we arrived in the city just a few hours early, walked around planning to take our chances for dinner. The review here were 3.5, the menu is basic and only 3 tables were occupied. Despite being nearly empty we were made to wait for a table and then for menus. The service was pleasant enough but the food was extremely slow to come and a very mixed bag. The fried catfish was done to perfection but the accompanying rice seemed to have been under a hot lamp for a while. The grits also were good as was the pork chop. The ribeye steak was very fatty. Overall, it’s hard to see how this place merits any better than«meh»

Loved the breakfast here. I had the Eggs Meeting Street which is a fried green tomato topped with a crab cake, poached egg and Lowcountry remoulade sauce. It was excellent. The combination of flavors were just right. The biscuit and grits that came with it were really good also. We had sampled other biscuits around Charleston and Savannah and these were the best. The service was awesome also. The place itself is a little tight but well worth the wait.

I thing this is a solid dining option in Charleston. I have been here now twice and the service has been great both times. I know this place can get really busy during certain hours so plan ahead. I had the shrimp and grits both times and I thought is was delicious. The grits had a gravy on top and bell peppers. I also really enjoyed their cornbread(muffin?) that they gave us. I would recommend this place to anyone in town.

First thing is first, I was devastated to find that Charleston banned bottomless mimosas so those no longer exist. Instead, they serve carafes of mimosas for about the same price but it just isn’t the same.(Bloody Mary looks awesome here!) Second thing is second, if you don’t have a ton of time go somewhere else; there is always a line here and sometimes they aren’t very quick about getting you out of line. Two out of three times their ordering wasn’t linear either… Anyway, once you’re in they are pretty quick to get your food out. I’ve been to Toast a few times, this was the first time post bottomless mimosas and it really gave the food more of an influence on how breakfast went and I was not disappointed. I always order the corn beef hash when I go out for breakfast and this was pretty good! It may have been a tad too salty for my liking but it was tasty and delicious otherwise. The home fries are always very good. The biscuit gets it’s own paragraph. The breakfast menu is extensive, tons of options, with a few that are quite different than your run of the mill breakfast. I would ignore all of it and get a half dozen biscuits with jam. MY. GOD. I didn’t know such items could be so savory. They are dense, but not too dense and buttery enough to be a little salty. I would go on but I’ve already been reprimanded by the group I was with for going on about how heavenly those biscuits were. I want one now. Others ordered the french toast which was deliciously created with a giant piece of bread instead of your usual sliced bread. Also ordered was the fried green tomato breakfast thingamabober — it looked amazing and was not shared so it must have been good. Definitely a tourist staple to try out while you’re in town. If you’re from a place where biscuits aren’t good make sure you swing by here — best biscuit I’ve had in my four years South Carolina dining.

Great service. I loved the fried green tomatoes and the she crab soup. A lot of shells in my crab cake which I was alright with… that means they use real crabs! The home fries were disappointing because they were so average and flavorless… The chef salad was delicious with grapes, blue cheese, walnuts, and a special dressing. I really enjoyed it. Cute seating and super friendly staff!

Toast of Charleston is about as flat-line average as they come. Toast is talked up something serious, but that in mind, I still wasnt even looking to for anything remarkable. As a breakfast for lunch and dinner expert, I just wanted something simple and flavorful – didnt really get either of those things. My gf and I walk in and there are I believe 2 tables in house, so this will be the relatively quick lunch we were seeking out. When we arrive, I go to check in on Unilocal, and there is a 10% off check in offer for orders over $ 10. There is no way this is the first time this staff has seen this offer. There is no way. with as many reviews of this place that are on Unilocal – uh uh. She is not sure what to make of the check in offer, so she leaves and a few minutes later brings a manager back with her. Odd, but she is scanning and pushing things on my phone to check the validity maybe(?) and after some analysis says«ok», and takes off. Not sure if they were looking for some code or something, but either way, come on – they have to know that is on Unilocal. I order the multi-featured Eggs Meeting Street – Fried green tomato atop a crab cake with«Lowcountry remoulade sauce», grits and a biscuit. 35 minutes and 2 parties later – no food. Our waitress comes to us and says our food was delayed because the group that came in after us – I think there were 6⁄7 of them, there food was pushed ahead of ours somehow. Sorry about that, how about some dessert? –Alright, not really feeling dessert, but thank you for the gesture. Now were at 40 minutes– Another person comes to our table and leans in to our table. «We are out of regular grits, but we have cheese grits. Are cheese grits ok? We wont charge you extra!» Sure thing, and why would you charge us? 45 minutes and finally the food comes. The batter for the FGT(do people say FGT).anyway, it was really thick and hard. You really had to put your fork in it to get through the batter and to the tomato. Bummer. The remoulade was non-existent in flavor, and that could have really made the meal, but not to be. And that ginormous biscuit, though it is ginormous(fun word) is not the hearty, meaty, thick but a little fluffy Southern biscuit I was expecting. Would I recommend Toast – No. There are too many phenomenal bfast joints all over Charleston to count. So my advice for those looking for breakfast/brunch downtown – skip following the crowd, skip Toast.

We stopped by on Oct. 3 as the rain was pummeling Charleston. We were surprised to hear that the restaurant was open, and there were buckets all over the lobby to catch water leaking from the ceiling. But we were placed in a section that was dry and free of buckets. Food-wise, the place was quite good. The biscuits are huge, but fluffy and soft on the inside and eating one doesn’t leave you feeling like you have a brick in your stomach. Everyone in my party enjoyed their meals. The only quibble we had occurred when the bill arrived. With three couples, we sought to split the bill three ways, and a friend wanted to use the 10 percent off coupon via Unilocal. The waitress said she could only credit us the coupon on one bill if we split it three ways. So another friend had to pay for the whole bill with his credit card to use the coupon. Seemed counterproductive and silly to us.

I can’t recommend this place for dinner. While they do have a full liquor bar, the menu is small and uninspired, as is the food that you’re served. My wife had shrimp & grits, which was more like shrimp buried in grits that you then go on a hunt to find. I had the pork chops; lightly breaded, tasted like something I’m capable of cooking at home. They were accompanied by asparagus which was probably the best part of the meal, and potato salad that tasted store bought. My wife asked if she could get the shrimp & grits without the sausage that was mentioned on the menu. That was not possible, which means basically they cook it all up in huge amounts in advance, not at the time of your order. The alcohol drinks are expensive; i.e. $ 8 for a house wine from a bottle you could likely purchase in the $ 13-$ 15 range at the store. Décor is not trendy or fashionable like many of Charleston’s downtown restaurants. It’s kind of a late 80’s early 90’s hodgepodge of items; that old amber floor tile like you’d find in a Waffle House that hasn’t been remodeled, «vintage» Campari wine posters on the walls, except in this case they were probably hung there on the first go-round and have made it to vintage status, vinyl booths that show their age, dusty ceiling tiles, etc. I’ve heard people say it’s good for breakfast, but after dinner I didn’t have much desire to try it when there’s excellent places close by like Poogans Porch or Lowcountry Bistro.

The other half and I finally had a Saturday together without work or our child, so we thought we’d celebrate with brunch! Well, if 1pm is still considered brunch… I’d heard mixed reviews, but we figured we’d venture to Toast anyway. For a beautiful, summer Saturday at noon-ish, the wait was only about 15 minutes. We could have sat sooner but we didn’t want to sit at the bar. Our server came over for our drink order pretty quickly, and was pretty attentive with refills(though he kept bringing unsweetened tea, not sweet). We asked for straws a few times and never got them. I hate drinking from the rim of glasses in a restaurant, so that really bugged me. We eventually decided on the Eggs Meeting Street(double) and the peach stuffed french toast(single) and shared them. The french toast is more like a chunk of a loaf with some sauce and peach slices. It wasn’t BAD, but it also wasn’t really a french toast. And it was kind of hard. But the peach flavor was nice. The kitchen split the Eggs Meeting Street onto two plates without us even asking, which was nice. Home fries are great, but I’m a sucker for a fried potato. I had high hopes for the biscuit, but mine was really hard and dry. Overall, the egg-crab-tomato was pretty blah. When you take a bite of them all together, nothing stands out and the egg was poorly cooked. *Disclaimer– I am from Maryland, the home of all things crab. We don’t believe in filler in our crab cakes, so I’m biased.* Overall, the portions are big, but the service and food quality are meh.

I have went down to South Carolina, Charleston for a Bachelorette weekend, our first day there we went to this brunch place. The place was poppin’ and had to wait for about 30 min. many people recommended this place and so we had to try this out. The place was old little fashioned and small but very cute inside. I had ordered The Eggs Meeting Street with their home fries and biscuit. It’s a eggs Benedict: a poached egg with a crab cake underneath, drizzled with sauce. They also serve bottomless mimosas for $ 14, but they had a better offer as well, $ 10 craft size mimosas that serves about 4 – 5 servings. It’s one way to start off a morning with a lil tipsy, lol. You get your alcohol and breakfast juice all in one sitting. Lolol! Overall, I recommend this place highly especially for tourist like me.

What can I say?! This place is certainly entertaining. Our waitress was wearing pajama pants! And, the whole staff were wearing strange costume hats. The wait is outrageous. The food is mediocre. And, the times they give people for eating is completely random. I literally heard one girl on the phone tell someone the wait time was 45 minutes but the other lady RIGHTBESIDEOFHER told people who walked in the wait time was 25 minutes.(By the way, they told everyone 25 minutes for waiting, but that was not even close). Thy have an in-your-face lady who yells out names for the people who have scored a seat, she is no joke. The food… My eggs were undercooked(scrambled). My bacon was overcooked(burnt). My French toast was okay, but it was very hard to eat due to its thickness. The orange juice was FROMCONCENTRATE, gag. Please, don’t insult me with that artificial diluted acid wash, give me the REALSTUFF. The sweet tea was actually right on point. Be prepared to wait for checkout too. It is like they forget you exist after two people just ordered 60 dollars of breakfast food and need to make a few laps around the block to let the food settle. Yikes. I’d probably go back, but I feel like this is more of a tourist trap and not a place locals really frequent.
