Best Chinese food in Charlestown!!! Oh wait, it’s the only Chinese in Charlestown. If you get a hankering for some greasy and delicious Chinese food, or just are lazy like myself and don’t want to leave Town to get food, Speedy Chen’s is the spot. While I can’t attest to the delivery times, the takeout I’ve gotten has been pretty on point. Like I mentioned before, it’s pretty greasy, but for Chinese food that’s pretty par for the course. While you’ll end up spending middle to upper teens for a meal, the portion sizes are legit. Sometimes I have enough to get me through lunch the next day, which isn’t a common occurrence for me. Even better, the people working there seem to be super nice and it only takes a few times before they recognize you when you stroll in. Check it out if you haven’t yet, maybe you’ll see me there!

Super greasy Chinese food, but the only option in Charlestown. The one good about this place is that the food is cheap(they serve half portions) and they make it fast. You get what you pay for here. Cheap prices and cheap quality food. Not the worst when you want some grease!!!

If you want decent Chinese please order from Somerville. Yes they deliver to Charlestown. I was so disappointed when my food arrived. A plate full of rice and barely meat and sauce. Chicken wing nd crab Rangoon was barely cooked!

I wanted something quick and convenient on my short walk home from yoga.(My roommate and I were too damn lazy to cook or go anywhere proper.) Overall, it’s decent take out. The food was lacking in flavor(we had to add a lot of soy sauce), but it tasted good quality, so that made up for it. Good: beef & broccoli, chicken & string beans, veggies, and rice of course No good: the egg roll — not sure what it was filled with, but it certainly wasn’t the meat/veg combo I’m used to

Relatively low-quality but a ton of food for the price. Delivery is reliable and quick and the online ordering system is relatively painless. Definitely a solid spot for cheap take-out

Not good. Delivery is quick but they forgot my soup and told me I would need to come get it if I wanted it. When I got the beef lo mein next time there was legitimately 3 small pieces of beef in a large order. I will be finding a new Chinese restaurant for my Sunday food binges from now on.

The only thing I’ve ever gotten here are the lunch combos, which are a steal. Large entrée portion plus fried rice and small portions of two appetizers, all for under $ 7. One of these would easily feed two people, which explains why I hate myself so much when I devour the entire meal myself! The food itself is not the best chinese food I’ve ever had, but it is tasty and fresh. I’d give it 3.5 stars if that were an option but the value component pushes it to a 4 for me.

The best place about this place, minus the good food, is how quick they are with delivery! They are the easiest take out place I have ever ordered from and are very friendly.

Pretty okay. I tried it since it’s right near school. I just got a meal with rice, chicken fingers and spareribs. It was all good but not great. However, there was a lot of food. I could make two meals out of what I was given and probably still have some rice left over. I will definitely go there again.

Ordered some take out for a mini Chinese New Year luncheon with my colleagues. Easy to use website and I like that they send you an order confirmation with the receipt in PDF format. Delivery time lives up to its name«speedy». We’re located on the same street but we’re at the very end. We requested a delivery at 12:15pm. The delivery guy was here right on the dot. My colleagues loved the food, especially the vegetable chow mein and sweet and sour pork. Personally liked the fried rice the most and as a Chinese-American, I am picky about how it’s done. I wouldn’t say it’s the best fried rice I’ve had from a take-out place but it’s good enough for my taste buds. I will be ordering from them again if our office ever craves Chinese food.

OK Takeout Definitely not great Chinese food. I’ve been to China and lived in Hong Kong for some time. And this is super Americanized dumbed down food for people who don’t know real Chinese food. You probably wouldn’t want to eat the real thing with lots of intestine dishes, pigs blood soup, jellied ducks feet, and enough hot peppers to blow your head off. So for people who have no idea what real Chinese food tastes like it’s fine. Authentic Chinese food is in Chinatown for those in the know. I’m still trying to figure out which Boston housewife invented crab rangoon filled with Philadelphia cream cheese. Does anyone really think that this is something people eat in China? Get real Boston. If you think Olive garden is what Italian food is really like, then you will have the ability to consume this food as well, oblivious to the fact that it’s American food made to look slightly Chinese.

Great food. I have ordered like 5 times since they re-opened. And I noticed everytime I have ordered they keep improving on the taste, like the food gets prepared better every time as the orders go by.

Great food. Fast delivery. Good prices. It’s not as good as Chinatown, or some other places may be, but it’s good for Chinese delivery food.

The important thing to take into account is this review is for the average person looking for average Chinese food. The portions are big and the food is hot and ready. The freshness is better than most places with yellow and red restaurant signs. If you are looking for a level of quality like Bamboo this is the wrong place.

4 stars if you want good, standard and cheap Americanized Chinese. 3 stars final verdict but you’re unlikely to be disappointed. It is what it is. Nothing is spectacular but rarely disappointing and the price is right. Fresh veggies are always well cooked and flavorful — the strength of Speedy’s, for sure. I will usually order only dishes with an assortment of veg and the chicken or beef with broccoli(asked for mix veg. instead!) is probably the best value here. Mongolian Beef is great — tried at the recommendation of the owner. Kung Pao and other non general tso’s/orange/sesame meat dishes are your best bet. Fried meats tend to be overly bread-y but not always. Chicken fingers and scallion pancakes are very hit or miss, which is unfortunate because these are both popular with many diners. Noodles can be over-sauced and lack veggies but hit the spot. Service is always above average and food arrives promptly. Very nice family.
