Intimate venue. We came on a night that was standing room general admission. They also had a few rows of chairs in the back where were greatly appreciated since I wore the wrong shoes.

To begin with, parking here is atrocious. Second of all I had my all that remains tickets pulled up on ticket master to be scanned and the ticket lady that was suppose to scan my ticket told me that my order number was not on the«list». Ridiculous, because I had the receipt email and the tickets right in front of their face. Third, here was a surcharge on the 21 and under age and I had already paid that with my initial ticket purchase. Mind you, I was being very calm about the whole situation and she was not listening to a word I was saying, basically telling me I was wrong. So that was just terrible and not the way tickets should be handled. Obviously no one told her how to function the ticket booth because I’ve never had this kind of problem. If I could rate this zero stars I surely would. My experience was terrible and I’m never coming back and I’m sure not losing any sleep about that decision.

I enjoy this venue for live music shows and smaller concerts. Usually they have standing room only but the last show I went to had seats set up. The parking is the only drawback since its NoDa so we used Über. The concert was awesome and we enjoyed the music! The bar noise bothered the performer so he stopped playing to ask the people to be respectful. I think the mixed drink I had was kinda weak, but the bf liked his local beer.

The band was great, but venue not so much. It’s really a bar more so than a place to hear good music — altho it’s not advertised that way. We had great, reserved, balcony seats with good view of the stage. The bar is located downstairs to the side, and the noise was so loud from the bar it was hard to hear the band at times. I felt very bad for the band because they were excellent — a well known band that is not a «bar band». If you want to go out to a bar with live music, it’s probably okay. Don’t waste money on tickets for a good band. I’ve seen this exact band at The Orange Peel(AVL) and White Horse(Blk Mtn) — both have bars — and the patrons at the other places wanted to hear and groove to the music. Not so at Neighborhood Theater — it’s just another bar.

Under the new management, this venue misuses the term«general admission». General admission seating means seating, not standing. Our tickets stated general admission but there were no seats. In this case, the website and tickets should state«No general admission seating — standing only.» We’ve been to several«general admission» concerts recently and always had seats. If not, they didn’t call it general admission. Watch out for Neighborhood Theatre. We enjoyed it before the new management, but won’t return.

Went to see The Weepies on Saturday, June 20. Paid extra for Gold Circle section — rows 1 – 8 with the understanding that when the doors opened at 7pm I could pick my 2 seats from the ones not already taken in those rows. Instead they had placed signs on the chairs with names on them assigning the seats(no idea how that was decided) and I was given seats in row 9. When I questioned them how I was not even in rows 1 – 8 they gave me a lame answer about side seats being removed. There were large open spaces on the sides for people to stand who paid a lot less but actually were in a better position. We even saw people on our row find 2 chairs from somewhere & put them on the end of our row. I read others complaints of this on the Facebook page. Clearly they don’t know what they’re doing & it’s a good way to hurt their business.

Really cool venue for live shows! The dive bar of concert halls! Recently saw Lake Street Dive! Wow! Standing room only, but who cares when you can reach out and touch the band! Yes, some shows have reserved seating in the balcony. Eclectic mix of shows from Juliana Hatfield to Kate Tempest! And the price is right! Way cheaper than going to a Ticketmaster venue!!! Plenty of places to hang out before and after a show too! Will definitely be back to see another concert!

They don’t have seats. Well duh, it’s a music venue. Silly rabbit. Neighborhood Theatre does it all. A venue that brings in solid music, hosts great events, and supports local everything. My best friend threw a fantastic birthday bash for her boyfriend here last Summer. This past weekend, I actually attended a wedding and reception. I wasn’t really sure what to expect, but it was really nice. And yes, there were chairs for that. It’s not fancy. It kind of has a dive-type feel to it. The walls usually have pieces from local artists. The sign out front is an old school marquee. I love it all. More importantly, it’s a place that really fits in the NoDa community. Full bar, including local bars that does take credit cards. They lost their parking lot to a apt/condo project. I recommend looking on Yadkin for parking. Just make sure you don’t block any driveways. There are so many great pre and post-event places here. You really can’t go wrong with any of them. If you need some after show grub, Jack Beagles does a late night menu. Great place to soak up all those concert beverages. Kudos to Alex and the crew here who work hard to make this place what it is.

The worst live music venue that I have ever been to. They bring in good acts — which is too bad — as they are clearly managing the place to go out of business. We had paid premium for balcony seats this week to see Lake Street Dive. The band was prenominal — but the Theatre was not air conditioned and the temperature had to be over 100 degrees in the balcony and well over 90 down on the floor. The band commented that it was the hottest place they ever played. There are many tripping hazards on the floor that are painted black and not lit — the place is a real hole in the ground and nothing is being done to change it(they even ran out of bottled water). The bouncer told me they have been operating without AC for awhile. Don’t bother going… they don’t care about comfort or safety — they should be shut down.

No AC!!! It was horrible for the amount of people that were there with no AC and about 300 people crammed into this place with only a ceiling fan for ventilation. Even the lead singer commented on how hot it was. I won’t go there again for any event!!!

Can anyone say«Dive Bar and local music venue?» Welcome to the ‘Hood Theater! As other have mentioned, while the building’s exterior is the same as it ever was, the inside has been gutted down to a standing room only crowd. For a live music show, however, this isn’t a huge loss. The bar offers a number of both local brews and hard alcohol, so get your Jack and Coke on now and oh, but the way, they take plastic now too. Loss of character? Some might say, but it’s a sign of the times and this is one area I am pleased to see some progress within. Luckily the inside still has something of a lost-time nostalgia to it, with the Marquee sign out front and the general feel of the space inside– well worn and just a bit tattered. This venue not only hosts plenty of live music, but you have to give them props for supporting the neighborhood and local artists with craft and art fairs, a local church on Sunday, and other community events that need a solid venue space with a stage. It’s got character and heart y’all, and that wins out over new and shiny in my book every time.

I am glad that Neighborhood Theatre was saved from destruction. However, the building still stands, but it was destroyed from the inside. This venue used to have rows of seats on its sloping floors, plus seats to the side. No more. This place has been gutted to standing room only. With the exception of a balcony, and then we were told that it was reserved. Looking up, we only saw eight people there. They have this smancy-fancy new bar, with fancier drink prices. I was pleased with the old setup, which was two makeshift drink areas with affordable prices. I will choose Amos’, The Visualite or The Chop Shop for my entertainment needs.

Very disappointed. They no longer have shows in the big theatre where the big stage is. Instead, bands perform in a large space adjacent to the large and torn down theatre. There’s a bar where you can buy overpriced drinks. Beers were $ 5. There’s no place to sit to watch the bands. Everybody stands. The men’s bathroom reeked of urine. The current management doesn’t get it. People heartily supported this place when the big theater was in operation. We drove from 45 miles away and were utterly disappointed. The acoustics in the new space are awful. The band sounded muffled. Fortunately, the Dog Bar was a block away and it was easy to comfort our disappointment with some canine friends.

We went to see a concert by a great band, Lake Street Dive, and they were fantastic. Beautiful harmonies and spectacular instrumentalists, the lead singer is destined for greatness. The venue was disappointing in that there is NOSEATING besides a tiny balcony that was sold out. Patrons are expected to stand for hours on an unlevel floor in a very hot and overcrowded room. For $ 20, you would think there would be seating.

Attended here for the Unilocal summer soire… when you first arrive the outside is a little dated but as you enter it is a huge space, large enough for private events, I really like the feel of the place and would love to come for a scheduled concert event… it is very dim in the place as well. Has a Nice size bar. Since everything was free didn’t get a feel of there bar to be able to get an accurate review. Overall the place is very inviting and clean. Would love to plan an event here soon.

This is a Charlotte favorite. I have always been in conflict with the drunken, sticky floors on Saturday night and church on Sunday. If anyone has been there recently they have noticed the changes. They are good. The bar is nicer and there are 2 stages now Please keep doing the Noda arts/crafts fairs.

This place is dramatically better inside since they fixed it up. The once dinky bar counter is now a full on bar with plenty of seating and selection. Various types or art adorns the wall, though it’s a little dark to fully appreciate some of it. The lighting is appropriate for everything else though. They didn’t really change the stage area. There is still a giant stage with tons of space in front of it and plenty of dancing and sitting room. There is one new thing in the stage room. You can access a section of the bar now, which is awesome. The is one let down. I’m not sure if they are fixing it up or it’s just been closed but you can no longer get up on the balcony, which used to be one of my favorite places to relax. Hopefully they have it open again. But all and all, I love what they did with the place.

Music is an integral part of my life. If I don’t go to at least 2 concerts every month I start to go through withdrawals. I’m a much bigger fan of smaller venues than massive sized arenas. When the venue is smaller the entire concert experience is enhanced because it’s more intimate and you’re closer to the artist. Neighborhood Theatre can seat a few hundred with mezzanine seating at stage right and floor seating facing the stage. The sound is great and spot on. You can easily hear every note that is played or sung. The only drawback is that the space is a bit dated and could use a few modern touches. Other than the décor I think this place is awesome and will definitely be back for more concerts or events.
