Carmel Commons has been on Hwy 51 at Carmel Rd for years. It’s probably one of Charlotte’s older shopping centers. The center was starting to show its age with its brick façade but all that is changing now. The center is going through a renovation that looks to be about 50% complete. They are removing the covered walkway portion so that you can see the front windows of each store. The new façade is white and windows have shade awnings. Everything looks a lot brighter. There is a wide variety of stores in this center including The Fresh Market, Party City, Rite Aid, Radio Shack and GNC to name a few. Restaurants include Bangkok Ocha, Flip’n Chicken, Chuck E Cheese, a mexican place and more. And there are a few pad sites that include McDonalds, Jack in the Box, Exxon, and BB&T. The parking lot is configured a little odd. All parking aisles go both directions. You drive one way but you park angled on the opposite side of the aisle(if you park frontways like a normal person). yeah and people drive to fast in the parking lot. But oh well, that’s common all over in Charlotte.
